This was absolutely beautiful! I feel even more drive to write a genuine and sincere essay when I start applying to colleges towards the end of this year. I feel as though this gave me inspiration amidst the constant doubts and crazy looks I get from peers whenever I mention that I would like to go to Yale. Thank you. :)

great essay! the pattern/structure of alternating longer vivid descriptions w shorter sentences was really effective!

Greetings from Brazil. Thank you for all your videos, especially those related to the application process. I’m a senior at high school (stressed) and I would like to know your opinion about one thing. In my “Why Yale?” I mention a specific residential college (Silliman). So, do you think it’s fine to do that instead of just saying “residential college”? I’m asking this because I’m afraid of the admission officers seeing me as smug/arrogant since first-years are randomly assigned at the residential colleges and there’s no way to predict where you’ll end up going. I would be glad if you could help me on this.

i loved this essay, but isn’t it problematic in the sense that it makes the reader more excited in meeting his dad, as oppressed to meeting him?

Actually it’s all about his dad. It’s a great essay about him, but like Kevin has said in the past, colleges aren’t admitting our parents, siblings, or others we admire but us. So I’m scratching my head with this one.
