@@andrewlatourette428 if you watch how he holds it, it's under his chin on his chest. He's holding it parallel with his body. Someone teaching you to play fiddle will teach you to rest it on your shoulder perpendicular to your body. He also has a unique grip on the bow. That's a man who taught himself to play. He's also a fantastic guitar player. He's just a great musician. I bet he could play about anything he wanted to play.

I heard of an interview where someone was talking to both Charlie Daniels and a classical violinist. The violinist starts making elitist comments about how fiddlers can't really play the violin or something, and Charlie picks up his fiddle and plays a piece of classical violin music perfectly. Then challenges the violinist to do what he does. I don't know if it's a true story or a tall tale, but I'm inclined to believe it.

I love his playing skills,I can't play,but I sure love to watch him play his fiddle,I love the tang of it an in this song,it's just golden to my ears.

I've heard BOTH versions on the radio. Guess they played the unedited version by mistake when I heard it on there. ANYWAY, I've always LOVED this song and will ALWAYS LOVE THE CDB !!! I saw them at the JUNE JAM hosted by the band ALABAMA back in 1986. (Think that's the correct year.) When they started playing "The Devil Went Down To Georgia) I was way back from the stage (outside venue) and I held up the ALABAMA flag. Charlie saw the flag I was holding up and he commented on it ! I forget what he said, but, I could tell he was talking about my flag cause he pointed straight at me and they put a spotlight on me - it was late in the afternoon and getting kinda dark. And, having been an ALABAMA FAN for so long, since ALABAMA started it, I had been wanting to go to the June Jam, but we could never afford it. So, we saved up for it and my Daddy went to that June Jam with me - the one and only JAM I ever went to ! It was a time I'll never forget even though I can't remember all the details. Had a wonderful time for the three days we went to enjoy all the other events going on. 😉

Terry, Apparently Roots was fictionalized just to attract viewers. I learned this recently while watching these guys watch a Thomas Sowell video. You might want to check it out. Sowell is such a great historian and teacher.
