Capable Staple tool is very handy! just used it for the first time in removing/replacing the staples from a bronze age book. Not as hard as i thought it would be once i got over the mental hurdle of disassembling a comic. my only problem was I snapped the tool in half accidentally when i was reforming the staple, no need to apply too much pressure. luckily 2 tools were included in the purchase!

Just grabbed a couple. Have been a little shy around staples, so time to get over that. Am a little concerned with some of the wear I've seen around a lot of centerfolds when removing these, though. Slow and steady on this. Would like to learn more about electrocleaning and putting together an ozone chamber (parts list, process, principles, etc.). Not sure if those are intended for an advanced arm of an upcoming course, but would be grateful for a little time to go over these with you at your convenience. Thanks Rick!
@ImmaculateComics2 жыл бұрын
Well if anyone can do it Edward, you can. I like to snake the staple around from the inside of the book if I want to reduce staple hole wear. Using a tool to ensure the correct staple spacing greatly reduces the effort required to get the staples back in.
@johnnyribs34252 жыл бұрын
Nice Rick! Anything to make that process a bit easier is great. BTW I have a couple small flat head screwdrivers thinnest being 1/8" wide, largest 1/4" that work great prying up the staples from the book.

any insight into how disassembling, cleaning staples and reassembling comics for cleaning will affect the CGC scoring (ie - blue label vs purple label)?
@ImmaculateComics2 жыл бұрын
For myself I have never had anything other than a blue label. However I’ve heard different stories from others. I think the key may be to be absolutely certain you use the same staples and do not scratch them
@vcowens89 Жыл бұрын
What are the pros and cons of the different thickness of the capable staple tools? Thanks.
@ImmaculateComics Жыл бұрын
The only real universal difference is that the large one is more difficult to break. But some people with larger fingers prefer the larger size as well. for most people, the standard capable staple tool is the best bet.
@KollectingKaos2 жыл бұрын
Having a longer cut out the thickness of a staple might allow both sides of the staple to bent at the same time as well as aligning them with each other.
@ImmaculateComics2 жыл бұрын
Thants a good idea! I will put it into my list of revisions! I hade a cute along the entire part previously but 1) it was very difficult to see the staple holes, 2) the part was snapping and breaking along the sore mark in my "rugged use" testing. and 3) it takes so much longer to laser etch our each part. 80% of the time to cute each part is the detailed cross-hath raster in of the line cutout for the staple. I don't want it to melt and pour into the hold I am trying to etch out so I perform 24 light ablative passes in different patterns to keep it cut out exactly right and to 0.1mm precision. you don't need to know all of that manufacturing information but I will try to find a way yo make that line longer. thanks for the ideas!

@@ImmaculateComics Just ordered the staple tool and Tic Attack, and looking forward to the tool for the square bound book. I blew out the staple on my X-MEN 101 and fixed that, but the staples don't match since the original had curled staples. The one I fixed is now flat and looks really odd at the centerfold. Looks like that's gonna' change!

I hope you get a patent on it. You’d be surprised how someone would capitalize on an idea like this..
@ImmaculateComics2 жыл бұрын
I think you are right. But its such a difficult item to design, but so easy to copy that I don't think I would ever be able to enforce the patent on it unless it was adopted by a huge company. some people have already blatantly stolen my images and videos to sell copies of my products. I've had no luck in stopping them. classystephanie.com/products/snapclean-comic-cover-ink-remover?_pos=3&_sid=fd1602082&_ss=r

Rick, what is the difference between the standard and the premium. I can tell there is a size difference in thickness. Is one better than another?
@ImmaculateComics2 жыл бұрын
The premium is 3/16" and the standard is ⅛". the standard is easier to make the staples fit into correctly because yo can adjust them through the other side of the hole easier but the premium are more durable and less likely to break when you are pressing them down hard. A few people asked me for a thicker one but I never had any through breaking them myself.

Just out of curiosity, why would you remove a staple? To swap it with a non rusted one?

There are several reasons, one is to wash the cover jn a comic book washing machine. Another is the electro plush the staples. Yes another is to swap leaves!

Is the idea to ultimately fool grading companies to think staples haven’t been tampered with?
@ImmaculateComics2 жыл бұрын
Thats an impossible question to answer for every person in every situation. quite obviously there are a great many reasons to remove and replace staples in books
@starchild63472 жыл бұрын
@@ImmaculateComics It’s the only reason I can think of! 😅 Great work… love the channel.
@ImmaculateComics2 жыл бұрын
@@starchild6347 I see, that makes sense, In that case, you should probably be aware that a great many people do work on comic books and never submit them for grading at all. The idea of "fooling" someone necessarily implies deception or subterfuge. I've been doing this work on staples since before there even was a CGC and in my opinion the grading companies "just got here recently" even though its been 20 years. Here are some reason to use the tool, even when you aren't submitting for grading: 1) harvesting staples by year of book 2) electrocleaning staples 3) staple soldering and repair 4) rust removal from paper under a staple 5) cover cleaning 6) mold killing and removal 7) spine roll correct 8) pressing at high pressure to avoid staple pops while removing even the finest imperfections 9) left casting of pages 10) spine repair. These are the top ten reasons that I use the tool, myself. I like to use it especially to reduce work hardening and fatigue in the original staple while keeping the book whole and original. And I don't send any of my own PC books in for grading or slabbing. There are many more reasons too, naturally. Welcome to a larger world my friend, I hope this reply isn't too long!
