COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: You know that it's a theme for me now to pick up some funky shirts whilst I'm travelling, so I headed to a market here near Colombo Fort to see what I could find. The problem was that nobody seemed to want to give any prices - they were very cautious of the camera. Fortunately, one guy was top notch friendly and so I picked up some bits from him. Come with us and explore this local clothes market here in Colombo.

Your seller was warning you about the "brokers" , like the guy with the neck brace. They go around pretending to be the stall holder, while hiking up the price & getting their cut. Probably one of the reasons, they don't display the price. Since many foreign vloggers visit this place & put their experience on KZfaq, they have started to wise up to the fact that the camera is not doing them any favours. Hence the nervousness when they see anyone holding a camera.

Wayne, a good strategy is to put how much u wud like to pay in ur purse, only that amount..and then show them ur open purse with the money and tell them that is all the money u h ave and that u r on a budget, like "look this is all i have"..very likely they wud accept it (provided its not unreasonably low ofc)

Yea this is a good strategy too I think. I have to organise my wallet first though because I'm always carrying too much left over foreign currency and just all sorts of receipts etc haha

Those people ask you to turn off camera are street sales brokers- Wen they take to someone to their stores, store owner have to give him a cut bringing customers.

@TheWanderLife Sorry, my last comment wasn't very clear. What I'm was trying to say is, in the other video, I saw them in. They were very aggressive! I'm going to sri lanka with the other half in a few months time. I'll be going to this market, and hopefully, they don't get aggressive with me, if they do they will be getting told to back off. Anyway thanks for the video 👍🏽

@@TheTorbinator1 Ahhhhh I hear you now! Yea I'm sure you'll be fine. I think it's the same as most places - as long as you're both confident yet polite, people tend to stay pretty chill and leave you alone. I never encountered anything too forceful that was really uncomfortable, so you'll be sweet. Hope you enjoy your time there as much I do!

Hi there, this was just a 20 second walk down the road from the Colombo train station (same side as the sation entrance - don't cross the bridge over the road etc)
