The 2019 FIDE World Cup is taking place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from 10 September to 4 October. The 128-player knockout tournament features most of the world's best players. The total prize fund is $1.6 million, with $110,000 for the winner and $6,000 for first round losers. The finalists will qualify for the 2020 Candidates Tournament that determines Magnus Carlsen's next World Championship challenger.
The format is six knockout rounds of 2-game classical matches before a 4-game final. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. If the score is tied the players then play two 25-minute + 10-second increment rapid games, then two 10+10 games, then two 5+3 and, finally, Armageddon, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4 but a draw qualifies Black for the next round. You are not wrong pronouncing it like "Timur". It is an old Turkish name, meaning "Iron" (Demir). And even though chess community keeps calling them "Azeri", they are not Azeri. Majority of Azerbaijan, including Teimour and Sahriyar, are Turks, not Azeri (which are a different ethnicity living in Iran). People of Azerbaijan also speaks the same language as we speak in Turkey. Yes they speak Turkish. The difference is more or less like American English & British English.

This was a really inspirational game on how to improve your position slowly it shows me why I often suck at chess cause I'm not so patient and want to force matters. Countless times I've ruined clearly advantagous positions by this. I still have to learn that chess is a marathon not a sprint. Maybe I should look into other games....
@limegreenelevator
@limegreenelevator 4 жыл бұрын
You've recognized what you still have to learn. That's a positive step. Now it's just taking the time to learn it. (And yes, there is something frustrating about needing to practice patience in order to learn patience - I have the same problem - but it's just something that's going to come by doing it over and over.)

same but it would have felt wrong if he had won considering the way the game was going.

Wonderful performance from Radjabov. Hoping MVL still manages to reach the candidates. It would be a real shame if he wasn't there. Such a great player

17:08 -- If it's any consolation to Maxine, his position was already hopeless despite equal material, so it wasn't the rook blunder at this point that was the determinant factor. The engine has White up at least +7 no matter what Black plays. For example, Rf6 (the best move), Rg5, Kh7 (Black's best continuation requires leaving his rook under fire from the bishop), Bxf6, Qxf6, Kf2, etc. Black is basically immobilized protecting his isolated pawns while the White king is free to move up and infiltrate.

at around 7:50 can anyone explain to me why white wouldn’t just capture black’s bishop? it seems like with Be7 white is just giving up the bishop for no reason? Help me out here if I’m missing something please
