Welcome back to yet another video! In store for you today we have the Colden Trap Dike. This hike is an incredibly dangerous route and is one that should not be taken lightly. We are putting this video out in attempt to show just how dangerous this hike is. We made sure beforehand to have plenty of experience, and research this route extensively. We hope you all enjoy!

I've seen videos where this is climbed as if it's a race. I like your smart and deliberate approach. Very thoughtful video with great intro and outro. You guys have a lifetime of shared adventures ahead of you. I live on the west coast and recently made it east to hike Whiteface, Dial and Nippletop. Great introduction to the beautiful Adirondacks. Maybe the Trap Dike someday. Enjoyed your video very much.

Glad it was helpful! Make sure that you are aware of the conditions - the waterfalls can make the climb very dangerous if they are wet!! Hope you have a safe, yet awesome adventure!

Great video! Been wanting to do the Trap Dike for probably 4 years now. Decided to get more experience before I do it. It looks amazing. Now I'm 11 away from the 46. Just looking for a good time to do it. Doing Santononis this weekend

Awesome!! It is great that you decided to wait and gain more experience. Many mistake their boundaries and do it without enough experience. Have a great hike this weekend!

Great video. Well done and informative. Alex, your dad told me to check out your vids. I knew your family growing up. Your grandpa and my dad (Vincent Parlato) used to buy a cow or two together, raise it on your grandpa's land, then split the meat at butchering. Love how you both coached each other on the climb. I've done some backpacking and climbing out here in New Mexico and in Southern Colorado Rockies. Great mountaintop experiences. I learned the climber's mantra, "The mountains are unforgiving." Your vid underscores the need to 1. Go with a buddy 2. Always go prepared 3. Assist each other. Once again, well done.

This is great. Most Trap Dike videos of seen give up on filming at the waterfall crux because the makers are to busy just trying to get up without killing themselves.

Commenting under my wife's acct. Really good video gentleman! One of the better ones i have watched of the Trap Dike and i have viewed many. Look forward to viewing more of your content. Your commentary at the end was wise and insightful. Everyone should be well researched and studied before attempting the TD. And of course know your abilities particularly as you are very exposed while ascending the magnificent Trap Dike. Thank you for sharing. ADK 46er #15,501 & climber of the Dike

I’ve watched a few trap dike videos and yours was the best and most informative of all. I would have loved to attempt it back in my prime hiking days. The only Adirondack hike I’ve ever done was Algonquin back in the late 70s. I did most of my hiking in the Whites. I’ve done several slides as bad as that but the dike itself is on another level. Even Huntington Ravine on Washington is not nearly as difficult and dangerous. The videography was excellent, well done.

Thank you so much for the words Robert! I have heard that Huntington's is similar, but less of a slide and more climbing?

Cool trip, lads. First did the Trap Dike in 1979 and it was a bit of a b-whack from the top of the dike up the old slide on the right (the one you bypassed lower down). It is sooooo much cleaner to get to the summit now. I must go back...

How wild this ended up in my feed, headed up the dike this Saturday for the umpteenth time ! Weather's been great and dry for two weeks so the stream will be small in the spots you have to climb through it. Best climb in the ADK's if you ask me(Eagle slide gettin' a little grown in...), quickest way to the top. Don't forget the boulder problem at the top...😁

Excellent video guys. I hiked the old slide when I was a kid, back in about 1980, during summer camp. I think I was too young to realize how dangerous it was. Anyway, well done.

while at the peak of Mt. Colden, i was sitting right at the exposed rock face where you climb up to when finishing the dike eating a sandwich. I saw two heads poke up and it confused the hell out of, they were all torn up and i was so confused. They then tell me they took the trap dike up and i’ve been looking it up ever since. Definitely not for the faint hearted and nice video.

Yeahh! Super neat if you're an igneous petrologist haha.. Wishing I collected some more samples but the trap dike itself really is a larger intrusion of what I'm assuming is a slightly less resistant rock compared to the coarse grained anorthosite.

Hello! The party behind us was originally in front of us. It was their 3rd high peak ever and to say the least, they were unprepared. We helped guide them throughout the trap dike so that’s why we seemed close!

Hey guys what type of shoes do you recommend??
@adkandbeyond
@adkandbeyond 10 ай бұрын
We would definitely recommend a trail running shoe with good grip. If you want to feel more comfortable, I would recommend approach shoes, or even climbing shoes!
@lois6705
@lois6705 11 ай бұрын
It's not a trail. And no helmets? Given the popularity of the climb and the fact that idiots have kicked rocks down it, it would be wise to wear them. Also, climbing shoes...
@adkandbeyond
@adkandbeyond 11 ай бұрын
Hello. We made sure to point out in the video that this is NOT a trail, yet a climb. We also said that we are experienced and comfortable hiking in this terrain and therefore we did not feel the need to wear helmets. However we did say that it is OK to bring safety equipment. Climbing shoes are not necessary but if it makes you more comfortable, than you can bring them.
@Xfinitygrows

which summit ascent doesn’t have falling rock hazards? Like small Black bear to Blue mtn …okay Rondaxe maybe that’s your mtn then. Up north we don’t wear helmets.

Nice vid. I did this hike a few yrs ago. A lot more water coming down. The crux part i had to go right ..up a shrub covered steep part. Did that crack at the start of the slab like you guys did. Really fun with hand holds. I found that right at the top of the slab was a sketchy spot like you said. Steep and rounded. Maybe because i was tired at that point. You can enter the side shrubs there and scoot around. Vids never convey just how steep some spots are. A great hike!
