I was 12 when The Cars came out and I've been hooked ever since. I loved their videos on MTV. Rick Ocasek was My Favorite! Awesome Video!!!

Great Video. I agree 100%. I have both and love them. I’m a cars freak and have the OGs as well, the Rhino releases are beautiful. Great work. Keep up the good work.

My experience was quite different. I found the rhino to sound compressed and veiled in comparison to the original press which sounds stunning! Wide open, transparent with a 3D like soundstage.

Excellent review (subscribed!), I have both too and you could not overstate the case for "definitive" pressing(s) here. In both cases the mix / mastering is balanced...instrumentation and vocals in equilibrium and it just sounds more cohesive than any other reproduction I have experienced of either. Our 12 year old and his 72 yr old grandpa were both stunned LOL...boomer, X, & Z approved!

My old man got me an OG pressing of the Cars' debut for my birthday a few years ago. I'll have to pick up this hi-fi copy if I can get hold of it.

Luv me some Cars! I scooped up the 2018 deluxe albums off ebay a few years ago and just recently an OG copy of Panorama for about $3.00. These guys should be on everyone's top ten for 'best recorded' vinyl. Phenomenal band. Other bands you may want to highlight for future vids..... Simple Minds, ABC and Talking Heads. All very well recorded. Great vid as always!

Sure wish Rhino would reissue this. I missed out last year unfortunately.

Hi Tim, Kevin set up is not all tube, it has tube stage that he uses for personal projects only, at least thats what he confirmed ones on the live KZfaq session with multiple guests I was watching ones. I asked that question and answer was no. By no he meant that tube stage is special and not for commercial use outside his own. Well, who knows, maybe he changed and with high paycheque he may make exceptions. Cheers.

I have always loved Candy O over the first cars Album. Maybe just got burned out on the first one or the songs on Candy O just click with me more. Anyway both great Albums

The candy o is amazing. The detail is so good the only downside side is the bass guitar and kick drum are kinda muffled but that is the mix not the mastering at all. RTB snowblind phase on full display. The toms on the drums get props though they are excellent and Elliot playing is stellar.

I completely agree. I haven't been able to let go of my MOFI though. I didnt realize Candy-O had been released. I just ordered it, thanks! Check out the 2018 release of Heartbeat City. It has an extra LP with bonus tracks and it sounds great. I didn't much care for The Cars back in the day, but I definitely like them now. Who can forget the infamous scene with Phoebe Cates and Moving In Stereo playing in the background?!

I own the original and Mofi pressing soundstage overall quality is great vocals are clear instruments are very present. Luxman PD277/ ortofon 2m black 2x Rotel monoblocks vincent 7o1 preamp speakers are infinity Kappa 8s. Obtaining a Rhino pressing in Australia 🇦🇺 is expensive now running into $90/100 aud I think I will have keep my Mofi 😅 But I did lash out and buy Aja UHQR which I haven't cracked open just yet 😊

The Cars Rhino reissue blew my mind If my speakers have a mind of their own I’m certain it was blown beyond mine! My speakers never performed so well! I’ve yet to purchase the Candy-O yet but it’s on my radar. I have a sealed OG first pressing of Candy-O and a couple mint open copies. Very tempted by this Candy-O Rhino pressing.
