Lyrics:
I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell and
I don't have time to go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I’m watching in 2024 because I had not heard of it till now. That’s because I don’t care for the chicks and another song informed me of this song. It’s a free country. They have their freedom of speech and their own opinions as do I. I couldn’t stomach watching the whole video and stopped it. What are those chicks up to today? Not much I guess.

I served in the USAF when the war they were not happy about and spoke against. I fought for these ladies to speak their mind. I would still fight for their right to be unhappy about it. And to say what they think. I love this song. I love these women. I’ve been out of the service for 17 years…. If I still had my uniform I would show up in it and sing at the top of my lungs. These women are amazing!!!!

Thank you for your service and what you stand for. I have a question if you are willing to answer it. My Ex boyfriend served as a Corpsman way back in the era of Reagan. As far as he was concerned Reagan walked on water. We got into a few arguments about the current President at the time which was Trump. I'm registered as an Independent because I find myself agreeing with issues on the left and right and, I don't vote for someone just because they are a Republican or a Democrat. I vote for whoever I think will do the best job. At the time I was not impressed at all by the actions of President Trump. My Ex defended anything and everything he did, much like his supporters still do today. He said that being ex military he still was taught to always support the President no matter what because he is the Commander in Chief" I say that's bullshit. I say that because this code of his seems to only apply to Republican Presidents. He constantly talked about how Obama ruined this country. And how bad Clinton was.. I could be wrong because I wasn't ever in the military. I understand how the President while you are active military, is basically your "boss" and you need to treat him as such. But he had served 7 years and been out 30. I think he used that as an excuse when I would question something Trump had just done that was clearly not representing our country in a good way and he couldn't come up with a defense. So do you fully support everything a current President says and does? And if it's true then why did he always talk about President Biden in a negative manner?
@clydebrothers494
@clydebrothers494 3 ай бұрын
@@cheryllegerton6725 I didn’t always agree with everything that the president did while I served but I did follow orders. I do not want to comment or make guesses at his thoughts. But as active duty or ex military. You still get to vote. I don’t think either party has it fully figured out. I’d just go for the lesser of two evils

The Chicks are still here, and I'm always gonna support them. The biggest advocates against "Cancel culture" today are the same ones that sought to cancel these ladies. I remember everything and every country singer that spoke out against them.
@jakestroll6518
@jakestroll6518 6 ай бұрын
“Cancel culture” is just people yelling at you on Twitter until the next scandal grabs their attention. These women got all their music banned from radio stations. Record stores in certain States wouldn’t carry their albums. They couldn’t even book stages in red states because the venue didn’t want the security liability. That isn’t cancellation, that’s censorship. Trending on Twitter is a walk in the park.

This song takes on a whole new meaning for me as a domestic abuse survivor who spoke out against my abuser and was told again and again that I was going about it all "wrong." For calling him exactly what he is - a spineless, soulless little bitch. For not being the perfect victim who wishes my abuser well - in fact, I hope and pray he endures the same hell he has put me through. I don't apologize for it. To hell with politeness. Every entertainer who competed against them in that Grammy giveaway to the DC's outsold them that year and (except for one woman who retired over the grief of losing her husband) went on to outsell them every year since. To put that Grammy giveaway into perspective, do you know who Leontyne Price is? How about Alison Krauss? Look it up. And they did it without controversy.

This story has so many layers. Patriotism, free speech, censorship, misogyny, and celebrity worship. One woman at the center of the war created so much controversy that the country channeled their anger over 9/11 into her. She was a trailblazer and should be viewed as one of the most powerful women of her time. She has brave and had the integrity to speak her mind. I’m glad we can all look back and agree she was right. She highlighted that we are not a facist state and Americans have the freedom and duty to question their government no matter who is in office.

It’s scary to know how brain washed I’d been during the era of this song’s release. Few things speak to the thoroughness of the brainwashing more perfectly than vitriol over the release of this song. I’d been a brain washed backwoods southern redneck, fundamental right when conservative Christian back then. I was a good girl and I did as I was told. I got mad when they told me to be mad. I hated who they told me to hate for as long as I could but it’s hard to hate when you REALLY believe the dogma they are shoveling. I hated as well as I could but when the love always outweighed the hate my nature went to war with my raising. When you live in a southern state, inside a southern city, inside of southern family where you are educated in a southern classroom and worship with a small backwoods, ignorant, redneck congregation all spewing the same exact agenda, when do you question it? When your whole reality, from institution to grave, all shares the same exact subverted Christian “values” what does it take to even know you might want to begin to question the facts you’ve been spoon feed? When do you start to question reality? Luckily for me, life reached out and bitch slapped me into next Tuesday so hard I had no choice. Thank God! I’d like to think my nature would’ve eventually overruled my nurturing but who knows? Just happy that I am no longer forced to hate strangers in the name of God becuase it just went the inherent grain of my nature.

