Rassie Erasmus is the first coach in my mind that showed me that rugby is a game of twenty three men vs twenty three men across 80plus minutes....his 6/2 split bench was absolutely brilliant....as was his ability to recognise south africas strengths and playing to it....the bok plan was revolutionary and inspiring and peaked at the right time.

Somebody on that panel said they didn't see South Africa beating Wales let alone beating England because they had "plateaued" yet here we are. I'll never forget that. Southa🇿🇦 #strongertogether

As a South African, I honestly feel that this win is bigger than '95. In 1995 there was an air of expectation in SA & it was almost as if we were destined to win it. After Pieter Hendriks rounded Campese in the opener & effectively shut the Aussies out, there was this feeling of belief & dare I say it, expectation. At this years' tournament & especially heading into the final, it was a different ball game. Despite all the bullish pre-match comments from SA supporters, we were collectively nervous & not as confident as some might suggest. Defensively we were always going to match if not better any side at the tournament but besides that we looked one-dimensional & flat footed on attack. Rassie knew this & his strategic planning was monumental. Besides the 6/2 split throughout, Kolisi tracked Underhill & Curry the entire Final & effectively neutralised them at the breakdown & the win was engineered on forward dominance, defence & a collective buy-in from the players. It may have looked like a change of tactics from the Boks, but it was essentially more of the same executed differently & as TB says, the old adage of dominance & defence winning Cups doesn't change. Eddie Jones completely nullified George Ford 's tactical kicking prowess by avoiding the lineout (and I think an admission of such by replacing Ford early in the 2nd half), which contributed significantly to ENG's downfall. Dare I say it, but with the same players & a different coach I don't think the Boks would've got the same result.

Tony brown said it best .... Eddie planned everything around beating the all blacks .... but he forgot about the Powerhouse Boks .... fair play.

May I say as a South African and massive springbok supporter I have massive respect for New Zealand and the All Blacks. You guys are the most humble in victory and defeat and we strive to perform consistency in winning like the all blacks. The difference between you guys recieving the bronze medal, gratefull for the 3de place and England being very disrespectfull and rude winning the silver medal just shows the quality of New Zealand. Thanks for the kind words in this show towards our country. We cant wait for the next AB boks game

Everything Tony Brown said was bang on. Forward domination and defense has always won world cups. NZ coaching staff missed the mark.

This is easily the most cohesive Springbok team I have ever seen. After watching England's silver medal reaction and how they completely ignored their fans at Heathrow airport I'm convinced that harmonious team culture will play an even greater role in future world cups.

Won the cup on 3 different continents, won the rugby championship cup and world cup in the same year, lost a pool game but still won the world cup and Win the world cup every 12 years!! GO BOKKE

Another thing is the Springboks never forgot that high tackle by Owen Farrell in 2018 and it was personal for the guys. Therefore England should have anticipated a level of physicality out of this world. Don't piss off the Springboks is the lesson that should be learnt here.

Great show! South Africa is pumping, even songs were sung in our Parliament and the airport was crazy when the Bokke arrived with The Cup. I think the AB's were gracious in defeat and very classy in the third place playoff. (Unlike England not putting their medals on and not greeting people at the airport like the AB's did). Looking forward to Superugby and especially that 100th test between The Springboks vs The All Blacks!

Sitting in my office watching the opening scenes with the SA captain and crying. 🤷‍♂️ just wow.

This programme highlights that AB class is embedded in NZ culture of great values and sportsmanship. At the awards Rassie correctly said "we aspire to be like the ABs..." - he was talking about consistency, but we know it's also about commitment, grit and loyalty. I love rugby and the graciousness of the English (Hask, Tinds, et al) and the Kiwi's (JW, JK, MM and the Breakdown team) raises the bar off the field for us in SA.

Don't forget the guile of the coach. The Boks showed nothing before the final, so there were no plays for opposing coaches to study.

God I want to dislike New Zealand, because of our rivalry. But the simple fact is I can't. We are bound by our love of the game, and a rivalry that few other sports can match. A Springbok/All Black test is the ultimate game of rugby. Nothing compares. We love you New Zealand. You are our brothers in arms. See you next year.

The springboks are becoming like the All Blacks now. They’re finally adding aura and meaning back into their jersey, going back to the traditional way they play and mastering it just like the All Blacks never stray from their traditional style of counter attack. Rugby championship, a World Cup, and only 1 loss in the year. Incredible.

