Shrouded Spoils basically made it the game it should have been at launch. This video made me so nostalgic for the 2018 days, it was amazing back then

I really do feel like the Devil's Roar is getting left behind with all these new contents coming into the SoT. When I mention the shrines or forts being added to the Roar, a few times I would hear people say that they can't because of the volcanic eruptions but believe me there are a few locations in the Ashen area that are clear of volcanoes. I really hope that something does happen in the Devil's Roar soon.

I love that loot floats to the surface faster now... that being said i miss my favorite strategy... I used to swim deep under ships with kegs and release them and due to loot floating so slow i would swim up and board and start fighting the crew and during the heat of combat then the keg would go off adding to the chaos and possibly having some of the crew dead so they couldnt even try to start repairing.

Man as a Day 1 player I always find it so interesting having things I watched unfold before me be discussed as stories of the past, it's really quite an odd experience. Same goes for in game lore too, everyone's talking about Wanda the Warsmith and her big return and discussing all her backstory and I'm just sitting here thinking "I remember when I just bought swords from her"

Devil's Roar fort would be really cool as if some sort of instance similar to FOTD, with high tier loot aplenty. Also that fort is not in the middle of the map near multiple outposts with also the threat of volcanoes so winning the fight for said loot would make it much more high risk high reward cashing in. A very unused cool asset imo.

Finding coral encrusted bottles to find the breath of the sea is quite difficult, regular bottles spawn more often, even then you can just find quests in barrels randomly, you should also have a chance to find like barnacled maps or something in barrels to raise the chances of finding the Breath of the Sea.

I always wanted the breaths of the sea to buff your character in tune with their color, Blue makes you swim faster, hold your breath longer, and maybe something else. Green makes you run faster and slowly Regens half of your health like overheal from cooked food. Red should make you deal more damage but not too much, say make swords deal 30 damage, pistols deal 65, snipers deal 80 and blunderbusses have better spread while aiming. These should all last about a minute or two tops though

I replayed a fort with a friend, after not touching them for years, and it was really fun. I would love to see update for that. Aaand, also hope Rare does something with the adventures, because they are boring. I know they are for a short time, and they don't want to pore too much time into it, but making them more exclusive would benefit them, and also the players who had the luck to paly them

captaincy update will basically be shrouded spoils v2 being able to buy your own boat, have trophies on your ship, being able to repair your ship, and having the reaper servants deliver your loot for you

Building on the ship customisations in Shrouded Spoils, I would love to see customisable harpoons, and also lanterns and compass for the ship, which could just be what you've already collected, I think it would be a nice little feature, and of course the obvious, naming your own ship!

I would love being able to drink the breath of the sea for an appearance change into a merfolk/sirenfolk with bonus swim speed and infinite breath in water. Or a merfolk/sirenfolk costume.

I've only been paying for 2 weeks. Had no idea you could empty a barrel into a storage crate with one button. I've been putting the crate down and switching from the barrel to the crate.

Shrouded spoils was my favorite Y1 update. I really wish S5 delivered in the same regard. I think it’s about time we see the ship customization expanded to include lanterns, compass and harpoons. The Skelly brig is way overdue and new wether effects (or heck even just make fog more common around the center of the map. So much potential that doesn’t have to do with making new stuff.

Also I LOVE Stronghold Kegs. Big Bucks or Big Booms, both are my favorite.

Bruh, the devils roar definitely has more to do than just the ashen athenas. Ashen vaults aside, I find running order of souls there is incredibly profitable, considering that each ashen villainous bounty skull is worth 4-7k with a lvl 5 flag

I used to test the game half a year before it got released. There wasn't even a sloop by then. ONLY Gold Hoarder voyage. The game had no NPC's to talk to and you didn't go to them and buy voyage. When you joined the game, the riddle or x marks the spot was appointed to your inventory as soon as you joined. There were no forts, no megalodons, no krakens, it was all just a mith. There was no treasure chests, no skulls and no any merchant alliance items. There was only a shop for clothes and maps for future gold hoarders. And now we are here, look how much has the game progressed. It is unbelievable. Rare didn't gave up.

Add an Ice area on the west side of map. New items that are like containers that can be used to gather lava from the devil’s roar, that need to be transported to the ice area to melt doors that allow access to treasures inside.

When they released the change from the original 3 forts, (crows nest, shark fin and keel haul) to all of them, it was so dang fun. yeah it was just refreshed content but new environments just made it so much more fun.

Great video, seriously just so accurate and reminded me of how much I appreciate rare and their commitment to making the game feel more alive and how I believe they handled the updates from the beginning.

