I remembered another scene in this episode - where Mrs. Brady is knitting in the family room and Greg and Marcia come in and say they want to talk to her about Alice. Mrs.Brady says "Alice? What about her?" Then Greg and Marcia confess what they did that made her leave. Mrs. Brady gets mad and tells them they were wrong. Marcia says, "We're sorry Mom. We all want her back." THEN, Mrs Brady says "I'm afraid 'sorry' won't help! Sometimes when you push people too far, you just can't bring them back again!" I have never forgotten that line, or that lesson. Sometimes it doesn't take much to damage a friendship, and sometimes people won't forgive you if you've done something really hurtful. I've tried to always remember that.

I remember this episode very well. When Alice overheard the kids complaining about her and got upset, and later when she was crying at her friend's apartment - I could have cried. I think we can all relate to situations like this, where friends turn on us and how hurtful it can be. I felt so bad for Alice and I was mad at the kids. I remember Bobby saying "Remember how we all used to like her?" Or later in the episode, when Alice told Mrs. Brady she was leaving and Mrs. Brady was shocked - then told her that she "was like a member of our family. We all love you very much!" - that truly touched me. I guess that is a sign of a well acted episode - when the episode and various scenes have an emotional affect on you. Quite honestly - I give Florence Henderson, Robert Reed, and Ann B. Davis, and all the kids a lot of credit for being so believable on screen during this episode, as well as many others.

@f430ferrari54 жыл бұрын
@MrRibby88. I think at the age of 6 and all in our youth we felt Kate was “mean” and maybe a “bitch” but as an adult I see Kate as “guarded”. She is someone who got too close to a family and got really hurt and burned by it. She’s the Alice who never returned to that family. This is why Kate refuses to get close to anybody. She just does her work. Kate showed a lot of kindness in letting the kids know she ran into Alice at the diner. Alice was a great housekeeper. She even sacrificed herself the first time she left. She wanted the boys to start going to their new mom and when they did she just felt like she wasn’t needed anymore.
@melissacooper42823 жыл бұрын
@@f430ferrari5 I can see why Alice encouraged the boys to start going to Carol with their problems. At the beginning of the episode Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore Bobby refused to let Carol fix up his scraped knee. IN my opinion this was and is QUALITY TV!!!! Now in 2018!! TV could not be much worse. But, when the Brady Bunch was on tv I was a very small boy and just about every show on TV was QUALITY back then, which even includes the commercials. Even the Commercials were intelligent. Now we have prescription drug commercials that are very deceiving, we had commercials about Chewing gum, cereal, soda, cars, and to think of it there were only 10 tv stations back then and TV was so much better. How sad is that!!!

Richard White Agreed! We only had five TV stations when I was growing up in the eighties and it was way better than now. Even having to adjust the antennas was worth it. My bro & I watched all the Rankin Bass Christmas specials, there were Movies of the Week, movie theater movies on television, series (such as the Bradys) in syndication after school and first-runs at night. The word was that Robert Reed strongly opposed this episode, claiming that this could never happen between Alice and the Bradys, and that their relationship would never be the same even after she returned. As a result, he refused to appear. But this only made the episode more complicated, for why would Alice up and leave without telling Mike, for whom she had worked for so long? (I guess it was implied that she DID say good bye to him even though he was not in the episode). I believe the only other instance in which an actor refused to appear in an episode of a show due to personal beliefs was when Lisa Whelchel refused to appear in a Facts Of Life episode when the character of Natalie Green lost her virginity. (Lisa is a born again Christian). I give credit to actors who stand up to producers due to creative differences or personal beliefs.

That was a dirty thing the kids did to Alice! If Mike was there he would have punished them!

Robert Reed refused to be in this episode because he thought that it was a stupid plot that Alice would quit all on account of the kids being mad at her and that the kids would suddenly think that Alice isn't their friend anymore. Quite frankly, I share his opinion.

Robert Reed was nit-picking with this episode.

Which is a shame cause I would hav loved to hear his stern lecture to the kids, Alice was his original House Keeper before he married Carol
