Not just working lives. Lives period. There are many adults who are choosing to be childfree and their families are absolute terrors to them for it. Not everybody dreams of being a parent. Barely into the Podcast and Kush is all "I want to feed my child my cooking" and it hit like a truck. Food is such an important thing to human culture across the board, and it's one of the things I pay special attention to. Nothing was more human than Kush looking forward to that experience.

its the touch stone of family i think, you will always remember the food of your parents for good or ill. It shapes you and how your relationship with it will be so agreed. Also we as the back of the cooking gap (that weird gap of 2 generations where cooking died thanks to modern food production as a generalization) need to teach our kids how to cook and to cook healthy and reduce waste.

Kush is spot on with his advice. I've had 25+ years in the kitchen, the last 15 as Exec. It's grueling both mentally and physically, and there is a vicious loop with the lack of positive feedback. I had to get out of the vicious lifestyle a year ago. I now cook at hospital for patients and staff. It's so relaxing, compelling, and very satisfying. And to bring a chef's touch and plating for the patients is pleasing. However. I had a full plate come back tonight. The patient passed away between lunch and dinner. It hits you. I made his last meal. Another time, I had a patient being taken off a ventilator and she put in a request for the biggest double cheeseburger with extra extra extra everything and something chocolate and decadent. She knew it was her last meal. That one still gets me. I knew it, she knew it, and I did my damnedest to make the most insane thing I could. She ate the dessert first to make sure she had room and time. I still fucking cry when I think about it.

When our dad was in hospital for the last time, the kitchen staff would call every day to see if he could eat anything or if there was anything he wanted. They also sent a cup of coffee and a bun or sandwich to our mom every day because they knew she was essentially living in his room. Will always be grateful to them for that. Thank you for everything you do for your patients. It is so appreciated.

This caused me to tear up because I spent several months in the hospital a few years back due to a stroke, and if I'd known before I went into the hospital that I had only a fifty-fifty chance of making it home, then I would have eaten one of the most glorious meals of my life.

As a physician I can 100% relate to what Kush is saying about being down because of the environment in the kitchen. While in medical school, or more so residency, you're just expected to perform at peak with no mistakes with exceptionally long hours (sometimes 30+ at a time). You certainly hear it when you don't do well but there isn't much of a positive feedback loop when you're doing well. It can be crushing and I've taken that experience with the students and residents that I teach to make sure they understand when they are doing both bad or good. Everyone needs that. Kush, you've been wonderful to watch. Thank you for being candid about your experiences. I have no doubt it will be beneficial to others.

This could easily have been twice as long and I’d have happily have watched it. I’m watching it again now for the second time, after all. Kush has been a great addition to Sorted. Not only does his natural “chaos goblin” energy mesh beautifully with the natural mayhem resulting from a group of disparate people and a kitchen, but, and somehow, this isn’t as contradictory as it sounds, his sense of discipline as a chef has affected the boys cooking for the better.(also glad to hear that he agreed with most of the community, that Mike HAD that last dish, and Barry wasn’t really sous chef material….no shade on Barry but a sous chef is there to keep things on course, not to be all “….oooooohhh SQUIRREL!!!!!!…..”) He still amazes me every time he’s in the kitchen…..this man is a virtuoso and the kitchen is his instrument and it’s a pleasure to watch him play.

I knew Kush was good, but I didn't know he was *that* good. I felt like leaving a £50* tip and a five-star Yelp review after wathing this. It was brilliant - really great interview. *If I left a £50 tip, it'd cost me only another 750,000 years before I could afford my own private yacht. So - you know - priorities...

Those guys that took Kush on had the right mindset about what makes a great chef. Shout out to Kush's mom, she's a real one.

Its 3.30 am here in Australia. I was just going to watch the first 5 minutes. But Kush's narrative is compelling. Thanks for this. And with baby brain too.

Half an hour in and already learned so much about the man, the industry... Life! Taking my wife to the 9th restaurant for her birthday based on Kush stating it's his favourite a few weeks ago.

I'm at uni atm and there is this expectation for me to be at the top of my industry to do all these high level things. I always thought to myself I just want to be happy is that not enough? Hearing Kush say that all that other stuff wasn't the dream and he just wants to be happy which changes constantly of course was really comforting. I've been watching the channel for a long time and just want to say thank you for creating the amazing videos you have. I hope you keep going for as long as the channel makes you happy :)

brought me nostalgia on that starting right away on prep. Used to clock in, throw a banter "scarnon cvnts!" (australian, mind you), then immediately head over to my section either starting the day or passing over, "hows the prep, what else needed to be ticked off". I swear even 4 hours of prep work isnt enough on some very hectic days.. cant believed i used to work for 13+ hours a day. oh! and Im known as a banana. Yellow outside (asian) white inside. hahaha!

Loved this! Such an interesting interview on Kush's journey, and going behind the curtains of the restaurant industry. And from someone so genuine and down to earth. Also we both said "Yay!" out loud at the idea of doing a similar interview for James. We hope all of you will take a turn in the guest seat, especially Ben!