I feel like Devil's Roar is quite worth it is you're grinding for emissary because of the vaults and ashen skulls. Merchants isn't really worth it there because there are no sunken ship runs over there but it is much easier to do merchant runs (as long as the location stays in the Devil's Roar) The only thing I would like changed about Devil's Roar is the volcanos not going off when you're doing a Gold Hoarders Vault. Just because of how far you are away from your boat generally and the earthquakes always breaking your sprinting.

Man, this makes me nostalgic for the old SoT. Me and my friends started playing just before the anniversary update. I remember the huge adrenaline rush we got when we finished our first skull fort. The first time we spent 2 hours fighting a skeleton ship. We spent 3 hours looking for chests on cannon cove because we didn’t know how to read maps lol. Man sot was so magical back then. I still enjoy the game and play it often, but I feel like, for me, a lot of that magic has worn off even if I still get that feeling now and then. Most of that is probably just because of experience, but I also feel like the game has kinda lost its way. Rare has inflated the economy into oblivion, I have millions of coins and not much to spend them on. The new content they’ve added has been good, but still lacks a lot of replay-ability and depth. I want the old days when pirate legend was a huge grind and finding an ashen captain’s chest was an achievement. This video is all my thoughts summarized so well, we desperately need a another shrouded spoils. I love this game but 2019-2020 was really the golden age for sot, for me at least. I hope Rare listens and makes another shrouded spoils.

Where I agree Shrouded Spoils was sick at launch there was no update like Anniversary. It really brought a bunch of new players in and old players back with Fishing, Tall Tales, and Arena(RIP) that was the peoples updaye

I'de like them to see a refresh on the values of chests and how they work. Like, after getting lvl25 as gold hoarder, the X mark missions are 4 islands with 8x to dig each... and one chest value about 600g. I'de love to dig less chests and recieve more, i dont know... its too slow having to deliver 30 chests to earn a small amount of gold. Why not make chests rarer and more valuable???

Roar: -Reduce the earthquake/gyser frequency -Add a 3rd Vault location -Add more food/supply barrels -Add a sea fortress -Add a fort -Special mermaid shrine -New special PVE monster or skele type that drops abnormal treasure -Different skeleton ship type -Maybe something like a dragon turtle to compete with the meg/kraken

Shrouded Spoils is a major reason why the game survived year one before the anniversary update. So many new ways to get loot, so much new loot. It was fantastic. I have every commendation except that damn Shrouded Ghost!

Sorta unrelated but now that you mentioned it, the Kraken really needs better loot tbh, you get like 5 mediocre items at max, and then 1 meat for each treasure.

I've been playing since the last week of skeleton thrones, took a break from the game during hungering deep, but have been playing ever since. Its sooo much more fun now then back then.

It'd be nice if you collect an emissary voyage in the roar that the majority of the island be in the Roar. It's frustrating to complete some voyages in the roar only to leave because of emissary quests being outside of it.

I played in 2018 during the beta and after the beta was fun however the main release was very boring and I hated it however now I love the game and can never get enough it for the past year

As a day 1 player i remember that at the beginning there was absolutely nothing to do and skull forts was just like pvp practice untold hungering deep i started playing the game again but quit 3-5 days later and stopped playing till 2019

you didnt mention one of the biggest game changers added as well.... Kegs didnt used to have a fuse. you had to set it down and get a safe distance away and shoot it. for such a small change the ability to light a fuse is just so good

It's interesting to me that the forts existed prior to actual skull fort events. The forts just kind of sat there dormant. And when they first added events there, it was only a third of the forts on the map. And then finally, the forts existences made sense once all forts were capable of hosting the skull fort event. Just really odd to me. I truly think the games release was rushed out to meet the release of Xbox Gamepass, as it was a Gamepass launch title from Microsoft. There was so much content planned but not executed yet by Rare, and they eventually caught up with their initial vision and are now adding content that wasn't expected at launch.

Well that was a throw back and a haft I first came to the seas on shrouded spoils and never stopped 3 and a bit years later I'm pl a PvP pirate lord and love this game with all my heart. Thanks rare for making a game that is truely special.♥️♥️♥️

