Rosen talking about mistakes, and be grateful for what you have, like once you've blundered your queen, you can no longer blunder your queen... Oddly profound. And then of course, unless you make a new queen, and then blunder that😂

It's a funny sentence for sure. But phrased in a different way, it makes a lot of sense: "You can't control the past, you can only control your actions in the present."

Yeah no that's just a completely different sentence. Though certainly could be a good insight to take away from the matter. Nice try though.@@rivetace

@@Zoomjah If you make a mistake, it's in the past, and you can't control that. You can only control your actions in the present, so focus on not making any more mistakes. How's that?
@Zoomjah

@@rivetace I understood your first sentence, this just sounds like a more wordy version of your first response. But if I was to rephrase what Eric said, I'd say something like "Mistakes happen, but we should avoid repeating the same mistakes, and appreciate what we already have."

I had a hard time understanding how someone could be a professional chess player in the 1800’s. I imagine it must have been a spectacular sight to be seeing this sort of ridiculous chess played live. “Hey chess guy, I’ll give you a gold coin if you lose your queen by move 3 and you still sweep up the mess for a win”.

The Hippo is one of my favourite defences. I think it often works well even in normal games against strong opponents, as peoples' natural impatience makes them over extend. I also like the way the opponent usually commits the king one way or the other and you can determine your middle game plan accordingly.
