This Video is the most concise guide I can give to German Unification in Victoria 3. This Guide applies to all German States Including Both Prussia and Austria.
This is not a step by Step guide, more so a guide to the mechanics of Forming Germany in Victoria 3. If You're looking for a Step by Step Guide I will be coming out with one soon.

Managed to do this before this video and I had no idea what I was doing. I didnt know austria had to only be a major power but I managed to humiliate austria during the leadership play. Amazing video, these are always a treat

there is a better option to form germany. after you launch leadership against prussia or austria, improve relation againts it and after the relation reach amicable, they will support you to form germany then you can form super germany that include north and south

I just did a Prussia playthrough for the first time this month. I found that going to war with Austria early on and making them release Hungary made forming Germany a walk in the park.

Do you have to be a Great Power to be a unification candidate? If Prussia and Austria lose their Great Power status, do I still need to be one?

schleswig holstein question definitely has to be bugged. last time i formed super germany i liberated holstein and it didn’t complete but annexing schleswig worked

Good info, but I think you need to add that the player should not form Confederation of the Rhine, since it disallows to form Germany. Only Central Europe (HRE) is possible. I wish would know it when I played as Anhalt.

From my understanding, it basically acts the same way the north German confederation does, but for south German States like Austria and Bavaria instead of Prussia. If you have amore specific question I'm glad to help.

@@TobyYellsAtThings I know that you used to be able to annex other German states diplomatically, as in they decided to join you nation. Is this still a feature? Because I haven't encountered it and my understanding is that know the only real way to form the sgf is to basically conquer it all. Also, thanks for the answer :)

@@MonsieurLeCoq you can annex the states of your primary culture group by solving the schleswig Holstein question and becoming the only unification candidate. After that you can form Germany by getting the other German states to like you enough.

Lol yesterday i started new run for prussia, i formed north german federation and i am currently straggling forming Germany cause as soon as i start the diplomatic play everyone just immediately joins against me althoug my infamy is below 10 ... Oh yeah and i realeased some countries from majors from the start so it should be even easier for me but eh...

wait a minute since when does conquering denmark land give you enough states to form germany? clearly you can't be talking about holstein and sleshwig by mistake right?

You have to fight Denmark to take Schleswig and Holstein. That's what I meant, maybe I could have made that more clear. Even then I think you may still be short a state.

@@TobyYellsAtThings yeah you are short a state when you form NGF (which you do by releasing danish german land) . you need either Alsace Lorraine from France or Any German Land from Austria (preferably Bohemia (good state)) to form Germany after launching a another unification candidate war. lands from Denmark do not count which was what was confusing me.
