The Best-Preserved Pair of Skis from Prehistory

2 жыл бұрынWe have found the best-preserved pair of skis from prehistory! Back in 2014, the Secrets of the Ice program found an exceptional pre-Viking ski, 1300 years old, at the Digervarden Ice patch in Norway. The ski was complete, including the binding - one of only two skis from prehistory in this condition. Ever since, we have monitored the ice patch, hoping and praying for the second ski of the pair to melt out. Now it has happened! The new ski is even better preserved than the first one! It is an unbelievable find.

Gentlemen (und hund!) make sure you have marked the spot really well so all the other stuff the ancient traveller lost can be recovered when the ice melts further. And greetings from Australia!

The exact opposite of LAHT: Found Ancient Low Technology. Absolutely wonderful. I taught skiing for a decade at Coronet Peak. :) 3:57 - 1,300 years old is not prehistoric in any way, but it is very old for a pair of skis.

1300 years ago was the 8th century , just before the Vikings era. It was not prehistory at all!

Here in Norway, it is 🙂 Historical sources only start 200-300 years later than these skis.

Prehistory up here in Norway last to around AD 1030.

But the oldest skis were found in Russia. This is the Komi Republic. 8000 years.