Besides the shrouded ghost of lies itself, hungering deep and shrouded spoils saved the game just as anniversary/pirates life did, but even better. Still rock Shark Slayer, and the tattoo/scar combo. whatta real adventure that was, we were fighting the giant for what felt like hours, there we floated; a galleon with no planks. we had patched up holes on every wall, but the giant kept on biting! no food left, just a few cannonballs in my pocket. the other sloop that started this with us, didnt do much of anything but sail in a circle, sadly after a few unlucky consecutive bites it sank! the meg circled round us again, with a handful of shots left I fired and fired till the very last shot, and as luck would have it, the giant hungering one finally roared upwards and was out for good. I couldnt believe it! but as much as I started celebrating, I heard what and found of why It was just me yelling happily lol, the galleon groaned and all I heard now where buckets! We were only a few moments away from sinking for good! Now, to the NE there was a chance, so we slowly limped against the wind to Devil's Ridge, while frantically bucketing the whole way! my crew cheered when I came back with planks. we all raised a grog and struck a happy tune as we sailed towards sharkbait cove, finally in the clear. Not only did we take out the beast, we did it basically alone! it took everything we had, but we did it, what a wonderful feeling that was. one of my favorite moments in gaming! honestly, wont ever forget it. thanks for the trip down memory lane Ray

What would be cool is if the Molten Sands fort in the Devils Roar got some new platforms and elevators to make gathering the loot more fun. Some lever activated traps in the tunnel that leads to the vault. Some buffs in the loot (maybe even an ashen mega keg) and a 5% of the Box of Secrets spawning in the vault with the rest of the loot, so we finally can get a commendation for selling that damn box. And maybe even a new boss at the end. Maybe Stitcher Jim.

I remember hating merchant alliance because the animal quests were too long. I played in around the very beginning after it came out I got it and had fun. Then when they added Meg it was even more fun

I played before the anniversary update but I was too laggy so I stopped playing and when I started playing again I didn’t know there was fire or the wheel capstan and masts could brake I was also soo confused with flamehearts head in the sky

yeah me and my crew we're decent in this game but not like pro players who stack like 12 FoD loot. We got all the fate flames, activated one FoD, fought against a few sloop who also were experienced, dealt with a few tuckers and got rid of them, later we finished this single FoD, had reaper level 5 flag active and sold all the loot. We played like for 6h or longer for all this and in the end of our session we noticed that the loot wasn't really worth it for spending so much time on doing a single FoD. After that we decide to never do a FoD again and just to grind all the other normal world events with reaper emissary. It just wasn't worth it for all that struggle to finish this one single FoD and constantly dealing with other players which caused us to take longer on finishing the FoD. Rare really need to boost a little bit of the rewards and such....

Interesting. I didnt start playing until early 2020. Well I take that back, I BOUGHT the game in early 2020 but didnt start playing until about 3 months before the Pirates life update. Still suck at the PvP aspect but its cool to watch videos on what SoT was like in the early days.

I've been saying exactly everything you said for the last 6 months, spot on Garry. Hard agree on putting more into the devils roar and Merm Shrines. Coral bottles suck to do, I've got every sunken shrine commendation except the breaths currently 4/30 zz

One thing I've wanted for a long time is the skeleton brigantine. It would finally balance the skeleton ship encounters by having the attacking ship always being the same as yours. (Except for skeleton fleets)

i think a cool quest idea for order of souls would be catacombs where you would find a key to it a bit like a vault then kill skeletons and like a few captains for lower reputation and then like skeleton lords for higher reputation or like an ashen lord there would also be skulls nd mermaid gems scattered about a bit like sea forts.

I feel like we need a wearable Curse of The Damned, possibly in 'stages' of progression, ending just before outright going Skelly/Skelly Lord. Maybe also provide interactions with other curses? Imagine Damned Ashen Dragons or Gold Hoarders?

I honestly feel that the storage crate was the single most impactful update. You know why? Because looting barrels sucks. And now it doesn’t. No other update has made this game not suck more than not having to ever access a barrel manually again.

I too want to drink the breath of the sea. I think it should just give you longer breath holding though. Making sunken ships and future scouring the deep a lot easier.

I’m of the opinion that the forts should be made significantly harder right now as they can easily be beaten in 20 minutes (aside from the FoF). However, I also believe that the FoF took it too far as it gives worse loot than the FotD and takes longer. If they made it so that all forts spawned the three generic skelly lords as part of the three final waved, but made them all have unique attacks from each other (the helmsman throws the steering wheels at you for example), I think that would be a good change. Obviously they’d also have to buff the loot a little bit, but if they made a change like this, forts would feel so much more unique.

Season 9 now is basically the new shrouded spoils affecting previous content and the sandbox

Have it so you can post bottle maps on the quest board. I don’t usually do them and get annoyed by clicking through a barrel to get some garbage map I won’t do. I would rather be able to post them for someone else who is going to that island and would like the extra bonus. I would also like a leaderboard system for buried treasure. It would work just like the emissary system. The same amount of points will give to you depending on rarity of the item, if skulls are in a chest(I feel bad killing a guy then burying him in the ground seconds later without a proper coffin), and an emissary grade for the corresponding loot. Reapers wouldn’t get a bonus because it’s out of character to stop at an island and bury treasure. I feel the quest board was only put in for buried treasure, which is fine, but I still think it deserves more.

