Lyrics
All of my life I have been waiting
For just one boy
And all of my life I have been waiting
For all the joy of having
someone that I can call my own
Who'll come to my side when I am all alone
And now you are here and I've found a whole new world
Has opened for me
A world filled with joy
A world filled with all your love
Eternally
for you say you're mine
You'll love me all the time
Night and day
Come what may, and all of my life
You'll be my own
I just want

You have to imagine young, 19 year old Karen singing & playing the drums. She did all the drumming on the Ticket to Ride album. Sung so beautifully& flawlessly, she was the angel of 🎶 Music! I absolutely love this song 😀

Great reaction, Jaybriel. This selection from the Carpenters' debut album features Karen on electric bass as well as drums - at least on the original album and single (B-side) mix. The original bass track was replaced in the 1987 remix. The other track from the "Offering"/"Ticket to Ride" LP featuring Karen on bass is "Eve." For very early Carpenters, try Karen's solo recordings with the fledgling Magic Lamp label in 1966, "Looking for Love," with "I'll Be Yours" on the B-side. Although these are credited as solo recordings, they're both Richard Carpenter compositions on Joe Osborn's label, so they represent the embryonic Carpenters sound. For other selections on the 1969 debut for A&M Records, try "Someday" or "All I Can Do" (the latter of these two is really different from the typical "Carpenters sound").

@@jaybrielakoi7747 A couple movies, actually. The one referenced above is the TV movie that aired on CBS-TV in January 1989, "The Karen Carpenter Story." This made-for-TV biopic was produced with Richard's and the family's cooperation, which he came to regret afterward. The other movie is something of a cult hit, Todd Haynes' "Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story" (1987). That film was an arthouse favorite in the late '80s, featuring Barbie dolls as the actors and making unauthorized use of the Carpenters' recordings. The copyright infringement is what forced that film to be withdrawn from circulation.

Yes. Thank you for mentioning that. I'm late seeing this reaction and commented about her playing bass on this track. Thank you for mentioning "Eve", too. I'd love to know what happened to her bass guitar. I've read that it was a Beatle Bass, in the Beatle Bass style, though I've never seen a picture of it. They loved the Beatles, so that makes sense. Ha! She loved Ringo Starr, too, mentioning him as one of her drummer idols. So sweet! She's all of 19 years old here. Amazing!

Thx! The first thing I noticed was that sweet 3/4 time. Then those chord choices. Then those string harmonies. Then the time change with the drum fills! Yes it did seem to end unresolved. They’ve ended that way in other songs as well. It’s an interesting technique!

Wonderful reaction! Offering/Ticket to Ride album is incredible beginning to end. It has a very different feel than any of their later works. Lots of styles. The songs where Richard sings and Karen does backing vocals are some of my favourites. Particularly “Get Together” and “Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even Sing”.

Love to hear you react to ‘Happy’ (if you want a surprise ending) from their 1975 Horizon Album. A song they added to this album but originally recorded much earlier in their career. It was not penned by Richard but the arrangement is of course by him and Karen plays drums and bass on it

I love that song! It's one of my favorites. P.S. I've read that A&M sibling Daryl Dragon, of "Captain & Tennille", eventually assisted Richard with the synthesizer sound on a later single, as fellow Carpenters fan Calvin Murty mentions below. It was the song "Want You Back In My Life Again".

Karen also did a short "remake' of the song in her 1980 music music music medley... both versions are incredible.. karen originally did not like her original version because she had a cold, the 1980 version karen older and more mature is more "delicate and her voice refined" but still incredible moving....

Electric Guitar with a tremolo effect, just not very pronounced ?. You can hear a similar sound on CCR’s Born On The Bayou and on Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and The Shondells. Bo Diddly used it a lot too…

Since you love Karen so much, I highly recommend you check out Linda Ronstadt. Her and Karen Carpenter are frequently ranked together as the two most amazing female vocalists of the 70s - even of all time. Linda’s voice is different from Karen’s in that it’s very strong and powerful and can belt out notes, while still having the same warmth and richness of tone as Karen’s. Some good songs by Linda to do are: Tracks of My Tears: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hb98htmJvtbDZYk.html Someone to lay down beside me: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z-B_n8WoxLi9eqc.html Desperado (live): You’re No Good Blue Bayou

@@jaybrielakoi7747 hope you will do some reactions to Linda and her biggest songs on the channel. Her voice is truly top tier just like Karen’s, with that rare special tone and quality that is very strong and clear, and warm/rich/full. She is one of the rare artists who has recorded and had success in a wide variety of genres and styles during the 60s, 70s and 80s including even Latin/mariachi (she’s half Mexican, half German). You should look at her on Wikipedia and see what she’s done. She’s a treasure and a rare phenomenon of a voice like Karen was. Sadly, today Linda has a form of Parkinson’s and has lost all ability to sing.. So thankful though that we have her voice preserved in all her recordings.
@SayItAintSo4real

@Jaybriel Akoi Karen definitely had the ability to belt out, but they were going for a different and unique sound with "Carpenters" and they achieved it. Her friends, including Olivia Newton-John, have mentioned through the years though about Karen's uncanny ability to mimic and sound like other singers at times. She could do a lot of different things with her voice, including mimicking the vocal and physical comedy of some of the greats (and her idols) like Lucille Ball & Carol Burnett. She loved them! But for the musical group "Carpenters" she stayed with a sound that no one else was doing at the time. And honestly, here we are 52+/- years later, as I type this, and no one has yet mastered an imitation of Karen Carpenter's singing voice. There is a British singer who comes close, in my opinion. But, no one sounds like Karen Carpenter. It is amazing! I so wish she had lived long enough to branch out into all she had wanted to do. She wanted to sing, dance, and act on Broadway as well. And by-golly she certainly had the talent to do it. Sigh. Life is strange sometimes.
