Aww man I love Q! TNG was definitely my series growing up

I do love TNG but it doesn't feel as consistent as DS9 is. I really loved series three of Picard which just felt like a giant homage to TNG.

I've heard the Peter David novels are pretty good. Both of those sound fun and I've heard Q-Squared is a really good one! I'm still trying to figure out what to read for BookTrek and TNG and TOS are the ones I'm most familiar with. Maybe I'll give Q-Squared a try too. :) Shards of Earth has such a great cover. I totally agree with how helpful the "cheat sheets" and fan art are for some SF books. I'm reading a Star Wars book now and I have to keep googling what everyone looks like. Some people I was visualizing as humans, but they were actually supposed be to aliens, ha. I'm still on the fence about Carrie Soto. I loved Daisy Jones (audio), but was so-so about Malibu Rising (physically read). I have Evelyn Hugo, which I think I'll like. I've heard great things about The Thursday Murder Club audio book series! I can't wait to get to them, but I'm trying to wait until the series is done as I know this most recent one leaves you really wanting more. Great wrap up! :)

Richard Osman is just about to release a book but it isn't a Thursday murder club so I guess he is keeping us all on our toes haha. I really enjoy looking at fan art, it's funny when they then make films of things and it doesn't match at all, I love all the old Lord of the rings covers and the weird gollums.

Oh I read Q-In-Law last year. It was fun, but the characters weren't quite themselves. That's Deana Troi's mother. So glad to see another BookTrekker! ❤

I remembered Troi's mother after, and her being a funny character. I need to watch all the Q episodes to prep 😁

I’ve also just picked up my Star Trek books. I love Star Trek but have never read any so I’m looking forward to this event 😊. I think I’d like to read some Tchaikovsky too. I love the Thursday Murder Club series. Joyce is hilarious. Great video 😊

What I like about Star Trek books is they can mostly skip the worldbuilding because we already know the world. I'm quite new to them myself still. Glad to hear people like Thursday Murder Club!

@@AaronReadABook that’s a really good point about the world building

Back when I used to read TNG books, probably 30 to 35 years ago, Peter David was my favourite author, so I think you'll be ok with those. Shards of Earth sounds amazing, I'll get to that when I've finished the Children of Time series.
@AaronReadABook3 ай бұрын
I've always heard good things about his books. I still have the third children of time book to read too I think, I might re-read them first.

I was a bit meh about daisy Jones, which I just finished, so I think I'll read the Evelyn Hugo book as I already own it, then maybe call it quits with TJR! I don't read sci-fi in general, apart from project hail Mary, which I loved! But you did get me interested in shards of earth.

I'm going to convert you and Jo to sci-fi one day 😂 I think she's just quite bad at telling a story all the way through and she always has quite unlikable characters. The TV show of Daisy Jones I enjoyed, they got Phobe Bridgers and Jackson Browne to write the songs so some of the bands music is actually good.

A tennis match boring?!?!? It has been done well! 😃

Tennis is entertaining in real life but in this book it was boring 😂 I think all sport is quite hard to describe, it's so visual.

Interesting point about the enjoyment of a book on audio. I know my audio book listening friends say it takes time to get into the habit of listening. For me, I stop and reread and go back and get distracted easily so audio doesn’t work unless that’s all I’m doing and I really just like to read . I was getting a bit nostalgic thinking about the old Star Trek Next Gen characters, how old is that now?

TNG finished in 1994! The recent Picard show was a lovely revisit of pretty much the whole cast in series 3, highly recommend it and you don't really need to watch the first two series which aren't as good. I had the same issue with audiobooks, but I discovered I can just about concentrate but only while I'm walking or running, and it has to be my usual routes or I get distracted. I tried a Scottish one too and that was too hard to follow 😂

So I grew up watching all of the various Star Trek series and have since rewatched several of them. Yes! DS9 is so fantastic! My fave as well (although I do enjoy Next Gen too). I’ve yet to have read any of the Star Trek books, but maybe I should give them a try. Jenkins Reid is a hit and miss author for me. Daisy Jones was good, but I disliked Evelyn Hugo. Carrie Soto is one that just doesn’t appeal to me as I’m not that interested in tennis.

Evelyn Hugo I think had some real issues, especially with the ending. You should try Star Trek, my favourite thing about it is that it's already in a universe you know so they can skip a lot of worldbuilding. I would recommend the Destiny trilogy which has a lot of original stuff in but a lot of DS9 and TNG too. I'm still pretty early on my Star Trek book journey though to be fair.
