I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the kzfaq.infoUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

My preferred plate are the Strength Co. Machined, nice ecoat that won't get beat up on the back as much as the Rogues, made in USA, veteran owned and operated, smaller operation.... only knock is they don't have 35s... yet :) But as with everything, it just really depends on what the individuals preferences are.

Ive got a bunch of York Iron and bumper plates. They are pretty accurate for weight. The finish on the iron plates chips easy, but I consider that a minor issue. The York bumpers have the rubber smell. While it fades, it never seems to completely go away. I also have a pair of Rogue 26er waqgon wheels. The 26ers are awesome. Well made and no smell.

I'm holding out my plate purchases (and sled) for Iron Warrior's plates & sled! I love the company, American made in South Dakata, supporting the military, and probably my favorite bell finish of any of the kettlebell brands. And this is why you need to review their bells & the warbell. Not b/c the warbell is an interesting new tool for the home gym, but because the finish has an extra benefit I'm not sure they're aware of - it's insulated of sorts. I have several bells that are sitting in a cold brick fireplace in my house. My KB kings are cold to the touch on these chilly mornings. So are my MBodyStrength & Perform Better bells. But something in the Iron Warrior coating keeps that cold at bay from my hands. Perfect for everyone who goes into the gym w/o a heater on these cold days!!

Bought the Strength Co. plates when they had their sale in November. Fairly thing and the center hole is very tight on the bar. Makes them quite for deadlift but without a deadlift jack I find them a pain to get on the bar for deadlift specifically. EliteFTS then did a sale for their plates so I grabbed a pair of those. Little wider then the Strength Co but the center hole is a little larger making it easier to slip on the bar. I know he's doing online ordering but other places to check out is local fitness stores. I was able to get new plates for a $1.00 per pound a couple of years ago. I know that our local place currently has dumbells on sale as they kept getting them in so now they are overstocked. You might find the same situation for plates if you are lucky.

Nice review. I've the Rogue Black Training Plates and Eleiko Weightlifting Training Plates. Both are great, but yes the Eleiko are much more expensive. The Eleiko are not made in China like the Rogue Plates. The Eleiko Weightlifting Competition and Training Plates are made in Sweden - which accounts for some of the additional cost. Eleiko do make some plates in China like their sport plates. The Rogue plates are great and have more of a "rubber" feel, but still an impressive durometer - so very little bounce when dropped. The thing I like most about the Rogues is the look, you get the color, but the edges are black, so the wear is hidden. With full color plates, it is easier to tell when they develop wear. The Eleiko definitely have a different firmer feel with the proprietary SBR rubber and have a dead bounce. I'd be interested in a review of the Uesaka plates. They have the reputation of being some of the best in the world, but I've never experienced them in person.

Great overview! Two things come to mind: 1) I wonder how Fringe Sport MILSPEC plates hold up among the most durable for the money (not crumb rubber like Rogue or hi-temp). 2) I've only used my bumper plates (Fringe Sport Contrast) - and one aspect I really like is the thinner raised lip around all weights. This allows me to handle 10s thru 45s one handed with ease. The alignment, for my hand at least, is very good and as I try holding them envisioning the wider lip - I think a lot of one handed handling would become two handed, without fingers getting under the lip as nicely for me. Edit: I forgot I have a single Hulkfit 45 lb here in a closet. I can't hold onto that for long with one hand with the wider lips. If I ever need to replace my bumpers, I will ensure the lip is similar. This is hugely beneficial and more efficient in use for weird people like me. Edit more: It looks like thinner lips are generally on competition bumpers. Nearly all brands use thicker ones for the training bumpers but thinner for comp. Unsure why, but Fringe seems to be unique in this offering for non-comp.

Yeah fringe sport is my favorite because they have that and also a the hooked metal inserts inside the center hub so the hub is molded into the rubber kinda of like concrete with rebar into it. Plates with handles are very underrated for 45lbs. and up. Unless you have plate storage on your rack to efficiently move them onto your bar, get plates with handles iron plates with a decent lip. Handling my 45lb. and 55lb., slippery bumper plates in and out of my plate rack is a hassle in my compact garage gym. I usually just start with 25 lb. plates and add on 10s, 15s or 25s as needed. When I built out my garage gym I got bumper plates for the aesthetic and sound reduction, but I don't do Olympic lifts so I would choose differently now for the heavier plates.

Note on those CAP grip plate. The open grip area doesn't provide any support for the rim and they tend to crack there if not handled nicely. This only applies to the 45# version. I have several 10s and 25s with no issues

I've picked up 45, 25, 10 and 5 Cap plates and all of them I've had to dremel out the center holes because they were rough and scratching my posts. Don't know what that will do to the longevity of the plates, but it's something to be aware of if you buy them. Otherwise, they've been great because all I was after was getting more weight cheaply. A 45 pound plate for $63 seemed worth that inconvenience.

