Love the Bushman Bowie! 👍🏼👍🏼 Twenty five years ago they were made of thicker steel. Wish I still had my first one. These are still fantastic knives for the price, and nothing short of a gun creates more confidence in the bush than a good spear! If you can find one, check out the Condor Matagi. It’s like a Bushman on steroids. Based on a Japanese spearhead designed to kill bears

Quick tip - use an "eye hole" screw (whatever they're called) instead of a standard one, you can twist them in and out mostly by hand and then tighten by threading the eye with whatever stick or tool bit you have handy, instead of needing to carry a screwdriver.

Had the original one for 20+ yrs. Very tough tool. Great for hunting/camping. Killed a good size Shark (7') with it on a stick in the Gulf. Pulled the 16' boat a couple miles, on the fishing rod, before I got close enough to reach him. As the finish wore off, it started to rust, so I sanded it, wiped it with alcohol, and painted it flat black (Walmart $1). Wrapped hangle with paracord. Still going strong.

More great videos. I bought 3 of the "regular "Bushman", direct from Cold Steel, as " factory seconds "( "cosmetic damage, not effecting useage") for $ 12.00 each. The knives were perfect, but the little plastic clips which retain the knife in the sheath kept popping out, causing Zero retention. I cut a piece of Dollar Tree flexible cutting board to " sandwich" the blade, and slide it into the sheath. It firmly holds the knife ,and even " clicks" in place. I looped a ball bungee through the handle hole and around the ferro rod, for extra retention. Put a small cable tie through the ferro rod and snug it over the bottom of the rod, to prevent loss. Just bought 2 of the Bowie style off Amazon ( after watching your video) for $ 17.00 each. Currently experimenting with survival kit to fit inside the handle. I use a small screw eye to secure the knife to a shaft, so I can secure a rope to it for fishing use, without a screwdriver.

411 has my support and blessings, I must say it is refreshing to hear someone well spoken and polite your demeanor is needed in this world. I ordered two of these bushman Bowie‘s they should be arriving today. I look forward to customizing them. Cold steel has always impressed me, I might have one of the best collections that I know of. I would suggest to viewers if you’re looking for a reliable tool such as a knife to start with cold steel. You will always get your moneys worth.

When I learned how to throw a knife when I was a boy I was first taught to throw underhanded from the hip, the same way. Blade never turns goes straight force to target. When I got older I was taught overhand throw, but still taught to throw by handle but to make the blade turn one time

hopefully you got the superior bowie versus the spear-point. yes the spear-point is slightly better as a spear but the bowie looks cooler, chops better and handles camp tasks and even food prep better because of the jig of it's cut, it's cutting angle shape

Got my bushman last week and tried it out a cupla days ago. Attached it to a broom handle. Throwing a spear proficiently is much harder than it looks lol after some practice though I was sticking it in a tree at 5-8 foot almost everytime. Currently it sits next to my bedside and I got my sights on ordering the bowie the next chance I get ✊

@@411Outdoors I agree 💯 hey I'm using pretty light broomstick for my handle and I was wondering if a heavier branch limb or a piece of oak would make it fly better. You always say that more substance makes a knife throw better, but do you think that goes for spears too? Just curious

Polearms are great multipurpose survival weapons. In Japan, they had the Naginata, which was basically a Katana type blade mounted on a pole. European Polearms had such a large variety of styles to suit different needs. The obvious advantage is Reach. Thanks for another great video. Have fun with your new friend.

I keep mine mounted on six and a half foot walking staff next to my INCH bag. I don't know if they make them out of the same steel now but the older ones can be sharpened razor sharp. I've got a couple of Cold Steels actual spears as well. The ones I bought are almost short sword size and are pretty cool too.

Yep, I have said spear head, I put mine on a hickory hoe handle. Used a wood rasp and a belt sander to get it fit . It is a very good idea. I've used a Eye Screw to hole mine on the handle, that way I can remove it pretty easy, if I need to use it as a knife.

I frequented Martial arts supply stores back in the day. They typically had two kinds of staffs/spear handles. Rattan and oak. Rattan has a lot of flexibility and bounce. Tough tough stuff and light, not very rigid though. Oak is quite a bit heavier and they came in either consistent diameter from one end to the other or fat in the middle and tapering a bit towards the ends. For cutting applications the whip effect of the rattan might be an advantage. Although controlling the bounce is a matter of practice. I was also thinking about a short handle for that. Enough to give you extra speed in your swing and a bit more reach. Applications where a machete or even a hatchet would be handy, but you don't have either.👍

I’ve always been drawn to the, Staff/pole, from a very early age! (Donatello was my favorite) Its just such an incredible weapon/tool/aid! What beats a long solid stick? A long solid stick, with a big ass blade on the end of it, that’s what! Hands down, the absolute most fearsome and effective, traditional weapon of all time! Swordsman know, that they are no match for the pole arm (no disrespect to swordsman,however, I practice that as well). Good stuff, mate! New sub here 🤙🏼

Had the one where the handle was welded. Used a short broom handle I'd say a little more than 30inches. Lost it in moving to another place. getting another one and I'd say I would rather use a bokken or club as a house hold defense. spearing someone would be something on my mind for a long time if the person didn't survive. probably if was a full house invasion I would justify using the spear. these things are fun to play I understand what you mean.

A small shovel is perhaps the most valuable tool for desert survival. Have you used this as a spade? Considering it can (supposedly) be resharpened with a standard rock, I wouldn't be as apprehensive using this knife for digging when desperate.

I wasn’t expecting you to generate that much power and I wasn’t expecting the spear to fly that straight. I mean I realize you don’t intend to throw that spear at people but in the event you had to I don’t think the person would even realize the spear was even being thrown until they were already impaled.
@alex-craft

I would prefer the handle were a bit wider, as the way it is the stick in the handle joint is too thin and can break if you make powerfull cutting motion.
