Thinking of you n praying for you and your heart break. I understand that pain. My father’s been gone 26 years and it never ever goes away. And I just lost my mother in law this past January (whom I been closer to than my own mother for the last 15 years). I’m 38 years old and losing parents never easy. Bit like envy and Gia said, speak of them and keep pics around and do things they enjoy. Music they like. Movies. Etc. Keep their memory alive. Feel their spirit with u. It Is there. Look for their symbols & signs and journal them & take pics of them. It’s little angel visits and nice to be more open to them bc they will communicate more clearly and often. Just keep faith in the Lord and keep your heart open

I lost my dad when I was 19 years old. He was 63 years old. My parents had been married for many years. I have five older siblings, some of which were married and had kids of their own. He had a full long, happy life. Not long enough, but still a very good life. The one thing that gives me the most comfort and joy now as a 32-year-old woman reflecting back on my dad is that he came to know God he received the gift of salvation and I believe in my heart and I thank God that I will, see him again in heaven.

Amen! I love this. I feel the same way about my dad who passed when I was 14, 22 years ago. He had accepted Christ before he died and as an adult that brings me peace. I always wondered how Christians who have lost loved ones who didn't accept Christ feel. What comforts them?

So I’m pausing right before the email of the week to leave this comment bc I know yall are about to turn up lol I lost my Dad less than a month ago. I can’t even find words to describe how I feel. I can’t even believe it’s reality all the way yet. I miss him very deeply and very dearly to say the absolute least. I really appreciate the timeliness, the maturity, and the realness of this episode. Thank you for this topic. It was therapeutic. Sending our girl Gia a big virtual hug. Okay, Whoo 🥹 now let’s get to the email and laugh lol

This episode hit home. I am taking care of my mom after a very serious accident that happened the end of March 2024. I was filming a tv show, had just lost my main job so i was able to be home. When you see your best friends in pain. My father or my mom I drop everything. When you see your parents in pain. You step up immediately. They are my world. So as adults you have to prepare on stepping up for your parents: cooking, cleaning, doctors appointments. You have to take care of your people. They were here from the beginning so it's part of the life cycle and its a rite of passage. Everyone should have that talk about estate and life preparation too. The redlight special.....nahhhhh lol not on my heaviest days I feel like Frankenstein. I would rather please my boyfriend/husband and take care of my needs after the cycle. Its going to be a horror scene. LMAO. There's other ways to please someone too.

So true I lost my mom at 19 she was only 47. My dad made it to a week before 81 its been two years almost. Both sad but my dad got to live a full life, my children knew him, he walked us down the aisle so both sad but definitely a different experience.

Hey Gia & DJ Envy! Thank you ! Gia, you look amazing & beautiful after 6 children. Gia, you're truly blessed to be fit. Grieving your parents. My Father passed at a younger age. I was very young and didn't understand. My Mother passed in her 60's It hit me so hard! If my Mother had lived to 80's or 90's I would have been okay with her transitioning. To me it's an age thing when your parents pass away. Envy , your parents are in their 80's that a blessing ! 🙏🏾🙏🏾 I agree with Envy on taking care of your parents when they get older.

This episode got me, tomorrow is going to make 10 months since I lost my mom. I needed Kleenex along w Gia! I get what you were saying about feeling like your parent who are dealing with dementia feeling burdensome is sucker ish, but we have to acknowledge how difficult it is and if you don’t have the right resources care giving burnout is so real. Not to mention you’re mourning your parent twice bc of the gradual decline although none of that compares to when they’re actually gone 😢. I did struggle during the midst of caring for my mom with her cognitive decline but I was also in midst of pregnancy and a break up with no support. I say all that to say I still feel guilty when I have felt frustrated or had an attitude bc now I see that moment was temporary and this death is forever 💔

I lost my grandmother when she was 90. I lost my mother a year later she was 65. For both I knew that day was coming. It still hurts like hell and like you mentioned. Everyone grieves differently . I don’t think that you can ever really prepare for it mentally but I do think the weight is different then something that is sudden like when my 17 year old nephew passed away in December. That just hit different.

The email with the red light, girl he is not bugging. My husband is the same and for a long time I would talk him into it but honestly he doesn't like it, its gross to him. So over time I started to respect his stance and during those days I just gotta chill. Plus it's always worth the wait when the river is done running. 😉

Its a good convo but what if you pass before them? How will they cope? It's good to plan on all sides. Unfortunately, it's something that sucks, I wish we didn't have to but the best thing is leaving behind good memories, creating memories specifically for events like death that your family can look back on like voice recordings, videos, keepsakes, etc.

Generational wealth topic- redlining in the 1950’s 60’s 70’s + blocked generations from gaining valuable assets. This is something I think about to this day. How African American families were denied the right to integrate into the mid-class neighborhoods and how it was state sponsored. Read “The Color of Law”.

I have listened to this podcast for years but it just dawned on me that Envy is an only child with SIX kids... My son is an only child and when he was young, he told me he was going to have FIVE kids because he did not like being the only child. He now has one son and I have asked him to just let us love on that child and not to have anymore. (Kids are expensive.) However, if my child had it his way, he would definitely have more children. Thinking about death is the only time I wish my son had a sibling.
