Lovely tag idea. I know very little about chess, but it seems like its well thought out. Added the Winter King to the TBR. I love a good Arthurian retelling.

Great original tag Aaron! Chess is far too strategic and thoughtful for me but I think I’m reading a book at the moment that would cover almost all the prompts, Matilda by Tracy Borman, it’s got them all!

Oh I'm pretty terrible at chess but I still love it, I enjoy watching the professionals. I always think of the Normans as the baddies, the wicked French coming over here and killing our king, that does sound interesting though.

Great ideas, and I've learned something new about you today, I didn't know you were into chess 😊 my kids have been playing together for a while which is cool. I kept thinking of the wolf hall books for several answers. I have the first Robin Hobb ready to read. You've also reminded me of the winter king trilogy which I've wanted to read for ages! I didn't realise until I just looked up his bibliography that he'd done the last kingdom and sharp. My dad loves his books, I'll see if he's got the winter king 😊 Thanks for the tag, will absolutely do it!

Playing from an early age is key to being good at chess, I have only been playing for maybe five years so I suck. Bernard Cornwell is definitely a Dad author but his books are all fun.

Great tag, Aaron! And thanks for tagging me -- I'm looking forward to giving it a go. I don't think I'd really noticed Bernard Cornwell before finding BookTube, but the more I hear about him, the more I want to give his books a go.

Most of my answers in my head as I listened to this related to Robin Hobb. 😂 I'll have to think outside the box a little bit and formulate some answers. Thanks for the tag! And congrats on your first original tag!

Fitz is a good pawn, there are castles, strong women, animals, I'm pretty sure some priest type things too. It fits them all!

Thank you for tagging me. I've gone through my books and I think I've got my books selected. Will try and get it done tomorrow morning before I head out. PS - I also love small village/parish type books. Love Father Brown for the same feel and PG Wodehouse.

I didn't want to overthink this, but here are my final choices for the tag: Pawn -- Mansfield Park --- Fanny Price Rook - Blandings Castle and Elsewhere Knight - The Last Unicorn Bishop - The Three Musketeers -- Cardinal Richelieu Queen - Through the Looking Glass -- set on a giant chessboard , with the Red and White Queens, Alice starts as a White Pawn . She must travel across the board and reach the right position to become a Queen. King - The Shadow King - a biography of Henry VI. He was captured by the Yorkists more than once and ended up finally being killed by them.

Fanny Price is a great one! I was going to choose The Last Unicorn myself but I don't have a physical copy. I really need to get round to the Alice books and Three Musketeers, I have fancy editions of both.

It was Barchester Towers, and not The Warden, that started with the death of the bishop. That’s the one I was thinking about for this prompt, anyway.

Oh you are right! In my head it was related to the problems of Septimus Harding. Barchester Towers is my favourite of the series too.

Fellow Robin Hobb fan here and also keen on village/parish and cathedral based books. My answers to your tag: Pawn : Dragonflight - Anne McCaffrey Rook: Uprooted - Naomi Novik Knight: The Wind in the Willows - Kenneth Grahame Bishop: Close Quarters - Michael Gilbert Queen: Moon Called - Patricia Briggs King: On Royalty - Jeremy Paxman Huge fun doing that!
@AaronReadABook
@AaronReadABook 3 ай бұрын
I need to give Dragonflight another go, I started it once but something to do with the grammar annoyed me. I love Uprooted, have you read her dragon books? They're great. When I worked for a newspaper I helped Jeremy Paxman set up his ipad and he was very nice 😁
@cathrussell2426
@cathrussell2426 3 ай бұрын
I'm a big fan of Paxo and his books so am in absolute awe that you've had that connection with him. How brilliant! The first dozen or so of McCaffrey's dragon books are good but after that they're not so great. My favourite is The White Dragon. The background story that turns them into sci-fi rather than fantasy is fascinating and worth reading for that I think. I've read several of NN's dragon books and liked them a lot but it's another series I need to return to, I might start at the beginning again. I really recommend Close Quarters by Michael Gilbert, it's an excellent churchy crime yarn... and Richard Coles' new vicar crime series which I think I've mentioned to you before. I keep meaning to say that I do love the screen-shot manips you create for your posts... so funny.

This is a fun tag. I'll give my answers to the prompts since I was thinking about them while I watched. #1 Wolf Hall - Cromwell as the lowly character #2 The Dark Tower by P.D. James #3 Animal Farm #4 Framley Parsonage #5 Olive Kitteridge #6 The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett
