"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation," reads Henry David Thoreau's immortal line. This applies to our sexual lives as well, and in this talk, Jesse Bering explores how our lustful desires for those we cannot have quietly shapes us as individuals. Jesse Bering, Ph.D. is an author, psychologist and former director of the Institute of Cognition and Culture at Queen's University Belfast. He is the author of Perv: The Sexual Deviant in All of Us.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

The most useless talk I ever heard. No value whatsoever, misleading title, and just plain pointless.

Definitely is! I was curious what he had to say about unrequited love. Instead I got a crash course on homosexuality in the modern world.

This video has the wrong title! At no point does he talk about unrequited love, only sexuality and social perception.

Agree that the title is completely misaligned with this great talk. Judging by many comments below though it appears there are many insecure people about and probably always will be.

Well I am in unrequited love. I don't know if it is beautiful or nadir. I am just enjoying my life.

I came to find out why a girl doesn't love me back, not to learn about why men bang horses.

Very brave and informative. What if your desires ARE harmful if acted upon? What should one do? This is an honest question.

That depends on the situation. If you feel like your desires are so strong that they're worth a life change and you cannot be happy otherwise, then you should consider acting upon them. But it also depends on the kind of harm you're going to inflict, who's going to be inflicted upon, and if the amount of harm is time-dependent. An example of that would be if you're a married homosexual man with children. Would acting upon your desires just affect your wife or would it also interfere with your children's lives i.e. you drifting away from them at a critical age etc.. Each case is different but you should never suppress who you truly are because of society. Anyone who loves you and appreciates you as a person should be understanding enough of your decision if you do it openly and honestly. Just try to do it in a very political and easy way. It's never wrong to put yourself first, but also try to ease the pain of those around you and never disconnect from them completely. Sooner or later, they'd have to accept it and move along. Hope that can help!

2.50. Online search for gay pornography. Haha! I watch gay porn and I am not gay. It's called curiosity. I can watch many many things online, and research them to the point of obsession, yet it doesn't mean I identify with those things or necessarily want to do them.
