1:40 The male copper (Paul Page Hanson) who done the plodding feet for the Bill, his hairstyle reminds me a bit of Sgt Matt Boyden.

Dave Quinnan could sometimes be a piece of work in his early years.

His scripts were originally written for PC Pete Ramsey, who was very much a piece of work. The writers made him a more sympathetic character from Series 7 onwards.

Dave Quinnan could put his foot in his mouth so to speak, As could several other noteworthy characters. But then it was drama I guess and drama has to be created.

My partner who lived in Vancouver, BC, Canada, often told me that alcohol, open or not, is not permitted in the passenger cabin of a vehicle. Apparently, it must be carried in the boot (trunk) or luggage compartment. I don't know how accurate that is, but I do think it is a good idea regardless.

Viv never had any time for domestic abusers, but after being wooed by Hooper she learned that you should never judge a book by its cover. I hope Hooper got booted out. Nasty piece of work.

Another one in the Made in England series was set in a high school. Jim Broadbent played one of the teachers and the actress who went on to play PC Polly Page was one of the pupils. Imagine Scum being set in a school and you'll get the idea.

@@woohooboy, Yeah, I know. TV executives are always under pressure to emulate the competition and raise the ratings. Corporate committees kill creativity.

Yeah the bill became just another soap opera in the later years ,the homo series with Luke Aston was just the pits

I think that this level of 'soap' was appropriate. The crime featured was of DV gone to the extreme, with the victim becoming the perpetrator in the eyes of the law and the storyline also highlights that those that hit their spouse/partner are from all kinds of backgrounds. It also shows how a capable police officer like WPC Marshall can be affected negatively by the experience of being a victim of domestic violence.
