There is a pretty cool theory on the pronunciation of YHWH. It is often pronounced as YaHWeH, most likely because us humans seem to have a preference for vowels. However, some scholars and Rabi’s have come to notice that the letters YHWH represent the sounds of breathing. When pronounced without intervening vowels it sounds very similar to breathing. YH (inhale): WH (exhale). This could be the reason that it’s considered unspeakable because it is intended to be breathed instead of spoken. So that would mean from our first breath to our last that we are speaking the name of God. God has also given us breath so that would mean that this is a constant reminder that we are alive because of God. He is our breath of life, our life sustaining power.
@bigol9223
@bigol9223 Ай бұрын
I find it interesting how if we were to pronounce it with vowels, Yeshua and Jehova could be considered the same word in slightly different accents, such as might evolve within the same language over the course of a few thousand years. I don't think I've ever heard anyone discuss this.

Hearing that about Leviathan the Serpent just made me think: what if it actually did start out like a little garden snake but it’s immortal? And it has just been growing like normal snakes do. Anacondas get so big that they can’t move very well on land, and they hunt better in water. Maybe Leviathan started in Eden but eventually had to go to the sea, and Creation’s time limit is how long it takes to grow 300 miles.

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” Which makes it sound like the snake will stay on land and be small enough to have its head stepped on. But I guess there could have been more than one serpent at the time. ..

Regarding Judas, I like the theory that he was an accelerationist revolutionary. This states that Judas saw Jesus as King of the Jews, who had come to free them from the Romans, and literally conquer them. He grew impatient and sold Jesus out, not for the money, but to force his hand against Rome. When Jesus let himself be arrested and killed, it shattered everything Judas believed, so he took his own life.

I'm somewhere between Agnostic and Athiest, but I was raised as a Lutheran. I often was the one in my Catechism and Bible Study classes asking questions and theorizing, but typically I was told to just "shut up and believe because diverging from the scripture is sinful." For instance, I had originally mentioned the theory of "What if the 7 days of the earth being created is hypothetical and it actually represents 7 heavenly years which are more like billions of human years. That would also explain how Evolution happened too and how there were animals millions of years before humans" but it got shot down immediately and I was made to look like an idiot in front of my class. Its extremely liberating knowing that the ACTUAL Bible is like "No homie, please make theories. I WANT you to have questions and your own personal interpretation." And there are a LOT of religious groups and people with questions and skepticism like me. I still am agnostic-athiest, but at least I know Im not damned to hell for being skeptical of the words of some old dude in front of a church who's biggest fact source is not scripture, but "trust me bro, you wouldnt get it."

I'm a Christian and teach a lot of Bible studies, and this is why I never shoot down a young person's ideas even if I disagree. We also discuss everything they bring up, I will explain my point of view, but I don't tell them they're wrong. I just tell them how I see it. 99% of the time, as we study farther, they will correct themselves if they are incorrect, and that's a much better way to learn.

I’ve heard the idea that evolution happened in the Bible before but not to offend you or try to force my opinion on you or anything, but in my eyes it makes no sense for a couple reasons. 1) If you read the Bible then you know the fossil record would be the product of the flood, not evolution. 3) The fossil record does not accurately depict evolution. It instead depicts deposition of carcasses from the flood from the sea up to higher inland (as a global flood would rise) 3) Even though you are right in pointing out that it isn’t exactly know how time worked during creation, it still would take an infinite amount of time to spontaneously create new genetic information as to do so goes against the law of the conservation of matter and energy and the property of entropy most importantly. For a natural process to break entropy naturally is simply impossible as for a process to be natural it must follow the flow of entropy. (Entropy being the state of order/chaos in the universe. It’s a bit complex so you’ll want to look it up but it pretty much says that less complex and more chaotic states are natural and will always occur if entropy is allowed to progress naturally without interference. Things that are complex and ordered like DNA are extremely unlikely which is proof that it would have to have been created. A good example of entropy in action is how a log decomposes. It becomes more and more like dirt until it is dirt because dirt is a low entropy form how matter.)
@mckenzie2423
@mckenzie2423 3 ай бұрын
I go to a Catholic high school and in our Theology class, we are taught that the Bible uses a lot of symbols and therefore, is not always 100% literal. So like when 1,000 is used, like with people and things, it means immeasurable/innumerable/numerous because in that time it was written, 1,000 was a lot and in SOME places, is basically impossible for 1,000 people to gather. Or with the story of Adam and Eve and Cain worrying about other people, Adam and Eve actually represent multiple groups of humans, therefore, when Cain is made to wonder, he worries about being attacked by other people meaning from other groups and not from his siblings or something. So Adam and Eve before the specific story about Cain and Abel, are actually about the multiple groups, and Cain and Abel is a story about brothers from a specific group.

think that might be a commentary on current culture... because that really shouldn't be a controversial topic... it's very "all other religions are bad and even learning about them is a crime..." or at the very least has some similar vibes. especially when you think the entire idea of a democratic society is that you can hold any belief as long as it's not infringing on another's.

