This really shows that they had a great sense of humor.

My dad was a fan of the Carpenters, and I remember hearing this bathroom break song on his stereo in our living room when I was about 4 or 5 years old in the early 1970s. I thought I had imagined this song until now.

Back in the days of 8-tracks, if you wanted to hear a song that was at the end of a particular section, you had to listen through that whole section to get there. My older brother and I loved this piece so much, and I can remember the ka-chunk, ka-chunk, ka-chunk of going past part 3, part 4, and part 1, so that we could get back to Part 2 and listen all the way through to the end when they would sing this again. And then we would giggle.

Me and my sister did the same thing with that 8-track, on this big old console stereo my folks had in the living room.

Great memories! In college, I worked the radio station overnight, alone. I used this when I had to take a break, segued into the 20-minute version of Layla...

you missed what I was saying Kelly... calling Karen's tone a "Beast" is a compliment in the highest order... it means she's the Best, Untouchable, a Pure vocalist... as a kid I was a huge Carpenter fan... I was also very good friends with their producer Jack Daughterty...

Back in the early 70s [72 and 73 particularly] we used to play this on the radio in Toronto just to be able to time out the hour to the news at :00. Perhaps we did it a touch too much but the brilliant humour demands a little 'respect'. Karen was one of the very best.

maybe Take 6 as a group could execute this harmony with perfection... but Karen's tone was a BEAST... i don't know if it will ever be touched...EVER!!! that's just my opinion and i don't think i'm wrong on this one.

@ Gizardofmars. Yeah, on the LP that this song originally came out on there is a little blurb about Richard taking this theme from a very short vignette from the early 1700's or late 1600's from some Viennese or German composer and just changing the words. The song is 300 years old. This arrangement is only 40 years old. It's also the same with either "Invocation" or "Benediction". I know that Benediction is from the LP Ticket To Ride. I can't remeber about Invocation.
@joes99542 жыл бұрын
interesting that Richard just re-used a song from the 17th or 18th century yet can now claim it as “his”. Nice deal they have there.
@kelmo335510 жыл бұрын
Knowing who you are and a little bit about your background I can respect your comment to a degree, but to make that statement means that Richard was also in error. He was, after all, their musical arranger in most, if not all, of their projects. Her intonation was actually quite good. They always blended well together. The perks of a strong sibling relationship. No disrespect intended but I think you need either your hearing or your eqpt checked. but then again I'm only a truck driver...........
@MrSweelinck2 жыл бұрын
I always wish there were more of the Invocation, Benediction, Intermission, Aurora, Eventide songs on their albums. It could have been kitsch, but also a great fun marketing thing. Kind of like the Pixar shorts at the beginnings of their movies.
