I've seen this sort of thing before, but this demonstration was really good. Some youtubers seem to think they need to talk for 20-30 minutes. People just get bored.

Man, you taught me more about learning the box and certain things about pentatonic scale in a little over 5 minutes than I’ve learned about it all together from other places. It made more sense the way you explained it. Thanks for your help 🤜🏼🤛🏼 GOD Bless!!!

“The leader is one who, out of the clutter, brings simplicity….” - Albert Einstein. There is lots of clutter out there in guitar and in other instruction. I wish I’d have been taught what you presented here, and what you teach in your lead guitar made simple course, many years ago when I was first learning. You’ve struck a good balance in not overwhelming the beginner with too much material, moving too quickly, or leaving simple but very important concepts or techniques assumed rather than explained. I was especially impressed that in your course, you force the student to squeeze everything they can out of one note, and in the process, you teach them both to focus on the end goal of music and equip them to begin attaining that goal very quickly. You display these in this short video as well. I think the foundation you lay will help beginning musicians, and those (most?) of us with gaps in their learning, to find further instruction from you and others more understandable and beneficial. And your pleasant, enthusiastic demeanor and not-too-long videos make them simply enjoyable to watch. Keep up the good work!

My guitarist has tried to tell me this for decades, NOW I get it! The middle two strings give you the key, but I'd usually just go up and down the pentatonic from there, so for G, the high and low stuff still stay within frets 3 and 6. I never understood why you could play the highs and lows at different fret positions. I never played much lead, but I'd do an intro similar to Carol for a 12 bar in A on the B and E strings at the 5th and 8 frets, and he always told me I should play it higher up the neck, but I couldn't understand how it would still be in A if I did. Now I get it, thanks! 🙂👍

Cool pattern for learning a three octave minor pentatonic scale all the way up the neck (vs two octave in the traditional "box"). A nice end to the video might have been how to apply it in its simplest form. Like a rock chord progession starting on a certain fret for your example. You were playing a Gm pentatonic scale (key of Bb) and ended all your licks on a G (the second note in the box from the bottom). Forgetting all the lame theory there, maybe just instruction about playing the scale over a Gm chord (3rd fret barre chord), or a I - IV - V progression in Bb (first chord on the 7th fret). Just a suggestion. Still, really good lesson.

Makes perfect sense, but how do you transition from just playing the notes to shuffling around to make it sound like how you do it, lol. I tried to learn about 20 years ago, kids came along and now im trying to learn properly and its the shiny stuff that i struggle with, not the scale itself, any tips :) Love the way you explain things btw, it really makes sense.😇

As Other punters have said, Ive seen this before, but the way you started on the high octave first and not the low one like everyone else really opened my eyes to what you are doing. Also, only using four strings (DGBE) really seems to have opened up possibilities that I hadnt seen before. Very Nice lesson. ; ]

So do you have to start on the 'root' note in each box on each pair of strings?
@LearningGuitarSecrets24 күн бұрын
You don't have to start on the root but if you land there to end your phrases it's always safe😃
@timleem36092 ай бұрын
Great concept but how does this relate to a key of a song let’s say AMinor. Do you start the box on Note A on the 6th string fifth fret ?
@LearningGuitarSecretsАй бұрын
Great question👍 Did you download the book? I believe I'm playing in the key of Gm in the video. Am would be the same 2 frets higher in pitch. You just follow the alphabet. Bm would be 2 frets higher in pitch from Am. And so on. You can play exactly the same licks for each key😃