Respect to Jeff and his team there. Its always great to hear our boys complimented but you folks did it in a manner that just lifts the standard of commentary. Thanks mesdames et messieurs see you in France.

The biggest factor that contributes to the Boks success is not the ability to play rugby well, what the world love to ignore is their firm belief in their Creator and that they realize that they can't achieve without the help of their God.

Great to see the Boks leveraging their win by sharing great messages, their country needs this unity building experience probably more than any nation at the cup. Unfortunate for ABs we didn't have that inner development to prevail in the high stakes must win moments even though we have at least as much outer potential in terms speed, skill and strength as the Boks. It seems experienced players perform better under high stakes pressure situations than those who are new and in form but don't have that seasoned high pressure experience.

The feeling on the ground here in SA is far better than it has been for a long, long time.

As a South African, that's why I love New zealanders and Australia. We all are foes in Rugby and Cricket, but we have respect for each other. Yes we talk trash about each other but we always support each other. I just watched a video about the final, where the Irish tried to talk down South Africa rugby world cup win. I was lucky to see Mills play for Kelstons Boys High at 15 at the inaugural World Schools Rugby festival in Zimbabwe 1998 at Prince Edward School. What a player! Don't ask about the results for the mock exams that year, with rugby on tap all day.

Good show, guys. Tony spoke many words of wisdom. I personally think that the selections the All Blacks made had a big impact in the semi's, but hindsight is always 20/20. Well done for them to accept the Bronze Medal with class. Maybe they can teach the English a little bit about sportsmanship. So much for a Northern Hemisphere resurgence. I don't see Ireland and Wales being as strong next year. Speaking of, a new era of All Blacks awaits next year. As a South African supporter I'm very interested to see what will happen in the Rugby Championship. New coaches for the All Blacks, Wallabies and Springboks.

My theory ... Rassie played a fairly risky tactical game to reach the final - his strategy was to not give the game away (the potential of the team) ... he did not mind loosing the match against the AB's ... he had a bigger plan. Do you recall the first 15 min of the game? The boks were all over the AB's and then suddenly started kicking possession away. From there it seemed the boks staggered from victory to victory (apart from the minnows) but yet made it to the final, still with those infuriating kicks giving possession away (remember the warm up game SA had with Japan? Rassie afterward admitted that the team had orders to kick possession away to test themselves to the max). When it came to the game that mattered, Rassie played his real game and blew them away. My theory. He is a very shrewd coach.

I am a die hard Springbok fan. I however know that any team which wins the All blacks had a great game and the All blacks had a poor game. As a South African I know the best team in the world is still the All blacks. They had the most wins and the least losses. No team ever can keep on winning and never have a loss. You guys still have the best team in the world.

The overseas thing works for South Africa because they've got much higher number of professionals plying their trade in South Africa. We need to let players leave to allow a steady flow upward to the top table, this is something Rassie noticed while coaching Ireland. This way we had players playing top European rugby and top super rugby, he had a far larger sample of players to pick from then say if you're Australia and you're only picking from the 4 super rugby franchises. Im not sure if New Zealand has the player base for this to work, they have built a good number of super rugby franchises that play excellent rugby and they have a steady flow of talent that is enough to supplement those teams with a handful leaving for overseas each year. Therefore the system is implemented through those teams and the players all get a shot. If they allowed players selection and they left they would probably lose half their great super rugby players to lucrative deals overseas. The black jersey is the only thing that trumps making coin for kiwi players

Beauden Barrett should have stayed on flyhalf. He was the most dangerous flyhalf in the world. Creating opportunities left, right and centre. But then was moved to fullback. I am not from New Zealand, but I always feared a game where he was at flyhalf.

Can any persons who has experience from the 87' and 91' world cup, including the South African National squad at those times,let me know how South Africa would of faired if we were allowed to join the world cup? All Blacks come 3rd by miles after beating the eventual winners in their pool match. Results in full independent enquiry which will no doubt lead to a fantastic plan based on solid foundations. Wallabies never look like a chance, come 'who cares we were that far behind' and Rugby Australia launches their own in-house assessment into why RA isn't responsible for the demise of the Wallabies (and rugby in Australia more broadly). At least the cup stays in The South. Well done Boks. Well done.