What rare could do with the skull forts is have a chance of them becoming ghost forts. A bit like the fotd but are a bit easier and you get a ghost version of the different skeleton lords e.g two faced scoundrel. And if you killed the skeleton ghost lord you get a ghost stronghold skull along with ghost stronghold loot. This gives more content and it fits in with the spectral storyline... kinda... i think.

Been here since the betas got my pirate legend a month and a half after release been maxed out since they gave new levels to level up in waiting for this new legend upgrade I think about a week I'll be maxed out in Athena again

I think it would be so cool if they added a new area to the map like a ice biome instead of rocks in the see there would be icebergs and maybe ice would damage your boat or just slow you down

I think that if they were gonna make a the breath of the sea a consumable it should do something like make it so you swim much faster for an amount of time, which would make it so one of your team could catch up to a fleeing ship, anything short of a galleon with full wind, and attempt to anchor them or bring a keg with you to blow them up.

Here me out. At level 50 you upgrade the first voyages in each trading company, like for instance for the caption chest voyages, you now also have a good chance of getting a few cursed chests and mermaid gems

I’m an og i played in the first week of release and have the old bones original cutlass to prove it

I just want more weather effects. The storm could have a wider area of cover an entire region at times. They would have to tone it down a little just to make it bearable, but I think it would be cool. The cloud looks gigantic but the storm only covers like 4-5 squares. Have rain, no storm. Lighting and thunder, but no rain. Just little stuff to spice up the seas. Make it more lively.

Being able to load / unload crates is underrated and taken for granted

Back in the fackin good old days when everyone left the front door unlocked and we played a simpler version of SOT

Me and my mate usually dont do any voyages (unless we are on open crew). We spawn in, stock up the ship and just make up our own voyage as we go, complete with challenges and a goal. We dont care about the gold we might end up gaining or loosing. For us its about the adventure and spending time on something we enjoy doing. Never to waste it on something we find boring (Even if we get rewarded in the long run). And even so we have reached max level with all the main factions, except hunters call of course. And we are both hovering just around 20mil gold each. Gold will come no matter how you play. Doing something you think is fun and are really enjoying, is never wasted time, even if you sink and lose all the shinies... Again and again. Just get out there and try again. Maybe try a different approach to a problem, maybe violence is not the answer. Maybe it is. Adapt to every situation so that is suits your own narrative and you will always feel like a true Pirate Captain of old! We really have been enjoying the game for about a year now playing nearly every day using this simple method. "Create your own adventure" (tl:dr Have fun) Sure it might not be as rewarding as doing some sunken ship merchant runs, or stacking FoTD. But in the long run we are playing the game to relax and have a bit of fun after a hard days work. And we have met so, so many new friends that we might never have engaged with if we were doing the voyages. If you have loot and care about the gold, you usually just see people running and rarely engaging with another crew, not even talking, thinking the gold is the most important. (Maybe it is for you, aslong as you enjoy the game you can do whatever you like) But if you have some loot. Or none. But dont care about the gold at all (Because it really is irrelevant and is only used for cosmetics and such, which you will get eventually anyway) and instead choose to engage with your fellow players in a little chat or a fight or whatever happens on the seas, you will start to enjoy this game alot more! And with every addition Rare is making to the game, is a new way to make friends...or enemies! So the best update imo is all of them, or the recent one! PS: The best advice I can give is that if you ever stumble upon a new player. Dont just kill them on sight or if they are on your crew dont harass them for beeing new to the game! We were all new once. Show them why YOU love the game so much and why YOU choose come back to it! Help them and make their session the best you can! Let your passion rub off unto these brave new sailors. This happened to me and I am still here, still loving the game every bit as much as I did my first time learning to steer a ship! Maybe you can help another person find their new favorite game. After all, kindness is its own reward.

I like the idea of being turned into a menfolk with the breath of the sea, but I think its a bit too common for that. Maybe gives you a refill of oxygen or full oxygen for a minute and a speed boost, i think that would be a bit more balanced

The first year of sea of thieves is still my favorite. I liked the updates, and that stuff was a littlebit "harder". Dont get me wrong, rare have been pushin out some nice updates over the last years, but still, the hungering deep and shrouded spoils will always be my favorite. And good memories over all the fights over regular skullfort, and selling loot for 20k+ was a insane amount back in the good old days 🤣
