The 2019 FIDE World Cup is taking place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from 10 September to 4 October. The 128-player knockout tournament features most of the world's best players. The total prize fund is $1.6 million, with $110,000 for the winner and $6,000 for first round losers. The finalists will qualify for the 2020 Candidates Tournament that determines Magnus Carlsen's next World Championship challenger.
The format is six knockout rounds of 2-game classical matches before a 4-game final. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. If the score is tied the players then play two 25-minute + 10-second increment rapid games, then two 10+10 games, then two 5+3 and, finally, Armageddon, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4 but a draw qualifies Black for the next round. The way these grandmasters kept threatening checkmate and somehow getting out of the toughest positions is why i liked this game. Usually fancy sacrifices tickle my balls, but this was just straightforward defending with little sacrifice of pieces or positions

This game was fantastic, both players had its chances with Radjabov having the initiative most of the game but that Ba6 was something else. In the end, Radjabov is finally able to execute his main idea of Qh6 to finish with style this beatiful game.

Watched an agadmator video from two years ago, just when he got the first 1 USD donation. It’s remarkable how the channel has improved with time! Back then it was a lot of ”and then we have....and then we have...”. Now there’s analyses of the moves the players didn’t find, and that within hours of the game! I’m an excellent subscriber and I keep watching.

This is why having a plan is even more important than finding the best dynamic or positional move. If you see capablanca saga you see that capa creates a plan in all of his games not just playing the best moves for better position.

This game reminded me of Fischer-Spassky at the 1970 Olympiad, Siegen, where there was quite a bit of tactics involving pawn pushes to open up the board. Spassky in his usual middle game judgement was superior in finding the best moves. The resulting win for him unfortunatly forced Fischer to become even more focused and to concentrate stronger when the next met in Reykjavik in 1972.

After 34.Re7 why not 34.(...)Qa3? If 35.Qh6, Qc1 and you trade queens and then check with the rook on c1?

13:18: I think Rc2 doesnt work. White continued with Rxf7. Black cant grap the Rook because Qc7 check and Mate in two. Black can grap the pawn on a2 but after Re7 or Rg7+ you cant hold this position.

If white continues with Rxf7, Qxf2+ white has to trade queens Qxf2 and after Rxf2 your rook on f7 is hanging

@@strat0caster124 thanks for the answer. after ... - Qxf2, Qxf2 - Rxf2, Rg7+ is the Rook save and you can grap the black rook.

Instead of Re7, Radjabov could have probably played d6! As far as I see it, it's game over as rc2 can be met with d7 and re8+
