It all came down to this. After four years of building and two months of battle, the 2019 Rugby World Cup reached its final match. And what a way to end, as a magnificent South Africa saw off England to take the title. So how did the Springboks win the final and clinch this years' World Cup?

You have no idea what happened here in South Africa when we won. It was unbelievable. Cars just driving up and down the streets honking at one another celebrating together. Random strangers hugging, greeting, high fiving, dancing on the streets. It was unbelievable. For the first time in my life it felt like we were united. Rugby really is one amazing, special sport.

@@zachlongandbeyond2797 Same can be said for New Zealand, but that is not the way it works. Just looking at the statistical difference between SA's and England's World Cups respectively, SA outscored them overall by 72 points and 11 tries; SA had the leading points scorer (Pollard), the second highest try scorer (Mapimpi) and less tries against than any other team in the tournament. I know that England did not play the game against France, but it is hardly likely that they could have caught up this deficit had they done so. The one thing you did do brilliantly was the quarter and semi finals, so credit where credit is due, but to win the cup you need to win the final.

The fascinating level of insight and analysis consistently provided by Squidge, and communicated so clearly while entertaining and informing, puts the professional pundits on the mainstream broadcasters to shame. What you offer is so well researched, edited, and scripted, it really is in a class of its own. That you manage to achieve this while fending off legal onslaughts over copyright, and producing yourself without any logistical back up from a larger organisation is nothing short of miraculous. Big respect Squidge, you should be earning big bucks from your genius. The fact that the powers that be in rugby and broadcasting think it’s better to have you on the outside, rather than inviting you in to vastly improve the product that they offer, demonstrates their shortsightedness and failure to adapt to a new media landscape. Keep battling away, and keep up the great work. Rugby fans all over the world appreciate your efforts, and have a better level of understanding about the game they love because of your outstanding analysis. Thanks for making the effort.

@Bella Noir it's south african word for slums basically. So worse than project houses, since most these houses aren't even governmental registered. Sometimes the residents of townships will make their houses out of bricks, but quite commonly they use sheet metal as well (especially for roofs.) i'd say about 30% of township houses are governmental registered. It's not as bad as India's slums for example, google Khayelitsha if you want an example of a south African township

Being born in South Africa in 1990, I didn't understand at the time what it ment to win the 1995 World Cup, 2007 I was 16 in Boarding School so we were cut out from the rest of the country but this World Cup I understood what it actually ment to win the World Cup as a nation. When you play against South Africa in a Final you not playing against 15 players, you playing against a country of Millions behind them. There is always something happening in South Africa everyday which is Negative, but for once we were happy as a nation. We all smiled together. Our Captain didnt bring home a Cup, he bought home Hope, Hope that no matter who you are you can always live your dreams. Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika (God Bless South Africa)

@islamisthetruewaytogod6812
@islamisthetruewaytogod6812 Жыл бұрын
Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way), don't help either. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them)… Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Salam (Peace)

Squidge - thanks for this amazing video. Here's something you might like. Apropos your theories for that all-forwards-maul (19:30 onwards). I have another, even more long-shot theory than yours. To the best of my knowledge, Rassie scored his first try for the Springboks on a year-end tour in 1996, playing against the French Barbarians, wait for it, of the back of a all-forwards-maul. As you will no-doubt know, these were the days where a standard move was for penalties to be tapped by the scrummy, who would pass it to a pod of forwards - the first man would turn his back (like Vermeulen did here), and the rest of the boys would go "spine inline" and drive for the line. This link, at the 2-minute mark, may just be it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/arCpe8pzmqfGf58.html ...Imagine Erasmus tried to emulate his own first try and turn it into the 'Boks first WC Final try... Chaps, please like so our man Squidge will see.

Watching that final was one of the toughest games I've had to endure as an England fan. It was almost like someone had taken those 15 players that did so well against the All Blacks, and all tournament, and made clones of them, but set the accuracy to about 75%. Which in International rugby, where if you're 5% off your level, it can mean defeat, is huge. The result is less hurtful than the performance. However, I'm over the moon for South Africa. How much it means to the country, how much it means to the players, fans, everyone, they did great and certainly saved their best til last. Still don't know if I can sit through it all again because it's just painful to see how despondent and lacklustre everything England did was, but how much of that is down to Bok brilliance versus England's futility with ball in hand, is a question for people much smarter than me. Well played South Africa, deserved and earned. PS thank you Squidge for not ragging on how shite England were too much, and keeping the bias above the belt. You've been class all tournament, and great content.

I think the way that Squidge put it is pretty accurate - there was something off with the England team that we won't ever be able to understand from the outside. Absolutely we (SA) played out of our skins and it would have been an epic match if England were firing on 95% (well it was pretty epic for SA supporters anyway) so I totally empathise with how difficult that must have been to watch. Hopefully in the next few months there will be some discussion from inside the England camp as to what was going through their heads during the game - how much was the result of SA vs the event etc. My kiwi mates all thought you were going to smash us, but I wasn't so sure. Commiserations - I think this team of yours will do good things, still really young and Eddie is a good coach (despite getting outsmarted here by Rassie). Any team that can do what you did to the ABs is special.

@@Narapoia1 "Everybody got a plan until they get hit in the mouth." - Mike Tyson. I've watched this game several times in the last few weeks and my analysis is that South Africa won the game by winning at the gainline. More often than not, we (South Africa) tackled the England players behind the gain line and *stopped them* there. When we had the ball and they tackled us, we managed to eke out an extra yard, foot, furlong, millimeter. Whatever it was. We also prevented them from recycling the ball quickly by competing at the ruck, allowing us to set up our defense and then really "attacking the space" on defense. This made the England players get the ball under pressure, which cuts down the time they have to decide what to do, effectively cutting down their options. A lot of England's mistakes were due to Bok pressure. Don't under estimate the way we played as well. Keeping England in their half for a lot of that game was crucial for getting into their mental game. If you feel like you've been playing defense and under pressure the whole time, it's hard to get your tail up when it's time to attack. And when you do, ... mistakes. No matter what though, i'm glad we didn't face the same England that the All Blacks faced the week before.
