It depends on what gender affirming care is exactly. Hormones and surgery? That's obviously going to do more harm than good for teenagers who don't continue being trans into adulthood (devastating harm). Is gender affirming care just therapy where you get to the bottom of why you feel how you feel? Then yeah, I can definitely see how that would improve teenagers' quality of life.

Thank you for this question! WPATH guidelines prohibit anything other than puberty blockers in gender-affirming care for minors. Not even hormone therapy is recommended until questioning minors reach adulthood. When puberty blockers are discontinued, the endocrine system takes over as before. I can't speak to every minor's care, but it is likely therapy is involved as well. Regarding surgery, I was well aware I needed it by the time I was 12. Would it have been harmful to get it? Not for me. That said, agreed - if a minor were questioning, received irreversible gender-affirming care, and then decided not to transition fully, that would likely cause distress. But that is exactly why WPATH has published a Standard of Care since 1979. wpath.org/
