Forming in 2005, Dance Gavin Dance has been around long enough to build a pretty big name for themselves. Today, I go over the very, VERY complicated history of the band and all its members.

I actually became a fan of DGD a couple months ago. A friend of mine showed my boyfriend some of their songs and in turn showed me. I'm absolutely in love with Tilian's vocals, they're so smooth and just put me on a feels trip every time. The contrast between his clean, sugary sounding voice and the chaos of the guitars is too good of blend for me to ignore. Also, I'm impressed that the man can hit higher notes in full voice than I can 😂 makes singing along challenging and fun.

So somehow no idea how, I had 2 songs from WISIRO on my itunes library But were listed as unknown band, unknown artist. I loved those two songs, this is crazy but I did not technically "discover" the rest of what dance gavin dance had made up until the release of acceptence speech.... That means i was listening to them in 7th grade (without knowing who they were, and again these were my favorite two songs for over like 4 or 5 years lmao it drove me insane not knowing) all the way up until like nearly freshmen year of college... And then my friend showed my Acceptence speech... I think they'd made 3 full length albums prior at that point, not including WISIRO??? Regardless, that day was incredible fkr me, because after 5 years never knowing who made my favorite songs, I finally found out and then had tons of new songs to listen to lol. 100% my favorite band now.
@josephkoch22624 жыл бұрын
Oh and p.s. I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere surrounded by hicks and country girls. It was basically all country music all the time (which fucking sucked). Point being, NO ONE I had ever been friends with had heard of DGD, so I ended up thinking "hmm, maybe these really are the only two songs by this mysterious band I cannot find". 🤷 idk I think it's pretty cool that I discovered them like that. I think I'd have gone insane if I NEVER found out who they were though. The music they've created, and the passion of each current member has inspired me and improved my life in too many ways to count. 👏

This is a bit weird, but I actually discovered DGD through Fantano's review. I decided to see if they were as Fantano described them, as I do with many of his negative reviews, and although I didn't think they were as bad, they weren't my thing, as they reminded me a lot of emo and post-hardcore scene bands from the mid and late 2000s that I can't stand. However, I kept going back to that album and continued to check out more of their work, and they grew on me a lot. My favorite album by them is Acceptance Speech with my favorite song of their's period being Death of the Robot with Human Hair. They were a band that I never thought I would like in a million years, but their knack for fusing lightning-fast math rock and post-hardcore riffs with pop melodies and hooks, especially with Tillian, really won me over. The fact that it all started with a scathing review from Fantano is kind of crazy.
@hetareee_5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I found out about them because of a Spotify recommended playlist. I got freaked out by Jon, but then really started liking it. Plus Will's riffs are enough to infect anyone with love for their music. Except for maybe Fantano. But whatever he don't matter. Just don't tell him I said that.
@NigelGrab5 жыл бұрын
Yeah aside from coming across and not caring for a couple of their songs back in 2010 or so, I didn't know much about DGD until Anthony Fantano's review. I like the guy's content quite a bit and kinda jumped on the whole "lol it's shitty post hardcore in [current year]" thing. But then I came back to it a couple years later and decided, you know what, I'll bite. Let's try this weirdo band. I love them so. much. IG is my ironically my favourite album of theirs despite getting 1'd by him. Also love the Fooies ;)

The picture you used for Jason Ellis was another picture of Zach Garren. Zachy also never returned for any DBMii touring. I value your opinion and this was a great shot at an old band I’ve been following since I was younger than you are now BUT DEATHSTAR IS STILL a solid listen all the way through to this day. Template for a lot of sounds that were going on after the album.

DGD has been a steady sound for probably at least five years. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of Secret Band until today. Thank you so much.

I can't be the only one who feels like Kurt's voice and Direction was the best DGD era

Probably not no. Personally i’ve kinda just grown to love each era for what it is and enjoyed the new stuff they’ve been putting out

Definitely not! The OP is fuckin trippin! Dude literally said only two songs on the album were any good. Wtf? He also said Kurt left the band instead of being clear he was replaced before even knowing he was no longer in the band! How do you miss that when trying to cover their history?
@mateoGdogg4 жыл бұрын
@@imorokr Facts . Happiness by the far the most experimental post hardcore album I heard in years . They had funk and jazz chords on their shit . No breakdowns . Great time for music
@Pepperbottom.4 жыл бұрын
Nope, you're not the only one. I was honestly tempted to comment something like this. Kurt era was the best in my opinion. Death Star is still my most listened to album. That and Happiness are my usual go to. Honestly though (in my opinion) everything up till IG were pretty good. I can get down to everything up until that point. IG wasn't that good except like 4 songs that I actually dig. Everything after that was super generic.. But Happiness and Death Star are my favorite and what I prefer when I go to listen to DGD.
@Hjerez173 жыл бұрын
still praying Andrew one day joins them, the guy has the voice of an angel and makes DGD somehow sound even better than they did
@hetareee_3 жыл бұрын
i feel like at this point he basically is, he’s consistently featured instrumentally and helps with vocals live and sometimes on recorded songs too, so i’m sure that there’s a reason why they’ve decided to not make him an official member. they don’t seem to worked up about it and like you said he’s doing great with them as it is so i think it’s cool either way

Yeah, I would definitely recommend it! They ended up being my most-listened to artist last year because I basically just spent the entire summer listening to them.

I generally love this sound of music, but for the longest time for any band that has a sterotypical following that I don't feel like I fit in (say Panic at the Disco, Bring Me The Horizon, Sleeping with Sirens etc.) Or anything that might appear as scene or emo I couldn't get into unless someone incidentally pushed me into it or I find one song I can't not listen to. I grew up listening to everything so it's wierd for me to notice about myself. I think what made me realize and try to change this was Linkin Parks experimentation from Minutes to Midnight on. So many people hatred and criticized including myself, but I pushed myself to listen to A Thousand Suns until I loved it. Now other then Hunting Party I love all there music (with the exception of Valentine's Day.... Just the end of it...) and I've been more willing to expand into any band or music regardless of old or new sounds, the groups that listen to it, or other people's opinions. Soooo if your as much of a fan of Linkin Park as I am maybe.. you should make a video on them.

Believe it or not, I've only ever really listened to that one song by them that everyone considers super edgy, which I'm guessing you know what I mean. It's not that I'm disinterested, but they're one of those bands for me that I've always meant to listen to, but just never gotten around to. I think once I find some free time though, I probably will.
@devonheath64775 жыл бұрын
@@hetareee_I'm not sure what song your talking about, but you definitely should. Besides the fact that they're just great, they've had a huge impact on modern rock and it would be good to explore those roots of metal. They're my #1 favorite band next to Avenged Sevenfold for hard rock.
