Hi Nelle since you filmed this the surgeon has done the implant! & I know u will be updating everyone when u feel up to it! But I wanted to take the time to thank u for sharing your experience from losing your hearing to having the implant with more to follow! There are a lot of us like myself if hearing aids stop helping then the next step would to see about a CI! You have shown what to expect from being referred to the stage your at now! You can only watch so many you tube videos about CI's but you tell it as it is & what it will be like at the end of the journey! Then hopefully people like myself if hearing aids don't help anymore will go down the same route as you! So thank you so much & my best wishes for activation day 💜💜

Hi Nelle! I’ve been watching your videos and appreciate them since you’re just a few months ahead of me in the CI journey! Surgery next week :) I’m glad it seems from your videos that it’s going well for you so far, and just wanted to say I’m enjoying your videos.

When I worked on the farm we had a chap straight out of college working with us! His favourite saying was ' according to the book' but this was real life things are different in the real world! My point is I do not have a clue about CI's apart from from what I have seen here on you tube & what Nelle has told us! But when Nelle first lost her hearing being I had a similar hearing loss & have worn hearing aids for a big part of my life I felt my advice would be helpful! That's where the book is of little use! To wake up with no hearing & then find there was a waiting list for NHS hearing aids! What do you do next! Lucky for you your parents managed to buy you hearing aids! But then you had the hassle of whistling aids until you got the molds you have now! But as soon as you had your implant operation & activation then it was over to other followers on the internet to compare notes with! They knew stuff you didn't & visa versa! But I was and am happy I was there for your hearing aid period! Little things like the thicker the tubing the more sounds get through to your ears! Most people think apart from the thin wire RIC hearing aids that the tubing for the BTE hearing aids are all the same size! If you go on eBay you will see different thicknesses of tubing! It's lovely to see all the regular people that contribute are so kind & helpful! It's ok to give thumbs down its your right! But thankfully there has been no horrible comments! Being deaf at any age is hard enough! Thank goodness Nelle is doing these video's & warn others of what can happen! It helps to have supportive family & a boyfriend that cares! We all think of the person that loses their hearing but it's just as stressful for the relatives who do their best to help & probably fuss to much or say the wrong thing! But they care so it's worth it 💖

Hi again Nelle that was an interesting video,so much reading to do,it was good they asked how going deaf affected your daily life & what you hope for with a cochlear implant! All the people I have seen have the implant sitting on the ear! I cannot comment on what make to get! But I remember the consultant saying 20 yrs ago that they would implant my worst ear as back then any residual hearing I had left would be gone & at least I could still use a hearing aid in the other ear! And yes half my hair would have been shaved off & quite a big scar also not many people in my area had been implanted mainly due to cost! That was another reason I turned it down so a young deaf child had a start in life! Well done for jazzing up your hearing aids with twisted thingy on the tubing & going for coloured molds & I love the colour of your phonak hearing aids! I can only imagine what it will sound like having a CI in one ear & a hearing aid in the other! Around 3 yrs ago my local optician started helping out the NHS with hearing tests & aid fittings! They fitted me with new hearing aids! A year later my speech & hearing had got so bad they could not help,only the hospital could give me powerful hearing aids unless I went private! So I had the usual beep test where you pressed a button & that's when I was told my hearing was out of the severe & in to the profound loss section! But they just had a new hearing aid model in the SIGNIA contrast SP+ the most powerful hearing aid they do! I had speech therapy as I got a bad lisp especially on my S & T & the audiologist struggled to understand me! She thought I had been born deaf before reading my notes! So the volume etc was turned up & that was it! She did mention an implant again but covid came along & so did my sight loss in my remaining good eye! My left eye is like looking through frosted glass! And it was classed as a bad lazy eye! At around 7yrs old i spent the whole of the summer holiday good eye patched the strongest lensed NHS glasses they could find & my first taste of using a white stick! As I could not see in front of my nose! So Nelle grab this cochlear implant with both hands! You come across as a strong willed person who if there is a chance you will hear again you will do it! Just as you were finishing the video on the back page of the book it said how much hearing you could get,how clear & a time frame so would it be possible to explain to your followers what the implant team think you could hear? Get the on the ear prossor more convenient and easer the wear from what I hear. I don't have enough hearing loss for an implant but if I did that's what I would get Nelle. Also from what I hear both brands of cochar implant brands are good Nelle. I would get the one that matches up with the resound hearing aids. I have had three sets of resound hearing aids and they're great.

I know I'm a bit late replying but great posts,I'm had hearing loss for about 12 years now( ear infection was initial cause of loss) gradually getting worse,referred to the nottingham auditory implant program did the usual hearing tests and mri and speech therapy unsure on how long I have to wait now but hopefully maybe this year?? I will get my ci.

I would choose on the ear, nucleus 7. I guess the most popular one must be the best one. One with the most options for accessories and phone apps available , like using a microphone . Also, I think the nucleus 7 is popular enough to have a ton accessories to change the colour or design on them Be warned of my opinion though, I only have normal-to-profound hearing loss and so I have never used cochlear implants , and I am biased towards the look of hearing instruments than the sound quality of them 😓 Ps. Love your tube twists on your hearing aids! I have the same kind

Wow, that is one heck of an undertaking, but reassuring the process is being handled so thoroughly. It would be worth asking your cochlear implant team if they could put you in touch with others who are already using the processors being offered. The support group, you mentioned, might be a good place to start. Surgeons and doctors can advise from clinical experience, but only a patient can advise from real world experience. Often it's the little things that make the most difference. Is this being performed privately or on the NHS? If on the NHS then it’d be worth asking whether a compatible hearing aid could also be offered. I wish you well on your cochlear journey.

Subtitles are now fixed

Late next month I'll be going thru what you did with the long hearing test. They said itll be like an hour and half. My previous tests were around 20 mins. The next day I have another appointment I guess to discuss what comes next. They already had me get an MRI last month and they'll use that. The question I have for you is how long did you wait get the surgery after this? I'm hoping they implant me soon after that.
