The idea of reusing a character model and calling it a "digital actor" is the most creative way to hide laziness

I don’t blame them though. With all the crunch nonsense that can go into film and game production, having a convenient character model that’s ready to go with barely any rendering or shit like that is probably a godsend

Funny thing about the live Action Mulan. I work as an English teacher in China. And I did see this in the theater here. Having seen the original several times I cringed through pretty much the whole movie while my wife, who had never seen the animated movie said she thought it was pretty good. Then we went home and I showed her the animated movie and she realized that the live action one we had just watched was pretty bad. lol

The Mulan live-action movie was actually a pretty good Wuxia martial arts fantasy flick. China cranks out a hundred of them a year and I watch them occasionally. What it was NOT was a decent live action version of a Disney musical. They just were not THINKING when they put this together.

There're multiple live action Mulan are pretty good but Disney version is the worst Non of the writers have much knowledge about Chinese culture, almost the whole cast beside the father are just bland. Their reason remove Li Shang and war musical are plain stupid,one of the main antagonist being a Witch(what?) and she just a worse Dark Vader The fact there're alot more culture flaw in Live action than animated Mulan that it's not funny

I've heard something interesting about Anastasia and Don Bluth's others Disney-style movie, Thumbelina. According to some, when those movies were shown to a test audience there were versions that featured the Walt Disney Pictures logo before the movie started, the people who thought they were made by Disney gave them a better reception that those who were aware that they weren't made by Disney. I think it kind of shows how well aware people are about Disney's brand recognition, nowadays people kind of know what to expect depending on the animation studio, like Pixar, DreamWorks and Illumination

The reason why Monster Trucks had such a big budget was that they had to redo the cgi for the movie because the monster original design was terrifying, so scary in fact that when they showed to a test audience the movie most kids ran away screaming and crying. This forced the studio to redo all the cgi and reshoot part of the movie in order to make it much, much less scary.
@MyRegardsToTheDodo

@@MyRegardsToTheDodo I think that they didn’t have a chance to do that. They probably invested so much money into it that they only could invest more money into it in order to finish the movie and release it in cinemas hoping to recover some of what they spent.
@MyRegardsToTheDodo
@MyRegardsToTheDodo Жыл бұрын
@@emanuelepolloni4002 No, they pretty much knew that they would lose money on this, even before they had one year of expensive reshoots and digital editing. And then they released it in January, which is basically the month where movies go to die, without any advertisement. If they had scrapped it before the reshoots and digital editing started, they could have shelved it and cut their losses, instead of throwing more money at it.
@emanuelepolloni4002
@emanuelepolloni4002 Жыл бұрын
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo And then they would have lost EVEN MORE MONEY since there were probably some "sponsors" behind this movie that would have wanted the cash they gave the studio to make this movie back with interests. Plus there have been many times where studios make insurances on movies they know will flop in order to "recover their losses" or wrote them off as tax breaks or something similar. So in the end while it bombed hard the company probably still recovered some of their losses thanks to some good old fashioned Hollywood Accounting.

Treasure Planet was that Disney deliberately screwed the animation team by moving the movie to a November release when it should have come out during the summer. Meaning it had to compete with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, it never stood a chance in hell. On top of the fact it was poorly marketed (the marketing it got made it the opposite of what the movie was actually about). It's the rare one out in this case where the movie is genuinely good in both story and animation but due to external reasons it failed. Had it come out in today's day and age it would have done a lot better. Props to Cats, it managed to not only terrified me but also traumatized and scarred me for the rest of my life. A feat no horror film prior managed to accomplish.

The John Carter film was based on the John Carter books by the man behind Tarzan. This might be something kinda weird to say, but thank DiamondBolt for defending the Cats cgi people! I ended up reading a lot about the making up of it just to understand how some thing like THAT was made, and felt really bad about them; so many people just blame the cgi departament for it being bad while the studios made their lifes hell.

Not to be "that guy," but most of the supposed rumors about Cats' VFX woes came from one anonymous thread on Reddit. A lot of it (such as the "buttholes" thing) isn't even true, and it frustrates me that people not only blame the VFX artists but also Tom Hooper and the rest of the filmmakers for stuff that was made up by the internet for lulz. Also it had more than one company working on it, so the "they took 6 months to do the trailer but then only had 4 months to do the whole movie" part doesn't even make sense.

I expected the cats movie to be just godawful at a Mission Bay, Auckland cinema. Instead, the film actually gave me a couple of moments that are both good and unexpectedly funny. Fun fact about Pluto Nash: I live in an area where they would frequently test screen movies before the official release, so you could stand in line and get free tickets. This was the only test screening I went to where literally half of the theater walked out of the movie. So it was so bad, that even free tickets couldn't convince people to watch it to the end.

I would personally rate a lot of them higher than movies that come out today cause they were different and unique. Ps: I watched like almost all the older movies that were shown in the video and was shocked and kinda sad to see some of them were flops. Maybe this is why a lot of studios now days stick to the usual stories and not branch them further.

One of the problems I remember with Mortal Engines was I think a lot of fans of the book got turned off because the main protag (Hester, the girl with the red scarf) is described as having incredibly visible facial scarring, and it's kind of a key character detail and plot significant detail but the film adaptation toned that down massively. I think it also had the problem that some other book adaptations get where the books are popular, but in a niche way and are kind of hard to market to a mainstream filmgoing audience so you run the risk of creating something that pleases no one

"It was 2001 and video games looked like this" *proceeds to show PS1 Hagrid, the most beautiful man known to mankind* As someone who's actually seen Mars Needs Moms...I can confirm that it's worth the hate. Like how could Disney look at that gross mess and say "Yup, this is cinema"? It feels like a Nickelodeon movie, not a Disney one! Also, I adored Turning Red and it definitely didn't deserve that treatment. I find the controversies surrounding it silly, like the period scene doesn't last long, you can just skip it (and MrEnter's review is...something). Or how it only appeals to a very specific demographic...I'm not Chinese (I'm Latino and our parents act similar) nor Canadian and yet I still enjoyed it! The animators at Pixar put their heart and soul (pun intended) into these movies, and the least Disney can do is treat them right.
