The main reason I'm coming to the Philippines to live is the laid-back lifestyle. Even in retirement, things are still too fast paced here in America for my liking. Peace and quiet appeals to me. Nice tour Pea. Dumaguete was one of several places I was looking to settle down.

Queen Filipina Pea: Dumagete City, I really enjoyed that thorough tour. First time someone has made a video of exact understanding that a visitor or possible resident would understand. I agree, to get lower prices, just keep coming back to the same patron. I believe after the third or forth time. That vendor will start given you great deals as a study customer. Many Americans and other foreigners lose their cool and getting upset for not getting a deal at first. I know if I was living in Cebu would provide me a opportunity to see Dumaguete often. Now in my case, I would need to live in Cebu, Manila or Davao area. Because of possible future health issues. Also, they are most familiar with American military Veterans issues especially Ceby and Manila in my opinion. Now time to share this great city tour video and I thank you for that. Side note, back in the day at Clark Air Base, Philippines. I met these two (2) Filipina friends. Rented a Jeepney and traveled to many areas. Went inside restaurants and other areas, both of them insisted I sit in the middle with both on each side. Any clowns or unwanted people approach me they took care of that. They were surprise I did not drink alcohol. I told them that is not my thing, I have natural fun sober. They were happy to hear that. Enjoy them so much. GOD speed to the Philippines.

WOW, that is so awesome, reminds me of the town public markets back home. getting around is pretty easy with public buses and private taxies. When I left home the island had about 275 thousand souls, today it is roughly 214 thousand. when you want fresh,.. shopping on a Saturday morning is a must, the farmers bring down their produce and the fishermen bringing in their catches. the only thing I would go to the big store for is the stuff like flour, salt, spices,.. all of that is imported and controlled,.. Thanks for the tour, brought back some memories. I now know the philippine will be a perfect place to retire for me.

When in the markets in the Philippines, our strategy was for me to stay out of sight and let my wife (Filipina) do the bargaining (she's very good at it). If they knew she was associated with a white man, the price would magically go up. I myself am not a fan of malls, so the idea of there only being one in town rather appeals. Edit: I have been one of ten (yes, ten) people in/on a tricycle, PLUS the driver, PLUS all our luggage! It was one of the most terrifying rides of my life! If I had had my way, we would have spread the load between at least two, preferably three, tricycles.

My favorite too! I thought those water buffalo like Africa's, one of the most dangerous animals on Earth. Now I want one as a house pet. More videos of THE PHILIPPINES and less about how retirees can make the Philippines like "the West." Can I retire to a house made of wicker? What about mosquitoes, King Cobras, flowering trees, invasions of crabs, dragonflies, and where to snorkel? I've been to malls. They look about the same everywhere, and just as poisonous to the psyche and environment.

Your hometown looks like parts of the Atlanta metropolitan area in the state of Georgia. We don't have a wet market, but we do have a farmers market where people from all over the state bring their produce for sale (but no meat or fish). Unfortunately, big malls are becoming places of crime, including a LOT of shooting, at least in the Atlanta area (I don't know about the rest of America). I like your little hometown. I don't like big cities... that's why I live in a small town south of Atlanta. Thank you for the tour and the glimpse into everyday life in your small town. It was wonderful.

A farmers market is considered a type of wet market. Although no on will be chopping meat under the blazing southern sun, there will be a number of independent farms, often ones that offer meat. They take orders and either you pick it up at the store on the farms grounds or they deliver. Also, game meat is a big thing in the US, usually sold by specialty butchers. Eat state has several it is popular to hunt in. New Jersey, for example, the best turkey and duck in the world can be had here, fresh.

Dumaguete has a low cost of living so great for retired folks on a fixed income. I am saving for early retirement so will be able to afford BGC with weekend trips to Tagaytay Highlands. Glad you like EPCOT for I live 10 minutes from the park with an annual pass. Thanks for showing us your city.

I found that tour very informative. I love the wet market. Reminds me of Kenya a lot. Even the tilapia (the tilapia in Kenya is very delicious). But I was mostly surprised by Silliman University. It has Presbyterian roots! The part of Kenya I'm from has a strong Presbyterian presence, dating back to when the country was a British colony. It is wonderful to learn that its medical school is very well regarded. That must be of crucial importance to the local people (assuming that they can afford its medical care). I can see why foreigners would want to retire in Dumaguete. Not only is it relaxing but it appears amazingly affordable. Furthermore, the seemingly simplicity of life is very refreshing. And I was also really impressed by the clearness of the ocean water.

Nice video, I like the casual tours around places, there's always something to learn. I think the rat deserves a reward for his timing in this video, it made me laugh. I'm sure one of the reasons so many expats travel there is the relative safety from the worst effects of typhoons and also just the fact that there's a sizeable expat community there. If you could have a word with the government though and get them to open up by March (holidays by then hopefully) that would be great 😁😁