The Limbo of the Fathers is described in the Bible as being separated from the part of hell that people think of (fire, brimstone, damnation, etc...), known as Gehenna, by a large chasm. I'm kind of surprised that there was no mention of Melchizadek in this. He's a rather interesting guy who just shows up to Abraham's camp, says "hey, we worship the same God," and may or may not have partaken in a ceremony similar to communion with him before leaving. I've heard all sorts of theories about the guy over the years, including that he was one of the sons of Noah or that he was literally Jesus who went back in time to save Abraham. While I find most of the theories about him unconvincing, I cannot deny that how intriguing he is.

I think the most plausible theory about the “Third heaven” is that the sky and space are often referred to as the heavens. So in that regard it makes sense that Paul would say he ascended into the third heaven. This is because he passes through the first and second heaven (our sky and space).

Because the sad truth is that a lot of people who follow a faith are probably just like this guy. Wholesome and non-confrontational. The sad truth is it only takes an encounter with someone from that small, but loud and violent niche to ruin someone's perception of a community. That's true for ANY community, ESPECIALLY in 2021 where the vacuum chamber social medias have emboldened the maniacs and promoted a culture of never self-policing your faction for them to stomp out extremism before those maniacs strike out at someone.

Yeah, that's very true. An interesting rule of thumb is that if a name ends with -el, it is almost guaranteed to be of Hebrew origin and probably comes from the bible. There are many examples, such as: Daniel, Nathanael Michael, Ariel, Isabel, Emmanuel and so on. I'm sure you can come up with lots more names to add to that list.

My name is one of the few traditional (ie not one of the recent made up names like Neveah) names that isn’t biblical, it’s Roman, but girls have less biblical names because so many traditional girls names are plants or months. But like 90% of names in English speaking nations are either directly from or a diminutive of a biblical name because people used to just open the book and pick a name of a biblical figure because when you have 13 kids and half of them are gonna die anyway you put less effort into the naming thing

You should dive into the Bible, it’s absolutely filled with fascinating stories of ancient times and many of these stories have been proven true! Btw for anyone wondering about around 13:45, it seems like some info cut out but I’ll fill in: the guy that he’s referring to is King Herod, who was keeping John the Baptist as a prisoner at the time. So Herod threw this big ol party, and long story short, his wife asked for John’s head on a sliver platter, and that’s that

@@travisgriffing6569 I'm pretty sure it was the Wife of Herodias, Salome's mother who told her to ask for it. She was pissed because John said her and Herodias's marriage wasn't legitimate. Of course this means Herod was perving so hard on his step granddaughter that after one liscentious dance he was willing to grant her anything she wanted. The story is pretty crazy overall.

@@jakeheye4931 Welp I'm ashamed to admit that it is more of a general concept right now, than an on-going project haha. So far it involves the Antichrist manifesting itself as an information bomb spread throughout the Internet and literally brainwashing people into doing it's bidding, which is usually related to the entertainment industry, in order to veer the masses' attention away from it's more effective doings. It's not very thick plot-wise, which means that it must rely on style over substance, and that's why I still don't know how to begin working on it. I was planning on turning it into a mid-length comic or visual novel. I'm open to suggestions lol

The theory surrounding Naked Boy Fleeing Gethsemane made me really emotional as a believer. What a powerful way of looking at that scene. Why else would it have been included? It makes sense that it didn't take time to directly state the boy had been raised from the dead because that part was all about Jesus and rightfully so.

That's literally what St. John says at the end of his Gospel, it would be impractical to write everything. In the later writings of the 20th century mystic Maria Valtorta a lot more detail is given. Mystics fill in the details, these are officially termed private revelations and the Church approves them in as much as they aren't heretical and possess sufficient proof to be worthy of religious faith.
