I'm not sure! Lol 😂 I kinda want a female panther chameleon after watching a bunch of Bill's videos! Much more research is needed and an enclosure would need to be built. I realize that's not exactly what you asked. Lol 😂 idk I can't pick yet!

Parson's hands down! The main thing is they don't like heat! The male I had would hang on the coaxial cable for the TV antenna and just chill in the cool air. They had free range in the office apartment of the fish farm in Miami. I never had success with offering small rodents or newly hatched button quail but when I was hand feeding some baby cockatiels the male made a bee line for container that had them chirping inside. I didn't;t let that experiment run its course. Later when I was at a World of Orchids I had two pairs free roaming in a 1/2 acre conservatory . Really no problems the males and females had enough visual barriers that very few squabbles happened . IME Parson's are one of the most peaceful species. The least dominate one would change color and get out of dodge. This means males turn black and females yellow. There was never any biting or direct interaction that would force my intervention . This brings up the 90's reptile thing that you could buy a Parson's for $45 USD at one of the importers in South Florida. Price them now!

I absolutely adore chameleons! This was a great video! I have two panthers of my own and they are the sweetest things! HOWEVER, to all of those looking to get a chameleon, please be aware that they have very specific care requirements that if not met will lead to either illness or death. The initial investment into a setup is easily $1k. All of the information that pet stores tell you about them is wrong, and the chameleon kit is a complete scam and waste of money. If you DO intend on getting a chameleon, purchase from a BREEDER! Below is some basic information :) - Chameleons NEED at MINIMUM a 24"x24"x48" enclosure - YES even juveniles. Many use an XL Reptibreeze - They need T5HO UVB in a LINEAR bulb 6% or 12% - Do not use any fake branches or plants, no fake or real moss or anything of the sort - Use all real plants (repotted into organic, fertilizer free, perlite free soil. Washed leaves as well) - Use real branches and sticks - NO water fountains. They need drippers and misters - NEVER fog or mist during the day - NO bedding, reptile carpet, or pee pads. Just have the plain bottom of the enclosure. For more information PLEASE go to Chameleon Academy either here or just google them! Bill Strand is amazingly smart and helpfum Adam, if you find value in this, it would be great to have it pinned so those interested don't make a hasty decision. I've seen it happen too many times.

Again another great vid👍🏻 I have a video idea which will help your viewers, can you speak about diseases/viruses in bearded dragons such as metabolic bone disease, infectious stomatitis, hepatic lipidosis, adenovirus, pinworm & coccidia etc.. How to avoid your bearded dragon getting them such as hygiene, tank clean, not mixing dragond etc.. and also how to treat them for pinworm/parasites or when you should seek a vet, also common signs to look for, depression, lethargic etc etc... I'd really enjoy a video like that an I think it would be a massive help, I recently lost a bearded dragon, who's growth was stunted and became ill, she had a seizures on the floor and was really weak, she passed away, to the hidden killer disease but the signs were there and I wasn't aware, I now have researched a huge ammount because I never want this to happen again it was heart breaking, Thankyou Louis 👍🏻

I have always thought those small chameleons would make the best little reptile pets! You can give tiny animals so much space and see more natural behaviors and they tend to breed more easily and thus more captive-bred animals for people. win-win! Thanks for reminding people to avoid wild-caught animals. 💚🦎🐸
@chameleonbrothers
@chameleonbrothers Жыл бұрын
The brevicorne actually gets quite large. The species your holding are either young or a type of Brevicorne that does not get imported. Most brevs are wild caughts and are not easy to keep in captivity. Brevs require cooler temps and require a lot of water so I would consider the Brev for more experienced keepers. Panthers are absolutely amazing as pets parsons are great bec they are hardy but do require cooler temps and a lot of water like the Brevs making them harder to keep husbandry wise. Micro chameleon/ pygmy are extremely rare in captivity and wild caught are very fragile. They only have a 2 year life span so that would make for not a solid pet if people are getting attached to there chameleons. Carpets are great if they are captive bred. Wild caught are very challenging to keep.

It's also important to note that Parson's Chams live up to 15 years, which is forever for a chameleon

I feel that. My Meller's is now 13y and climbing has just started to become a bit of an issue. People seem to forget that just like any creature sooner or later the body starts to decline. I've got him in a vet setup now because I was worried about falls but for a chameleon that big, used to a enclosure that's half a room long and tall... I had to get creative. Anytime I am out with one of the boys and people ask about how to get started I always warn them that the upfront costs are expensive (I spend about $1000 per panther on enclosure, lights, misters, dripper, plants, branches etc. Yes a lot of those are one time costs but that initial start can be expensive. Mind I also go fully bioactive.) That emergencies do happen and often because they like to hide their problems it takes a lot more work to nurse them back to health then say, a dog or cat (thankfully that's never really been an issue for me with only one respiratory infection in the years I've been keeping them. But I also do monthly exams up to the first 6 months and then bi-yearly exams after that. So what I don't catch the vet does before it requires a lot of meds/work. I have a deal with the teaching clinic, the students get to learn how to preform actual Heath exams on an exotic and I get discounts on vet bills).

My only problem with carpet chameleons is that they live only for around 3 years

@@WickensWickedReptiles I wanted one since temperature fluctuates where I stay. So a cooler temperature tolerant chameleon was in my thoughts. How about a vid on those!?

5. Don't get a chameleon 4. See above 3. Yup, up there. 2. You getting this yet? 1. See above. Caveat: so many chameleon keepers have them for 1 year. We're getting better but we ain't there yet.

Awesome species. A Carpet Chameleon would definitely be the top of our list for our next chameleon! Go to the Chameleon Academy podcast and KZfaq channel for the best and current information.

It’s important to note that chameleons in captivity are very, very different than in the wild.
