the Gose is one of the most fascinating beers to ever exist. Its sweet, salty, sour and bursting with an amazing history! The fact that it comes from Germany makes it even more of an oddity compared to its more "normal" cousins. So today I want to explore the entirety of the gose history from a small village exclusive to one of the most prominent offerings in the modern craft beer movement.

Gose is so delicious. A company ear me makes one called Mas Agave which is so ridiculously good

Agave gose are one of the best flavors known to man! I've brewed a few margarita inspired goses myself and am always blown away by the synergy of the flavors

Thanks for putting this interesting history together. I wonder what the source of the Gosler river's saltiness is as it does appear to be tidal, and so isn't brackish. Are there salt deposits or mines in the area? It's funny that what the world, and we today, enjoyed as Gose beer was something the Gosler citizens and makers of that beer didn't like.

I think the source of salinity is purely mineral derived from the rocky bed it runs over. Its not VERY salty like many craft gose style beers would make you think, but more so just a tiny touch of brineyness that shows through in the brew.

This is really enlightening for me because i accidentally shoplifted strawberry gose without reading the label and at first i thought it tasted like vomit and stomach acid but now i appreciate its merits

Thanks for the video, i'm in Leipzig and drinking a Ritterguts-Gose right now. Found it in a local kiosk was very surprised by the taste.

Wow you still respond to these comments on old videos? Amazing! I'm kinda drunk on the one I got right now, salt makes sweet is true with it I can tell I never tasted a beer style like this before. The one I got is " Kinn Bryggeri - Havblikk " or translated "Kinn Brewery - Ocean Glance", Norwegian brewery. If you google the name they have an English flag on the right hand top of the site. They however change the lighthouse they are describing in the text, " Ytterøynane Fyr " is the Western most lighthouse in Norway and they changed it for some other English iconic light house called the " Skerries Lighthouse ". Anyways maybe i need a 20 litre keg cheers!

I have had the Lost Nation and it was the first Gose style I have had. It had a fresh coriander and malt flavor and was by far the best I have had likely due to it being fresh. It really is the template for American brewers.

I'm jealous! When I was up that way I never got to visit them and didn't find the gose in any bottle shops. But from what I hear you are exactly right in it being the cornerstone. Thank you for stopping by, cheers!
