I worked in the hospitality industry for years. Valerie Harper was by far the kindest, genuinely nice profesional celebrity I ever had met. ❤

I’m 50 years old and have just discovered Rhoda for the very first time….had never seen one episode. This show is so good! It’s really funny, heartwarming, and true to life. It’s become a little ray of sunlight in my life.

Penny, same here. Although I had heard of the show, I never watched it when I was young (I'm your age). I just binged the series and really enjoyed it. Very bittersweet.

MTM didn't produce bad shows.

Same here! Just discovered and I was amazed to know that Carl is the voice of Garfield and Brenda is Marge Simpson! Anyway does the show have a finale? Does Rhoda finds love again? I was so upset she got divorced.

Valerie must have been in her mid fifties when she did this show. She still looked very attractive for a mature woman.

Poor Valerie. A sad and terrible ending for a beautiful person

She died at 80 years old after a very full and successful life. She isn't some tragic figure and doesn't need anybody's pity.

I'm probably one of the few guys who actually liked Valerie Harper more than Mary Tyler Moore. I'm still a big fan of that series and I prefer Rhoda to Mary.

It always fascinates me that Valerie Harper doesn't actually speak with Rhoda's New York accent.

Valerie Harper is one of the most positive people on Earth. She has brain cancer, and yet she's upbeat. I feel terrible about Mary. It seems she'd been going downhill for a long time.
@ZviJ16 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but Harper has another edge that less fortunate individuals lack -- a husband who's a personal trainer by trade, who makes sure she eats right on a daily basis and exercises regularly and drives her everywhere she needs to go, etc.

Dave…Mary had Parkinson’s and that is and was (probably for the foreseeable future) a death sentence and trust me, having a father who was diagnosed with this… these people are struggling with their faculties.

So strange..... 25 years after Sally Jesse had this program, virtually no-one around the globe is even aware of a Rhoda television show. Amazing!!

For some reason, they aren't showing the old shows. Sometimes I think it is intentional, because they don't want the younger generations to know that people can have a different set of values than the ones being pushed now.

It was the 70s Feminist culture which despised males (can you imagine one of those with a son?). All those feminists who loved seeing Rhoda surviving and striving without a husband would've been ticked off and they would've stopped watching the series.
@fscap8112 жыл бұрын
@@marinazagrai1623 I don't understand your comment. Rhoda having a husband should have been no surprise to any of those "feminists" as her wedding occurred in the 7th show of the first season and then went on to be one of the most popular shows on TV. So if anyone was unhappy about her being married, they shouldn't have watched from the very beginning, not waited 3 years to become disgruntled.
@marinazagrai16232 жыл бұрын
@@fscap811 I didn’t try to imply that this was sane…meaning normal. What I’ve heard was (interviews etal) from feminists of that era) that the true feminists didn’t want to have anything to do with the male gender.
@fscap8112 жыл бұрын
@@marinazagrai1623 I understand what you mean. I guess getting married and all the associated traditional things probably annoyed women who rejected those things. Thanks for your reply :)
@marinazagrai16232 жыл бұрын
@@fscap811 Ijust didn’t explain better…my mom saw first hand what feminism meant for women who didn’t live in the US. I grew up in Communism and my mom was born right before it arrived. I have to explain this…when Communism arrived, the Party was in charge of propaganda (Goebels would have learned from these guys)…everybody has to work so socialism can show up Capitalism. So when Feminism arrived it was really old news because there had already been a generation of kids who didn’t see their mothers because they had double duty with the family and their work. Sorry to go on…

Mary Tyler Moore was beautiful too but OMG who wouldn’t want to look like Valarie Harper either?! They down played her beauty and her figure- they just didn’t dress her to accentuate what she had going on!!
