I am currently undertaking an animal management course at college and for the last week i had been listening to a podcast series about chameleons for my animal training subject. Today i watched this video and then went back to the podcasts only to realise you are the one who made the podcasts. Jackson’s chameleons are my absolute favorite. I was first interested in Panthers for their gorgeous colors, but I decided they weren’t for me. And then at a reptile expo, a vendor was selling Jackson’s chameleons. I was immediately in love. That vivid green was mesmerizing. I bought a male the next day. He’s been an absolute angel.

Same I love them they usually don’t change colors much or mine doesn’t but it loves to hide but it tries to sneak up on me sometimes I act like I loose him and let him climb on me I never grab I let him choose if he wants to come up on me he is an amazing companion

I've been watching tons of videos regarding chameleons because I have the chance to buy a veiled chameleon, but in every video they say this kind is super fisty and grumpy, and I was close to giving up. @@tomasgomes8793 Thank you! Ofcourse Fluffy also has his grumpy times but it can get better! Read their body language, don't touch them if they back away, feed them from your hand, give it space and a big home. Those things will make it trust you eventually. I would recommend getting a 4months old chameleon to raise it from the start and let it get used to you. have a nice day as well!

I got my first chameleon, a 10 month old veiled male a couple weeks ago. His first family was moving and their new landlord found out they had a chameleon (he didn't care about their dog or cat), he told them they couldn't bring him. The family had listed him for free for over three weeks, but they live in a rural area so they had no takers. When we contacted the family they were so grateful that we agreed to keep in contact with them they gave us EVERYTHING they had for him (including a temp gun). I did upgrade his UVB and added more enrichment items to his enclosure, but she had most everything covered. We named him Jupiter, he's my pissy boy, but that attitude just endears me to him even more! He's been an amazing addition to our family! I feel so fortunate to have him in our lives! I hope to give him long, happy life with us!

My Rex is about 2 years old and I adopted him about 7 months ago. He has gained weight and his tail looks better than when I got him. Always vary the food a bit and do buy calcium powder.

Abigail Thompson it is amazing how chameleons are mostly air! And when they want to they suck it all in and hide behind branches! Although they seem to have large shapes they need to be healthy to really be a chameleon. Too much weight in them and they are challenged to move and live like a chameleon should.

I've seriously thought about getting a chameleon or other reptile lately. I kept a female veiled chameleon a couple of years ago and I loved her so much. She was one of those rare veiled chameleons that were extremely friendly and It at least felt like she bonded with me super well. She just exploded into blue and colorful greens whenever she saw me and she loved to sit on me and with me as I did schoolwork. She was the sweetest and I loved her so much. Just seeing videos like this where the chameleon is climbing around on sticks and branches just fills me with pure joy and nostalgia, it reminds me of her so much. I miss you a lot Molly

I have a lot about chameleons and there is nothing wrong with casually getting up to speed on the latest in husbandry discoveries (there have been a lot - especially with Veileds) while waiting for the perfect window of opportunity to jump back in again. I've got 2 species of chameleon. I've got a beautiful common Mediterranean chameleon. Very even temperament easy to handle and can be trusted. Also have a male veiled. Excellent video. I have two Veiled males and the older Ziggy is so friendly and hates being in his vivarium and literally runs out onto your arm when you open it. He can still be a grumpy guy though. My younger boy Frodo is a more shy and prefers to be left alone.

This video helped me decide which species was perfect to start with and when i actually went to the Reptile Store, I felt educated enough to purchase all the things my new Veiled needed! He seems to be acclimating quite well to his new enclosure but I'm still worried about his temperature and light schedule. can we get a video about proper lighting and how long to keep the lights on etc. ? Loved this video. Very informative for newbies. My first cham was a triceros quadricornis female that I stumbled upon in the pet section at a hardware store in Germany many yrs ago. I had her for about 9yrs before she died. She laid a few infertile clutches...she started crawling around on the floor and I placed buckets with dirt all around(she was somewhat free range) and she picked a bucket,laid and moved on. Thanks for the vid, totally cool.

Beautifully made video! Well organized and your voice is like Nat Geo quality! I enjoyed the video a lot that I watched it two more times and took notes. I am new at this and currently making the transition from aquariums (yes! Another expensive hobby). I was set on getting a veiled since the research plus what you video covers for being an “easy” species. Your video has me now thinking to get a panther cham. My plan is to set up the cage and foliage and let it get established. Once I am happy with the cage, I’ll pursue a male panther from a reputable breather. Again, great video and really learned a lot. We were gifted Cami for Christmas. She is a veiled chameleon. I really thought I would absolutely hate having a reptile in my house and I couldn't have been more wrong I absolutely love her!!! She was meant to be for my sons but I feel me and her get along very well as she won't go to them or with them but she comes out willingly to me. She will also let me hold her and walk around the house with her where she seems very uncomfortable with the children. Great video!! Thank you so much for the advice I will be looking for a bigger enclosure for her 😀

Marco Zamudio it would be wonderful if reptiles would be as close of companions as dogs and cats (or even just a little). But the best way to respect them is to acknowledge what they are and not try to change them. I do have to say, though, that letting go of everything I want them to be and opening myself up to learning about what they are has opened up a whole new world for exploring. They have an amazing world and I can’t see spending my time with them in any other way than figuring out the absolute best way to give them what they need to be as natural of a chameleon as they can. It has become a life long fascination!

I had my first chameleon when I was an army brat in Hawaii and it was a Jackson chameleon that my dad help raise and now that I am older I want to accompany one as well but I think I will go with a panther chameleon to start out because the females are beautiful. With that being said will a female be unhappy if she doesn't mate or will she be okay??

I recently got my first Veiled Chameleon. I was wondering how much I should feed my chameleon. He’s about 1.25 months old. I feed him about 6, 1/4 inch crickets once a day. Is this too much or too little? Thank you!

Feed him as much as he will eat until he is full grown (6-9 months) and then ease off to five food items every other day or even every third day. Obesity is a big problem in veiled chameleons so remember to ease off when adult size!

Hello! my name is audrey i am really wanting a chameleon but i have a big problem. i live in anchorage, alaska where tempuratures* arent the best and my house tempurature is kinda low and its very dry here although i do have a humidafier*. i am also 12 am i too young to own a chameleon should i wait? i am going to be vet when im older and i want animal experience. i want to work with reptiles. i own 2 dogs and a parakeet. is that a problem? what chameleon is best for alaska standards? if i get one and cant provide the temps for it and it dies am i a bad person? please answer if it is not a good idea to get one please let me know i dont want to make a chameleon suffer.

Audrey Groat a very active member of the chameleon community lives in Alaska. It is very challenging, but it can be done. The challenge is not just the chameleon, but making sure you have a constant supply of food! Low humidity can be taken care of by humidifiers and glass or solid side cages. Artificial lighting technology is to a point where even the long nights won’t be a problem. But it will definitely be expensive. Just how expensive depends on what kind of environmental conditions your house provides and you would be the best to know that. You might consider working with Pygmy chameleons as they are smaller and it is easier to create a total custom environment for them. You could do the same for the larger chameleons if you have the space and funds to do it on a larger scale. The pygmy chameleons might be a good first step to work out all the things you need to do to make it work. There are many things you will need to take care of to keep chameleons in Anchorage. It really will depend on how much of your time and money you want to devote to making it work. But it can be done!

You should care for more "easy" animal at first, like beardead dragon. I wanted chameleon but they are kinda hard to keep alive and happy. So I bough berdead dragon. I know they don't look like chameleon and they are not that charming but it's good for the start speccialy if this is your first reptile pet.
