You talk about the Pentecost around 10-minutes or so. the Pentecost story is one of my favorites in the new testament. When I first heard it I saw that it was an undoing of the Tower of Babel which was an eye-opening realization about the nature of the New Testament. Thank you for another good upload.

no visible notes - no power points - no paper boards - no irritating background music - just culture and learning distilled in a mind - a great mind speaking with clarity and simplicity of difficult concepts. Heaven!

I just want to say that Michael himself is the greatest reason why these lectures are so good. The way he delivers information and spins the story of any given thing he’s lecturing on grants the material a strange sort of cosmic significance that I haven’t seen in many other speakers. Whether he’s discussing Faust, Nietzche, Kierkegaard, or any other, he delivers the message in a way that illustrates the depth and beauty of humanities thoughts. Thank you Doctor.

I love these videos. It highlights how cleverly tailored the Bibles are. This does not mean the book is full of lies but it clearly had mortal hands writing them.

I try to imagine taking notes for lectures like these and I have no idea how I would do it. Too slow...I would have to record it and re-view it multiple times. I suppose this is where the textbooks come into play

Great lecture. The universality of the message is one of the great hallmarks of the faith. Remember Jesus is the second Adam according to PAUL and the last Adam. He is recreating humanity or pushing the reset button on all humanity completely undoing the damage for by the first Adam.

Or ... it could be seen as a cult (one of many at the time) that was leveraged to great effect by those with power and authority (e.g., Constantine). Sure did a number on making the masses love their servitude and pledge obedience!

What a gifted teacher! The only thing I slightly disagree with is the assertion of Luke ‘sugar coating’ aspects of early Christian teaching. The passion narrative must have been truly shocking & repugnant to Luke’s first readership
@danielgrotz6599
@danielgrotz6599 Жыл бұрын
Probably no more shocking than it is to ours. We don't see crufixions nowadays after all.
@nanashi7779
@nanashi7779 Жыл бұрын
It seems strange to claim that the description of the passion would've been shocking to a culture that had already experienced hundreds of crucifixions at the hands of Pilate and the like

Paul died before the sacking of Jerusalem at the hands of Nero in 64 AD it was presumed. Therefore wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that Acts was written between 60 and 70 AD?
@ErikNilsen1337
@ErikNilsen1337 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. Moreover, the theory that Mark was composed after AD 70 rests on the assumption that he couldn't have *predicted* the destruction of the Temple, even though that's exactly how that passage is presented - Jesus' prediction of future events that have not yet happened at the time of composition.

Just like Nietzsche's correct predictions about contemporary society.
@danielgrotz6599
@danielgrotz6599 Жыл бұрын
It does not rest on that assumption. There are lots of Christians such as myself who believe Jesus predicted the destruction of the temple and still date Mark to 70 AD.
@danielgrotz6599
@danielgrotz6599 Жыл бұрын
It would but only in the absence of stronger evidence. The lack of Paul's death in Acts could suggest an early date but there are many other indicators in Luke and Acts to suggest the later date and the evidence is generally agreed to override the former.
@danielgrotz6599
@danielgrotz6599 Жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that's an argument from silence so it's generally not going to take much evidence in the opposite direction to override it
