The Carpenters At the End of the Song Reaction
1.Very dainty, reminds me of the Little Mermaid Song under the sea
2. Lyrics are great. One thing I like about oldies is the lyrics are so much easier to understand than current popular music.
3. "That you should start singing again" are really nice lyrics to end things off.

Lyrics
They tell me
Somewhere this life isn't crazy
But I've traveled the world far and wide
And I say they're wrong
Don't sell me
Stories that music's a lady
It's not when the singer's alone
At the end of a song
At the end of a song
There's no one
After the last note is played
Only the memory stays
Then even that fades away
And there's nothing so hard
As convincing your heart
That you should start singing again
You told me
Nothing could change perfect lovers
But like every promise you made
It broke before long
It's lonely
Falling away from each other
But we've come to the last of your words
And the end of a song
At the end of a song
There's no one
After the last note is played
Only the memory stays
Then even that fades away
And there's nothing so hard
As convincing your heart
That you should start singing again

Jay,. This was pretty nice. 🎶🎶🎶👍. I hope you keep going, another reactor I watch is having to slow down recording because of his work hours. 🥰🥰

Thanks for this reaction. I agree that it has great lyrics. Another Carpenter/Bettis selection you should listen to, and one that was written in the style of the Great American Songbook, is "Look to Your Dreams," also from the "Voice of the Heart" LP. I think you'll like it. It's the final number from the album, and since this was released about eight months after Karen's passing in 1983, the fade out with just the piano (on the album version) is pretty heartrending.

Ohh the fade out at the end. When it's done well I love it. If it's not done well I hate it. Carpenter/Bettis is a great combination. I'm surprised I don't hear more people idolizing that Bettis guy like they do Bacharach.

@@jaybrielakoi7747 Bettis was the lyricist, so the closer comparison would be to Hal David, but yes. The fade piano on Look To Your Dreams is sad and lovely. But for prescient spookiness, check out the fade-IN reprise of part of A Song For You that closes the album of that name, coming off the end of Road Ode. It's chilling... Why aren't there lyrics like Bettis' anymore? Heh. Guess...

Great song and great album. I truly love this song. Karen’s voice is like velvet. You are correct, very much a Carpenters song. The songs she recorded w/o Richard can be found on KZfaq. If I Had You is one of them, which I personally love.

She did that album with Phil Ramone instead of Richard. It has a couple of songs that would have easily charted had it been released at the time. If I Had You, If we Try, My Body Keeps Changing My Mind. Check them out under Karen Carpenter Solo Album here on KZfaq.

Whew. This one is a hard song for me to listen to, given how heartbreaking her short life had become when it comes to true love in her life. Just heartbreaking. All she ever really wanted was a family of her own - a loving husband and some kids.

This comment is 2 months late, but if you don’t already know, this song was cobbled together only because Karen died, and the vocal is only a ‘work lead’. It was a reject song that was probably never going to see the light of day. It’s also one of my favorites from that album. 👍🏻

You really should also start doing Linda Ronstadt. She is epic, and Her and Karen are very frequently compared and ranked together up at the top of best female vocalists of the 70s. Please check out her Wikipedia page. Linda has sung and had success in more styles/genre than any other artist. She has a strong, clear, rich tone in her voice, like Karen; and can belt out songs which was not Karen’s strength, and that’s what makes their voices different. Despite that, her an Karen are frequently compared. If you’ve ever seen the animated film ‘An American Tale’ with Feifel the mouse, she sings the song Somewhere Out There in that movie. You should her songs of Linda’s like Someone to Lay Down Beside Me Desperado You’re No Good Tracks of My Tears Just One Look as well as her Latin/mariachi songs from Canciones de Mis Padres (She is half Mexican/half German) She covered so many genres and sounds amazing in all of them. She is also the reason The Eagles exist, since they began as her backing band.

I was hoping you could check out karen carpenter voice on a vintage sing remake from the 40s that Richard redirected into more modern w vintage. I believe it was made famous by the female andrew sisters called " I can dream, can't I?

I think Jaybriel has done that one...one of the few reactors who has. Had Karen lived she'd doubtless have made many standards recordings...and (cf. Rod Stewart or Linda Ronstadt) they would have sold like crazy, too. I Can Dream Can't I is stunning.

Please do ‘Maybe It’s You’ from their 1970 album, it’s a good one. You also have not done their major songs off their Made in America album like ‘Those Good Old Dreams” “Touch Me When We’re Dancing”, “want you back in my Life Again”

Well Jatbriel, I’m back with another Tori song. Not a Carpenters song as Karen died before she could sing it. Dusty Springfield sang it on Richard’s “Time” solo album. Tori was invited to the Carpenters 55th Anniversary Celebration in April 2024. She sang two songs, Yesterday Once More and this one went first. Something In Your Eyes. Tori wasn’t happy with the resulting recorded sound so when she got home she recorded a “Studio” version. The first song she gave herself “Producer” credit for. I believe The Medley should have been the same but that was earlier. The video portion are scenes and photos from the Church where everyone sang. (Where Karen’s funeral was held) She synced her performance up in parts to her new recording. Enjoy. Joe kzfaq.info/get/bejne/abCAbKZ_2J-9hmg.htmlsi=0giN0zBNt1D3HwGt .

I want to love your channel and really like you your personality and charisma. The song selection is terrible bro. There are literally thousands of songs I believe your audience would enjoy seeing you respond to then this. I've seen your video list some are great choices but the lions share are not. Trying to help you as I would watch more but can't endure this. Sorry.
