Contingency fuel can be also calculated based on statistical fuel requirements. For example for a given city-pair at least a minimum amount of flights have to be done, during which the normal contingency fuel measures will be planned. After that the highest amount of burned contingency and extra fuel in a certain percentage (usually 90%, 95% and 99% with the highest 10%, 5%, 1% of fuel used removed) of flights will be calculated and used as contingency fuel, provided that value is not less than a certain absolute minimum, for example 5 minutes of level flight in 1.500ft above destination. Usually the 95% statistical contingency fuel is used, but the other values provided to the flight crew for information.

Airport in my city (yeg) has cheap fuel, flights tanker a lot, aka more fuel so they require less fuel for the next flight, usually when the destination has expensive fuel

Recently, there was a simple flying video on short haul wide body flights. I wonder what the fuel requirements are for those. I suspect the plane would be very light.

So many times I've seen pilots doing a series of calculations when passengers are boarding a plane. I imagine that this is one of the most important calculations. Great video and insight about this subject matter. It's nice to know just how critical this is.

As a fueler all I get is the final load. We have a window of minus and plus pounds the plane can have after it is fueled, provided we put in it what is requested. We are also told to plus the load a little bit more (depending on destination and plane size.) This is a very interesting brief you have produced, but I would like it more if you included the equivalent standard measurements along with metric. You can show them on the screen. The Gimli glider incident was not the pilots that did the calculations incorrectly. I the pilots gave the right numbers to the fueler. The fueler didn’t do the right conversion.
