She's horrified because her parents and society have been lying to her and telling her some fairy tale rather than the simple truth. If she'd been taught about these things in a natural fashion all her life there would have been nothing for her to be horrified about. It's like kids being eventually told there is no Santa, coupled with the parents obvious discomfort with the subject itself.

If you act like something is gross or uncomfortable while explaining it, your child is going to naturally mirror your apprehension, and from there out, view it as an uncomfortable subject. Be straight with kids. Don't instill fear where there is no fear to be had.

The igloo image came from the child and it is a wonderful image to describe the womb and the vagina, especially for a child to understand. Clinical words, while useful to give a child at some point, do not carry, for them, what the word means/ how it works. I also liked the use of 'took off all our clothes, under the blankets, got warm and did a "special dance" ' for the same reason. And yes you have to be careful because you don't want children to worry about what the difference might be between dancing and "special dancing" and it is perfectly possible to make babies while wearing clothes. Nor make a child wary of all pockets ... those were the parts I found least 'uncomfortable'

Yes, because using just the correct terms and not putting it into terms kids may be able to understand better is a much smarter move.. Hm. Like ForceTheShadow said, if you actually paid attention, he used correct terminology and later used a metaphor so she would be able to actually understand what they are trying to tell her.

Addie Wilson Actually there's some schools that teach this at as far as first grade. Why? It helps them understand the risks more early then when they're old and in their teen ages lowering the number of sexually related crimes and activities including teen pregnancy and other things down much more than others. If we started doing that in the US, the future children would have less as many issues as we have now.
