Another point to consider is where you position affects how you aim, which affects what directions you can dodge. This is more important in older games where you typically only have 3 dodge directions after an attack, but it can matter in 5 gen some too.

This is speaking from a Dual Blade perspective; Teostra and Lunastra specifically have a safe spot right behind their right foreleg. If you jam yourself in there, their tail sweep won’t hit you, their claw swipe won’t hit you, their bite won’t hit you, and their sweeping flame breaths won’t hit you. Tenderize the foreleg and you can just go to town for a good 5-10 seconds at times. I’ve occasionally had enough time to get my entire attack combo + demon dance off multiple times before needing to back out.

I just switched to hammer and it's crazy op. I'm using it to farm as i find hammer the fastest weapon actually. What i learned is that the fastest way to beat the devil out of em is to from the start equip rocksteady mantle and brute force head break, it doesn't take long with the hammer you just tank through the dmg, having health regen is really good you odn't need to heal, i also combine it with recovery up. After head break go for wings that also breaks pretty fast. And from that point on the monster attacks are weakend and makes the whole fight trivial. The only guy that can't be brute forced is fatalis imo, for him i had to learn patterns to know where his head will end, but regen works good aswell a level 3 charge on his stomach probably regens like half my health bar, and i have 200 hp (fatalis gear)

I’m a hammer main too, i love the hammer. Head bonks do deal the most dmg, But for most elder dragons the hammer doesn’t reach the head, (unless they’re knocked over) so the front legs (and sometimes the tail like with xeno’jiva) are the spots that will do the most dmg while trying to knock them over. I always go for a tenderize on the front legs first, and tail if possible, then once it’s toppled I’ll go for a head tenderize and just start bonkin 😂 Just dont get greedy with full charges until it’s toppled or you know forsure you can get away with it Hope that helps Keep up the UngaBunga’in 👌

The thing with MH is that [skilled] playstyle is VERY varied depending on the monster. What remains the same on the most part is your weapon skillset-- learn to master the timing of when to use certain moves, where they hit, how you can improve ur fighting style. Positioning is usually based on the monster and not based on type or group of monsters. Very rare that you can approach another monster with the exact same mindset and playstyle. Same way not all weapon elements would be effective on all monsters.
@andersseedehui67583 ай бұрын
And another good reason for standing that position is a lot of weapon start its attack animation from the right(chargeblade ED2, Swaxe morph combo, hhorn golf etc), so if u stand to the monster's left side, u always hit their feet instead of head.
@yura375 ай бұрын
a few of the big bois punish pretty hard for staying left vs right of the head. off the top of my head, namiel, velkhana, the jivas, and i think vaal. they all got breath attacks that start left side meaning if you run clockwise (to the left) after they reposition youre much more likely to have a bad time than if you run counter clockwise (to the right).

i always thought that for monsters like anja and deviljho, its weird that their topple times are shorter than monsters that walk on all 4s, it just doesnt make sense logically. and as a fight mechanic, if ur going to give the hunters with short weapons such a hard time hitting the head or tail when the monster is standing up, then u should give them more time when they are down.
@yourdad57997 ай бұрын
I think that's a thing for all Brute wyverns but I'm not sure.
@painsenpai016 ай бұрын
Deviljho ain't that bad cause it has that topple animation that leads to huge damage but Anja/Fulgur Anja and Glavenus/Acidic Glavenus are trash with this not to mention Brachydios and it's constant Kelbi'n around.
@lchn123456786 ай бұрын
@@painsenpai01 i get what ur saying but most normal players wont be able to take advantage of that because u need to hit deviljho during that attack which is not easy if ur using a melee weapon, and if you are seasoned enough to take advantage of it most times, then the short topple times of 2 legged monsters wont be a big problem for you either, so i think my original point still stands, but yeah deviljho is very easy with pierce hbg
@sarbe66257 ай бұрын
SnS can hit most monster's heads really easily if you know how to actually play it. Your leaping slash that follows form a backhop has quite a bit of upward range and when it connects it further propels you upwards to well above the monster 's head. Then you can easily follow up with either a falling bash or slash depending on whether you want to apply blunt or slashing damage. And if even with that it is too high you can always use the monster's legs to do the same thing and build up to both tripping the monster aswell as using the falling slash to build up to a mount to topple the monster and doing so bring those hitzones within reach. Sword and Shield has way more range than the short blade suggests, it just requires some skill to draw out.

SnS in IB is so OP Capcom had to nerfed the damage of perfect rush. Feel like this weapon has everything, mobility, damage, speed, i-Frame, guard, 1 free mount, blunt damage, high damage, long range leap from perfect rush. Probably going to drop CB entirely and main SnS in Wilds.
@sarbe66257 ай бұрын
@@Crispy_W0lf The point of SnS is kinda that it can do everything yeah, but it's not the best in anything. So you have a massive toolkit, but if you find yourself preferring one particular part way more than others, you might want to switch to a weapon that specializes in it.

i'm not sure if this is in another video, but do you ever bring up how important it is to learning the range of your weapon? i hear a lot of people complaining about how their weapons are "too short" when dealing with things like kushala's wind aura. however, i've found that, when you position yourself correctly, you can easily hit its head and tail and even hit it's legs and body with any weapon. one of my favorite things to do with hammer is catching khezu in it's shock-circle animation and slamming down on it's head anyway due how far it can actually reach. yes, you do have to account for any movement in your attacks as many will move you forwards, but there are also plenty of rooted attacks that do not that allow for some extra hits when most people will just stand around waiting for the danger to go away instead fo attacking around it
