I wondered about the window grate as well until someone pointed out that after the first two times, the Grabber never fully enters to the basement. The basement door opens into the basement to the right. From where he was standing, the Grabber couldn't see the window because the door would block his view. Finn was really lucky that the Grabber's brother showed up unexpectedly for an extended stay. This caused the Grabber to put his normal "method of operation" on hold. This was good for the story because the audience doesn't have to see the pedophile in action. That would have been too horrifying. It was enough to know it was around the corner. The Grabber's extended absence gave Finn plenty of time to be alone and work on his escape attempts. Such a damn good movie. I'm so glad you guys reacted to this. I can't wait to see you guys react to "X" and "Pearl."

I'm not always onboard with these types of ghost-centric horror movies, but the concept of helpful ghosts and a living person causing all the problems was refreshing. The thing that really stood out for me is the acting skills of the two main kids, Mason Thames and Madeline McGraw were phenomenal as Finney and Gwen.

I'm happy to see Joe Hill's books adapted to the big screen, especially when it's done so well. He's easily almost as good as his father, except Stephen King is a book-churning machine that never stops putting new stuff out, while Joe Hill writes at the pace of a normal human being. I also love how they seem to have agreed to write some stories in the same universe and Joe Hill's books sometimes mention events from Stephen King novels, and some of the most recent King novels sometimes also mention events from Hill's books.

In the original short story, the Grabber is a part time clown (a la John Wayne Gacy) Because the film versions of "It" were so fresh in everyone's mind, they switched the Grabber from a clown to a magician. I actually think the magician is scarier in this instance.

DNA testing wasn't very good for along time. Even in the 90's it still had room for improvement. It wasn't really until the early 2000's that it really has advanced enough to make a bigger difference.