The Dixie chicks said what they said and people were mad about it. I respect these women for being angry and voicing how they feel. To me, you could NEVER cancel the Dixie chicks. I’m years older now and have been through my own stuff as a black woman and this song still resonates. I hope these artists know that they truly made an impact on me when I was younger . Just like listening to fancy by Reba as a poor girl. They really got it and I hope that one day they get the flowers they deserve for standing up for what they believed was right. These women are truly gems and I do hope that and pray that they are living their best lives. I am not even trying to be political but to me these are real women who stand beside what they say. I will respect that any day of the week. I’m still upset by some of the things I was put through and the Dixie chicks told me that it was okay to be upset.

Then how do you feel about them capitulating to the Woke mob and changing their names to "The Chicks" cause apparently Dixie is "white supremacy". And what if they capitulated again to the mob and decided "Chicks" was misogynist? Would they still be "brave" if they decided to bend all the way over and recite the words of the new religion and called themselves "The White-Privileged, Internalized-Racist And Self Hating, Misogynistic Menstruating Humans Who Were Assigned Female At Birth"?

The reaction to these women, their music, and their opinions made one thing certain. The US has always had flaws, over time many of us may have had seen over the years positive change or felt it, or hoped for it. People fought for civil rights or voting rights,etc & however weakened the laws were, they were solidified. However, after 9/11, it became absolutely certain if not immediately for some, 20 years for others; that our country is broken. It is deathly ill, and the time has come that there are vultures that will finish the job. People like you need to remain vocally opposed to the types these vultures will target with propaganda. Its not just home brewed propaganda. Its nation state level operations that are using the modern day nuclear weapon equivalent of propaganda with absurdly well targeted results. In fact, the money these countries used to spend on nuclear weapons is literally being used to fund these misinformation campaigns. Only way to solve it is off line. hear political bullshit nearing facism at a gas station? Say something. Let them know where you stand or else we will have our stances defined for us.

The Persian Gulf war was a total shitshow. Beginning to end. They took out Saddam, who was a despot they put into power in the first place, who tried to take over Kuwait, which had all the oil barons. As if the US even needed that. Texas alone produces more oil than them. It was a sadistic powergrab, against another one. Then you wind up with the Taliban taking over Afghanistan, which was advancing pretty nicely, until bombs got thrown on them, incited all kinds of hate. And, who could blame them for that? But then, their #1 export cash crop? Opium. Like... you couldn't use that land, the water, the irrigation and workforce to produce food for your own countrymen? Instead... drug trade. So... yeah, war was a very stupid option all the way round, short term, and long. I don't get the animosity towards diversity though. That's a puzzler. I mean... it's been exacerbated. Trans isn't common, but it does exist. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK9967/ They shouldn't be discriminated against for how they're born though. It happened, harshly, enough times that it brokered an equal and opposite response. Well... maybe more than equal. Do you think blacks should be slaves, by birth? That women should be paid less for the same amount of work? Along those lines.

I still sing this song at the top of my lungs whenever I am angry at "the man." The chicks were put through hell over a simple expression of free speech. As a Canadian I cannot totally identify with the subcultures of America but I can identify with the right to speak ones mind and living through the backlash. Having a great team of people around you to helps you to get through. I am still so happy Martie and Emily stood by Natalie through all of this.

Heck, they even cancelled french fries because France refused to support the war.

@@timber72 no, theyd be put through hell if they said it in America even more so. And how dare you say that their disagreement with a, in hindsight, 110% bs war that killed our precious soldiers just because Bush Jr had a beef with Saddam because he got in an argument with his daddy and then lied to the public claiming he had WMDs when he most certainly did NOT, and had nothing to even f n to do with 9/11, and act like that was a bad thing they disagreed! If you could look up "Landing on the right side of history" in the dictionary it would be the Dixie Chicks disapproval of that war that MY generation fought and came home maimed for doing so, or didn't come home at all. My own family members fought that pointless, stupid, ridiculous, Bush power trip war and every single one of the soldiers that made it back that I met regretted agreeing to go. Where tf were you in 2004 Mr World Police? Did you run to sign up? If not you didnt agree with it either. And you're just a coward running your mouth about something you dont know shxt about. @@youfuckedup423 No group tried to "cancel" the Dixie Chicks. They cancelled themselves with much of their original fan base. The only evidence of anyone trying to boycott the DC's was from a singular post on a website that had 37000 visitors...over the past five years and had no "membership". It was an open forum and only had a few respondents on the post that was there. Another lie by Fat Nat about some mythical organization looking to "cancel" them. The truth is, the Dixie Chicks pandered to a largely anti war crowd in London. Their US fans heard of it and knew she was just throwing GW under the bus to gain popularity in Europe. That large fan base that made them A list entertainers in the first place didn't like what they did. Without any organization at all, a grass roots movement started by individual ex fans calling their radio stations. Radio stations depend on listenership for their ad revenue and hence, their profit. Those that got calls of complaint took the DC's out of rotation. That is something that happens routinely with unpopular music. The DC's tried to sell that as some infringement of their free speech. The DC's, in fact, said whatever they wanted every day. Even GW said, "they can say whatever they want". However, their rights do not include an inalienable right to popularity or profit. They lost money as they lost the original fan base. That's all that happened. They dug their A list status grave with their own mouths.