Hi Temps! Durable, cheapish, safe for floors or use outdoors, recycled rubber, American company and made in America. Pro tip… the 45’s are so thick that it’s tough to move them with one hand. Just get 2 pairs of 25’s (easier math) or 2 pairs of 35’s and just load the rest of the barbell with the cheaper shorter diameter iron plates so they won’t even touch the floor. I’ve never done that with more than 400lbs so maybe 3pairs if you’re going really heavy or else the bumpers could be permanently bent a bit.

great vid! i'd just add that SMELL is a factor for some of us. and for some of us, not all, it's because we're really *sensitive to offgassing and chemical smells.* can make us sick or give headaches. so, knowing which plates don't do that and would be ok indoors would be great!!! those rubber stall mats are a deathtrap for me. the ONE i got, to test out, it's been outside in sun and rain for over a year. : ( still smells. i wouldn't even care about just an odor but i can't deal with head dragging nausea or migraines. (i actually like the smell of gas and motor oil, reminds me of mechanics stuff, my dad and my uncle, but i can no longer do the fumes. it just suddenly one day shifted. nothing i can do about it. now, generators and lawnmowers are just..... THE WORST. and car exhaust. thank god for electric mowers these days!) *URETHANE - i hear is the least smelly, or that it has no smell* *VIRGIN RUBBER - i hear is next best. it's nothing like the composite stuff they make tires out of or recycle tires to make things like plates and mats.* *it's not rubber that is the problem, per se, but the chemicals involved in processing it and sticking it all together. that's why virgin rubber is supposedly so much lighter on the smell/offgassing.

No category for coolest looking bumper plates? Fringe sport has the best looking bumper plates with their Savage series. They are on my Christmas list for Black Friday this year. I want them. I NEED them. Great video guys and gals. Always have to watch, even if it’s a video about Bowtech. (which is quite an accomplishment on your behalf)

Coop's totally sleeping on the steel plate category, too. Plasma-cut or CNC'd and even stainless steel versions thereof. Lots of interesting plates came out in the past couple of years due to "market pressures", including many crafted from steel. They make a harmonious ring as well, check out ATX's calibrated steel/chromed plates for an example.

Walmart bumpers. Love to see a review on them. The 10s are crazy flimsy but 25 and 45... might be something there.

I checked them out in several different Wal-marts over the past year as I was interested in them, the thing I noticed was the consistency between the bumpers was off as far as circumference, width & color shading (especially between the 45's)..in two instances I also found a yellow colored 25# plate when of course they're supposed to be green. In the end I found a set of used Titan Elite's.👍

I got Eleiko calibrated powerlifting plates for cheaper than what you'll find basic 25mm iron plates now in Sweden. I'm talking 778 SEK/$76 per 20 kg plate, 918 SEK/$90 per 25 kg plate, and the small plates were quite cheap too. They were moving their warehouse and doing a clearance sale. I still can't believe it really happened. You'd have to pay almost as much as I paid for a 25 kg for a cheap 20 kg. That's ridiculous. The shipping was like $70 too. I bought a Rogue Ohio Power Bar (20 kg) in stainless steel, and it wasn't in stock in Europe, so I bought it, along with a few other things, all the way from America! That was pretty cool, getting stuff from the US. I did have to pay import duties, so in the end, it would've been cheaper from Belgium, but at least this one was in stock.

I went with the strength Co. plates. They are absolutely beautiful plates I’m so impressed with them. I love rogue products but I like the looks of strength co. Over the rogue deep dish and they are still USA made. The thin rogue plates are nice but I think more money.

I like the strength Co plates but I prefer rogue deep dish for looks and the sound they make is unique. Also strength Co doesn’t machine the backs of the plate that one was kinda a dealbreaker.

I own strength co and rogue deep dish. I prefer the quality control/finishing with rogue compared to strength co e coat issues. I prefer the strengthco size compared to rogue deep dish. I like to mix and match plates which gives me whatever flavor I need for strength training.

@@thestrengthco yea understandable, its just after owning rogues it’s hard to go back to plates that don’t have machined backs. The aesthetic and feel is just very nice. Also it wasn’t just the machined back that made up my mind it just was the final nail in the coffin on my decision to go for the rogue plate. I liked that rogue made their plates out of ductile iron which would make a supposed stronger longer lasting plate, the sound they make was also a unique plus. Also they were made in Michigan my home state which was another big one. Still your plates are made in the USA and I really like the face of your plates just wanted that machined back and I might’ve gone your direction even without having ductile iron. There also at a great thickness as well, I personally think that the new rogue thin plates might be a little to thin.

Rep’s old school iron plates is what I’ve got and I couldn’t be happier for what I paid. I got them before they went to “free shipping” so I’m not sure if I would still get them because it would probably be cheaper to get Rogue’s version and just pay for freight shipping. Got 12 45s and the weight is pretty true to as advertised. Heaviest was 46.6 and lightest was 44.6. Most were right around 45 pounds though
