The Concerns of Making an Expected Sequel

I captured an unusual stage of making a video. After I had collected the footage, narrated it and had approximately arranged it all in Vegas, I was ready to view it for the first time. But I realised I had so many worries! Would it live up to the standards set by the series, and the expectations of the viewers? I quickly typed it all up, before getting on, watching, editing and finishing the video.
And what's more, it's a video for a series that has just taken off and gotten popular. This will be the second video that many people will watch and its quality will decide whether they want to watch more. I decided to preserve my thoughts at this unusual moment with this video.
It's now all done and released and you can see it here: • Medieval 2: Total Crash

if i'm quite honest, i don't really compare your videos to each other ... So far, i really enjoyed all the videos i watched from you, and that's the reason i come back. I really like the flashbacks, i don't know why, but i like them :D but that doesnt mean there should be one in every video. It seems you interpret into the comments :) I'd say, don't stress yourself to much. Nobody wants a burnt out Philip. Love ya

I think the fact that some DONT like something does not mean they don't want to see more of it. I may not like one part of a video, but seeing it gone because I said so doesn't help anyone.

Oh damn, I knew you read comments but I didn't expect to see me in the video. What a lovely surprise to wake up to. Also solid advice at the end there, For the past year Iv'e been so caught up with one upping myself every video that it sometimes causes me to over-edit and lose work to unstable project save files. You also mentioned video ideas where the individual scenes and skits are great standalone but are very loosely related and/or they don't mesh together in a way that is natural. Iv'e also had this happen, the best way to avoid this happening is to not work on the video as chunks, But rather do what you do and bounce between the game, OBS and Vegas/premiere.

Phillip, I just want to say that every single one of your videos I have got something out of. First your Hammer tutorials helped me out modding HL2 and made me aware of your CSGO videos, which then caused me to buy CSGO and use a lot of your advice. Your more comedic stuff (not saying your other stuff isn't funny, because it is) such as 2kliksphillip's S.H.I.T, Total War series, and How Will He Die? are all a great time to watch. I also really appreciate the variety of content you make, as it means that the next upload will most likely be a suprise. (and a pleasant one at that.) I look forward to your next video.

what's so good about this series is the thing you are doing where you treat a serious game in a non-serious manner. the clips of the very serious voices from the game that you pepper in are just great. focusing on the crashes was also very good and a relatable thing even if you haven't played the game before. another thing i enjoy is a thing that i see a lot of video editors on youtube do. little jokes that entertain you while you are editing and you kind of only do for you. more of that please. much respect!

Love the total war series you’re doing. I’ve never played the game but always excited to watch a new instalment. I’m glad you didn’t just repeat the flashback sequence. Don’t get me wrong I love them but it’s important to not have each video have a flashback and become samey and predictable. Mixing it up with the fake ending and cinematic sequence was top. The hardest part is coming up with original sequences to insert into the video to make it different but I hope you think it’s worth it because I love it. Of course you can rehash a flashback bit in future videos but I’m glad you’re focusing on keeping them mixed. 10/10 love your work

People comparing videos to previous ones are usually too ingrained into specific expectations: they want the exact same thing, but different, and never get anything they want, because it just can't exist. I think, something that makes all of (" ", "2", "3")kliksphilips videos so special, that they nearly never seem to be the only reason for their own existence. Sometimes the videos seem to be an excuse to do something, no sane person would really do ( the "investigations" in cs go for example, but this also applies to more philosophical things). Sometimes they appear to be a vehicle to transport deeper thoughts on various things and/or to take the viewer on a journey... There is always much more, than only the video. If you want to learn, teach!

But watching your total war series got me back into the games a lot, currently I'm playing attila which is okay but I'm not a big fan of the 3 city's in a provence, my favourite has to be shogun 2 with a special mention to napoleon (which you should play and kick the French in). Philip, you put way too much effort into these videos. the attention to all these little details, the stories you make up and how it all works as a story inside the game alongside with the journey of you creating these experiences. all of that with long forgotten franchises, reaching such a small audience. hell, I couldn't care less about most of your pointless videos. and yet I keep going back. I feel happy whenever I see something new of yours appear. it's good to know that there are still people out there who make content not to reach the greatest ammount of people but to concentrate in one very specific thing and getting the fullest out of it. you are a true artist and I am very thankful for all these hours you spend trying to reach perfection. you may never reach it, but especially in your case, the journey is more important than the destination.

In all the previous Total War videos of yours I commented something along the line " cant wait for your medieval 2 video since its my most favorite game". While I wasn't disappointed with it, the video is in a weird place. You tried to make it similar to the others of the same series with the music, intro, and so on while the game (unfortunately or not) became something completely different. It was all about Rufus and his struggle to win a match instead of conquering the french kingdom. Afterall I still enjoyed it and love the additional Making Of's of those. love ya! I've said it before, but I enjoy your self-evaluation Philip. It's something I don't think a lot of content creators do even in private. It feels good to get inside your head and understand the decisions your making. I don't really see this series as being like Going Low despite the similar music cues and the callbacks. It's limited, for one. You're going to run out of games soon enough. Therefore it's best when you mix it up. I liked the flashback because it was a reference but no way would I want that as a motif. I'd have to watch the video again but my only criticism was that it felt a little long. I like how you diversified the effects and reactions of the crashes and I didn't feel bored despite the repetitiveness of it.

I like how you set yourself a goal. I don't care if it's to bring prosperity to Japan or destroy France, it feels like I'm having part on your adventure. It's hard to put in words, but I imagine it as if you were the hero who goes through all the boring and tedious stuff to kill a dragon and after that, you tell me (a simple peasant in town) about your adventure. Even though I don't know you in reality, I've been watching you since I was a kid and I feel like I was watching you while you were still a kid as well. I've watched you have to deal with a lot of turmoil with you being as honest as you are, and it's taught me so much and I honestly couldn't be more thankful for it. You and your KZfaq videos have helped me become the person I want to be, and that's incredibly invaluable to me. I just wanted to let you know you're still kicking butt in case people haven't been telling you it enough, and that you are probably my favorite personal heroes and I draw a lot of inspiration from you.

You don't have to worry about stepping it up each episode of a series. Just keep it as same level as previous. People tune in for a series to have something to exspect like for example weekly

As other people have said I personally don't compare your videos to the other in the series, if it's a good video I'm happy with that and so far all of them have been.

I like Philips videos because he puts effort into them and mainly makes them because he wants to and is always about interesting topics or ideas but even more than that he's super transparent with his thought and processes and that makes him and everything he does interesting I also like his little memes he puts in Love you Philip ❤

Your videos.are great, you strike a great balance of new and familiar, their will always be idiots who can't accept someone else's work (however good it is) because they think (rightly or more usually wrongly) that they can do better. Keep up the good work!
