One of the best surprises from the movie and probably the best acted cameo in the movie. Like freaking Margot Robbie and Selena Gomez also have big scenes, but he's the one I remember the most of the cameo cutaways. And his scene explained the concept associated with it the best.

The other two were very easy on the eyes though. He did come off as extremely cool; tan, silver hair, tattoos, expertise with a knife.

This analogy suggests that the junk rated mortgages in the CDO’s started out as prime loans. Which they didn’t, but it was great to see him in the movie nonetheless and he acted this really well.

yah better if it was just parts of the fish that no one wants to eat , not good parts that just didn't sell for some reason and are a bit old.

That's what I was thinking too. CDO's were probably the "Takeout" fish stew you left in the freezer 6 months ago that you reheat and add to a new stew.

So essentially, you take a shitty mortgage bond and put it into something that you say isn't shitty and it has a better chance of selling because you're hiding the fact that it's shitty.

A bit more complicated than that, sometimes they even put the things that do sell into that "something" to improve the overall quality of the product, sometimes they split the parts that do not sell, sometimes they intentionally don't sell those part at all before putting them into CDOs. It's a lot more complicated than what the movie suggests but it's based on the same principle, most of it is gambling, and not even responsible gambling, irresponsible gambling.

his analogy didn’t work for me as far as understanding a CDO lol, but still a phenomenal appearance from someone we miss
@sidwhiting665
@sidwhiting665 Жыл бұрын
A CDO is a mixture (like a soup) of good and bad assets. The "good" assets cause the package deal to get rated higher than it should. While initially it may be only a little "cutting corners" here or there, this can spiral out of control when someone gets away with it long enough. . Investment bank / bankers = restaurant / chefs CDO = soup Mix of AAA (best) down to BBB (worst) rated bonds = soup ingredients (some fresh, but many stale) Bond rating agencies = food inspector paid kickbacks not to bust the chef . Not a perfect analogy, but good enough for the average layman to understand the gist: investment banks were creating assets that looked much better on paper than they were, and the rating agencies refused to rate the bonds honestly because they got so much business from the investment banks.

Was the intelligence of a dolphin a good thing or a diss? They are pretty smart
@mirzaahmed6589
@mirzaahmed6589 3 жыл бұрын
He's saying that if a news report or scientific study came out that halibut has the same intelligence as a dolphin, people will no longer want to eat it. Most people love dolphins, enjoy swimming with them, etc, and would never dream of eating one, so if a story like that comes out, people will stop eating halibut too (unless he tricks them into eating it in a fish stew).

Because as humans we don't eat things that have high intelligence. We consider that inhumane. We have no problems eating dumb animals. So if it turned out that Halibut were very smart and felt pain/fear etc. Lots of people won't eat them.

@@mirzaahmed6589 thank you! I couldn’t figure it out. I kept interpreting “maybe it just came out” as how it came out from cooking which didn’t make sense to me but now I get the “maybe it just came out” meant came out in the news/knowledge. I think since the scene is in the kitchen I kept relating the phrase to say how good “comes out” as in the quality of the food cooked. Like, “this burger did not come out like I had hoped.” Anyway, at this point just interesting the language misunderstanding that kept me from getting what he was saying. Thank you for the explanation!
@TheElectricBuddha

I know it's been answered, but no, he was complimenting dolphins. If it came out that halibut were as smart, people wouldnt want to eat them.
