God I loved tbc so much. It was the first time I went full hardcore wow (played original vanilla but only casually really.) The sense of progression you felt finally killing lady vashj and you could finally start working on kael'thas, or from archimonde to BT. I feel like TBC was the absolute sweet spot in wows history between "early enough that everything isn't homogenized yet" and "matured from the imbalance and inexperience of vanilla"
@IAmAlorel
@IAmAlorel 4 жыл бұрын
So much this. My perfect patch, all aspects of the game considered, is still 3.1 (Ulduar), but classes were already beginning to get majorly homogenised then (and pvp was DK/frost mage or die) - 2.4 is a close second, mainly because lower tier content never really got abandoned on my server so we still got to experience the whole of TBC throughout.

@@hydraulixx I'll give that there were great players that were not on 8 hours a day. I'm more speaking for those that do play 8 hours today and get to see all the content compared to then where you actually had to be good. Just putting in a 40 hour week doesnt mean you are good enough to see 40 hour a week rewards. Of course the latter of that doesn't ring that true when my guild charged people for content runs.

As a programmer for a large gaming company, it truly blows my mind that Blizzard didn't just have the source code for different versions ... This is viewed as one of the premier companies, yet they don't make proper point releases which have a centralised storage location? If someone asked me to get a build for our game from 2 years ago, it would take me just as long to retrieve that compared to our latest. Sure, the hardware on which we're running might give us some stick, and it will take some figuring out as we don't virtualise every point release ... but what the fuck Blizzard? If they didn't have that 1 random employee who still had a hard drive slinging around, classic WoW would've never existed :^) Fucking nuts.
@jasonr8967
@jasonr8967 3 жыл бұрын
Was it really gone or is Blizzard just BSing as some kind of marketing ploy? I cannot believe that a company with global reach, with thousands of game servers, with millions of customers, with dozens of renowned titles, or with decades of experience as a leader in the gaming industry wouldn't have the old versions of their games hidden away somewhere on an ancient storage array that only gets powered on when someone wants a trip down memory (quite literally) lane.

Yea, I can´t really fathom it either. I mean, SVN launched in 2000, and GIT a year after wow´s initial release, 2005. I don´t understand how they can develop without some sort of version control.

A couple months ago I learned that the Class Design and Balance team consisted of 1 person for more than one expansion, and no more than 2 o 3 for most of them. At that moment I couldn't believe it, and understood a lot of problems that the game had during it's life. After that I started digging and looking at a lot of videos and posts and the story repeats A LOT: less than efficient systems to do things, very few ppl for massive parts of the development process, etc (not even gonna talk about other more controversial stuff). So it doesn't really surprise me

I actually really like how in classic, the items found off mobs and given as quest rewards are something that can be useful later in your journey. It's like all these trophys and trinkets you've collected along the way are actually a useful part of your kit, something you would actually want. Rather than it being something only useful as a stack stick during the level got it.
@TheAssirra

The idea that flying ruined wpvp is bullshit because Outland was filled with pvp objectives in 4 zones that you had to be on the ground to contest so pvp happened all the time. Not to mention, it does nothing to stop the ganking of lowbies since you can't learn flying until max level. By the time you can fly, you're already 70 and probably have pretty decent gear so you're not exactly a ganking target to begin with.

@Salterino Kripperino I did play it, and I remember people fighting over the 4 points in Terrokar because those objectives had a timer so you couldn't just retake them whenever you wanted. Not that there's any point in replying to you since you already hate the expansion. And the decent gear part is more to the point that we were shitty at earning gold back then so you would have heroic gear a lot faster than being able to afford flying. Also "muh duhgens". I started in 2005, but I never got into raiding until TBC. I mostly ran with a guild that did Tier 4 content to gear people up who were going to move onto Tier 5 and up (Karazhan, Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon, and Zul'Aman). I learned how to raid heal and later main tank on my paladin as well as blasting away on my frost mage. Maybe it was how accessible getting into the content was compared to Vanilla, but I loved TBC and count it as my favorite expansion.

"Flying ruined world pvp" good riddance i say. World pvp is basically griefing.

Cringe. Pvp is fun when both particiapants are willing and able to pvp. Open world pvp is 95% ganks and high level griefing and torturing low level. There is no "honor" or skill involved.

I really hope they have the original overpowered raids to start with - honestly after seeing how easy Classic stuff was, it might be doable for the player-base this time around - then they can release the easier ones for phase 2 or 3 or something.

people say "flying killed World PVP"... Well, I remember I had a lot of fun oneshotting people off Mounts with my Arcane Mage and my Hunter back in the days. And the battles we had around the PVP objectives in Outlands were epic. People who say "fling was bad for the game" clearly were never there when we took off to the sky. Good times we had :)

All I remember from back then being in a very average guild was we needed to raid kara before we started farming heroic dungeons with ease. I just hope if and when they do re-release bc they keep the og difficulty of heroics

I recall starting the game right before TBC was launched. Then TBC came out and I was so focused in exploring around, it took me a million years to reach 70. At some point, I asked a friend if I could join a Black Temple run with his guild, guess what, I couldn't. Had no idea I had to be attuned. I was (still am) a complete noob but man, I loved it all. What a great game, what an amazing expansion! PS. Having a full-time demanding job unfortunately doesn't allow dedication in WoW. I did manage to get the "Hand of A'dal" achievement much much later (no judging) and almost cried. When Ashes of Al'ar drops, I believe I can die in peace.

i might be alone in this but I really don't like constant balance changes over the course of many patches, my ideal solution would be probably just as much work for blizzard however, which is rather than leaving everything on the latest state, with all the content nerfed, I would like them to craft a version which dealt with some of the balance problems that temporarily plagued TBC before being fixed in the next patch, but without nerfing the overall content. the idea of all the raids being there from the release and there being a long race to clear everything sounds absolutely amazing. a marathon, rather than sprint, for world firsts, would be so cool. all the heroics, and keys and attunements at their original difficulty
