Many couldn’t appreciate his showman persona, perceiving it as pure arrogance. This rubbed people up the wrong way, especially given his roots growing up in places like Peckham, Hackney and then the Bronx in New York being starkly contrasted by his gentrified dialect and “upper class gentry” sense of fashion. Some felt he was pretending to be something he wasn’t. He argued “being working class is no excuse for not speaking properly”.
@TheVanillatech Жыл бұрын

I like how Chris Eubanks & Nigel Benn shook hands at the end of the interview, that's what the sport is all about, RESPECT!, true, boxing is a violent sport & you're supposed to destroy your opponent, but that don't mean you have to hate your opponent, it's only a sport, recognizin' your opponent is still a man & keepin' the sport "honest", don't suckapunch your opponent behind his head, hit him wit low blows, or hit him when he's on his down to the mat, respect is da key!

Thanks for posting this.. At the time I was a massive Benn fan and wanted him to win, but since of got older ive also realised what a great man Chris Eubank is, a man of integrity, and truth. They were both fantastic warriors and a credit to Britain. James Toney was an exceptional fighter, but judging from this was a complete twat with no respect. Its nice that all the years after this that Chris and Nigel are now friends..
@Adjuah3816 жыл бұрын
Toney in those days took it seriously and was in condition and focused. He would have beaten Eubank on work rate, Benn had a punchers chance at best but I think Toney's superior boxing skills and defense would have brought him home at about the halfway stage a bit like the Benn WSatson Fight

Man, I wished these guys would have fought With James Toney, Julian Jackson and Roy Jones Jr. They would have been some historic fights. Anyone of these guys could beat each other. I couldn't say who's better. They're all some bad as fighters. Also Michael Watson and Gerald "GMan" M. Could of been in this circle if it wasn't for the tragedies. My favorite was the Gman. I believe he would of been the one to beat. His lose with Nigel Benn was do his brain blood clots. He demonstrated better boxing ability than Benn before he started showing symptoms of brain injuries. I'm not taking nothing against Benn he is a bad ass fighter. But Gman would of been the guy to beat. Just my opinion. They where all super stars.

Toney sounded punch drunk way before his boxing career was over - his potential fights with Eubank and Benn would have been too close to call. He may sound punchy but he had a very good ring IQ. However, one barometer may be to say a 40-year-old Michael McCallum held him to a draw - on the flip side Toney stopped Michael Nunn in 11 rounds; Nunn would have given both Benn and Eubank nightmares in the ring with his style, which was similar to Herol Graham who they avoided like the plague. Great lead-up to a decent fight. Thanks for uploading.

Believe it or not eubank burst into the seen with an American accent back then, Nigel was the darling in the media circle, that led to the beauty and the beast bout. Then Watson nonintensional tragedy followed eubank was never the same after that horror, sad to see James toney slewing his speech today.james toney was a hell of a fighter, only made a careless mistake with Roy Jones who walked on water in the ring 💍 . The engraved personality of eubank fits perfectly into who he was, GLADIATOR.

Eubank a class act and Toney showing no class as usual. Benn, well yes a pretty decent guy and one of the hardest punchers to ever enter a boxing ring. However, the only thing that I disliked about Benn was his propensity to hit opponents on the back of the head. He did this way to often in fights and also, on occasion, hit fighters when they were down. I am glad Eubank got the better of Benn with his win in 1990 and the draw in 1993. The only question I want answered is why they never had a third fight considering their second contest was a draw rather than another win for Eubank?
