Did you ever happen to take some lessons with Jeremy Silver? I remember he told me you and him exchanged some conversation and that you were the only person in the web genuinely interest in learning and teaching the correct things.

That's interesting! No, I haven't worked with Jeremy but yes we did discuss registers and vibrato some time ago.

Hi Jussi, I struggle to even find my falsetto and can't produce any sound there and it goes all hoarse or whispery! How do I learn to find it from scratch? Thank you

Start with the whisper and blow air through the vocal folds without trying to resist it or make any real tone. The falsetto register is always very weak at first so be patient! Always use the oo vowel to begin with and then try with the ee vowel.

@@JussiPaul thank you! I'll try this - I keep ending up straining the chest voice and losing my voice!

I have no problem singing in detached falsetto (or at least i think so) but i have no idea how i should combine that release of this tension with cord closure and get this head-dominant singing voice. Is it really just practicing and hoping to find it by accident?
@JussiPaul4 жыл бұрын
Once the TA tension is released and the falsetto becomes really easy and has no feeling of being high then you need to start bringing back the TA tension but in a vastly reduced way. When the high notes are correct they will feel as easy as falsetto but the body needs to work a lot harder to support this new thinned down mechanism. Be caredful not to bring in the Appoggio too soon though otherwise you will take up the heavy mechanism again.

I was wondering if doing the lower register exercises in full voice up to middle "C" in some way helps develop the falsetto in the lower register too? Maybe by purifying the tone. Just a thought. Thank you!

The great thing with register training is that strengthening one register helps the other so yes, you're quite correct in assuming that!

@@JussiPaul Alright! I will include that in my daily practice. This is really helpful! Thanks again!!

So in other words...yodel??
@JussiPaul4 жыл бұрын
It is a bit like a yodel but in traditional yodelling the larynx goes up whereas in this exercise the larynx goes down.

The only difference between great opera singing and great yodelling is the laryngeal position. With yodelling the larynx moves up and down whereas in opera the larynx should stay in a floating but relatively still position. It is this lower laryngeal position which allows a bigger resonance and more legato. Even with the raised larynx it's amazing how much power and resonance the yodellers get. Apparently it began as a way to communicate from one mountain top to another so it just shows that falsetto is the mechanism that makes the voice carry over distance!
