I watched your entire video and thought that is cool. I then proceeded to look for "Carving green wood to make a spoon". Then I had an idea, that I do have a good collection of hand tools and decided now there is something I could make and hand it down to my kids. :)

Simple & clear practical design. I think a darker wood might have yielded a slightly improved appearance. Also the scoop chisel used to chase out the border was made to look easier than I think most could manage. You might never use such a chisel ever again.

The V-tool is the most common carving chisel. And it is surprisingly easy to do that. Most people can do that in 5-10 minutes of practice. I have several carving videos showing it.

i saw someone use part of a dental mirror glued to a wooden block to see when the lead screw breaks through. they just placed it behind. they cut an angle so the mirror leaned back enough.

I keep checking the local airports, but just can't seem to find a plane with a propeller strong enough to stand up to ploughing it through solid wood. They have banned me from all the local airports as the planes keep crashing when I hit the trees trying to put grooves through the tops of them. Also, the hospital bills are really piling up. 😉 Besides, it's really hard to get the wings lined up with the surfaces at that speed anyway. The landing gear keeps getting in the way, and the smaller planes don't typically have retractable gear. 😎

Fantastic video as always 😊 I had to order a Lie Nielsen blade since you caused a real shortage over at Rockler 😁 Q: Do you see any reason why birch plywood can't be used? I got a bunch and I don't want to maintain the router plane for flatness.

Plywood will work fine. It will go out of flat just as much as if not more than solid wood but it will do the job.

I ordered the iron days before the live video dropped aaaand this project has ran Rockler clear out of stock. My order was canceled and leading up to this they wouldn't be in stock until late June 2022. Any advice on what iron would work best with the parts listed for this project? I already had the hardware bought, I was just waiting on the blade.

You can also use the irons from Veritas. They are diamond as opposed to square-shaped so you have to cut a different shape groove but they do the exact same thing. There's also an iron I've seen on Amazon but haven't had a chance to try it.

I like routerplanes. I made my own in a video a few years back. Then i started a playlist with videos on routerplanes. I added yours to the list. There are many on the list by now in many different styles.. There are so many ways to make them. I love your version! Check the playlist on my channel.

Yep. Unfortunately the live video last week drained them of that. You can do the same thing with a Veritas iron. Also there's a few on Amazon that are very similar.

@@WoodByWright Fortunately I have an old Stanley router plane. However, it's good to know there are replacement blades available from multiple sources.

I just checked it and it's working here. Unfortunately rockler is currently out of stock. You can also use the ones from Veritas though they come with a diamond form so you just have to cut a different shape channel.
