Brian Hess it’s ironic because he appeared in the variety shows and the revival series in the 80s.
@whewfan3 жыл бұрын
@Brian Hess Reed also didn't think someone Bobby's age would genuinely be interested in selling hair tonic... seemed dated, like the 50s. Still, you have to admit that the tonic getting onto some white rabbits and passing them off as orange and white is quite silly. Also, in terms of doing the reunion shows, Reed did love the cast, and enjoyed working with them, so that was the main motivation of coming back, and he did love doing the variety hour because he saw it as a chance to sing and dance professionally, which he hadn't done before. As for the Bradys getting married, he said he felt that HE needed to give the brides away, not some other actor.
@thefurrybastard19642 жыл бұрын
@@whewfan Add to that the reunion shows were more dramatic than the original show, something Robert Reed had been fighting for throughout the original run.
@whewfan2 жыл бұрын
@@thefurrybastard1964 The Bradys was an attempt to do a more dramatic take on the show. Reed acknowledged that some of it worked, but a lot of it didn't. He felt the show would've been better as a continuing series rather than a different story line for each show. (For example, taking more than one episode to resolve Marcia's drinking problem or Bobby's accident that left him in a wheelchair (I had wondered if Lookinland was in an accident in real life and really needed a wheelchair, but no... that was for the show.) Even behind the scenes, the original Brady cast was mocking some of the storylines.

@@ravenel2 I agree that Shirley Temple was outdated for a show in the early 1970s. It would be like a sitcom today using a famous child star from the 1970s or 80s. But the hair tonic thing and the changing of the hair, to me that's pretty funny. I don't understand why Robert Reed didn't want to do the episode. It's rare people want a serious sitcom. I never cared for Patridge Family, the other 60s/70s family sitcom show that was more serious, more adult.
